It is the early morning of February 24, 2022. Russian forces in the Belgorod region that for months were amassing on the Ukrainian border under the cover of military exercises are now ready to fulfill their true mission. Three Russian Armies, 1st Guards Tank, 20s Guards Combined Arms, and 6th Combined Arms plan to launch a land attack on one of the key Ukrainian cities. In total, they have around 20000 men with hundreds of tanks and armored vehicles, backed up with rocket and conventional artillery. Their target is the second largest city in Ukraine, Kharkiv. Major industrial, economic, and cultural center with a pre-war population of 1.5 million people. After the capital Kyiv, it has the second-largest number of military-related enterprises such as tank and armored vehicle factories as well as suppliers of a variety of military aviation components. Due to the city’s significance for Ukraine and its location, disguised Russian forces with separatists tried to seize control over the city in 2014 as they did in Luhansk and Donetsk but were defeated by civilians and Ukrainian security forces. Therefore, in the 2022 Russian military campaign, Kharkiv became one of the priority targets for what seemed to be a quick and easy military operation.

I was a legionnaire assigned under the 92nd Mechanized. Good warriors. I fought alongside them during the Kharkiv Counter Offensive in August-September of '22. I was in Kyiv during the battle of Kharkiv, but from what I have heard from my Ukrainian brothers in the 92nd and 93rd, this video is very accurate of the order of battle. Very good, keep up the good work!

@@NoSaysJo Given the balance of power, it is naive to think that the result is now being measured by territories. It was initially obvious that a quick break was impossible. Now the main thing is the ratio of losses and how many reserves the opponents bring into battle. When attacking fortifications, Ukraine manages to achieve a loss ratio close to 1 to 1, without air support this is an excellent result. And most importantly, the Russians regularly use reserves, while Ukraine does not. Fighting with negligible results but significant losses will continue for a long time, but in this state of affairs the Russians will not have enough trained and mobile reserves left and the front will be broken. And only then will we see rapid movement, many prisoners and trophies. Our officials have warned you that we need long-range weapons, ballistic missiles and jets. It is absolutely logical that having only armored vehicles and artillery, we are forced to act as in WW2. Sorry, war has its own rules, we cannot make a miracle and show a beautiful show to Western viewers. We are forced to use what we have. The fact that we survived the first months without any significant help is a miracle in itself. We will win, it depends on you only at what cost. And the problems will not end there, it will be necessary to make decisions about what to do with Russia and how to restore Ukraine. Your countries will spend much more money on this than they are spending on the war now. Investing in our army now will save you more resources later. Believe me, you don't want to Ukraine turn into Iraq. A million veterans must be integrated into civilian life. All these people will be able to go to any NATO country without any problems. You will be able to meet them personally. Especially if they can't find work in Ukraine. If they will disappointed and offended by the result of the war, it will be a disaster for all of us. Our warriors must get the victory they deserve.
@rky84
@rky84 Год назад
@@NoSaysJo If you look Oryx (losses are almost 1 to 1, and in artillery, Ukraine's losses are many times less despite the fact that ukrainians are attacking) and, in general, everything is not that bad. I am Russian, but I am against the war and it seems to me that only the "cold" part of the counteroffensive is going on now. Destruction of artillery , large ammo depots . Even Russian military correspondents (who are not afraid of criticism from Z-people) confirm that this is the tactics of UA armed forces "before the storm": clear minefields to the first line of defense, find weak points and destroy the logistics of the Russian army, depriving them of ammunition and equipment, capturing highground and THEN strike. There was something similar with Kherson. Ukrainians also suffered heavy losses at first, and then they slightly changed tactics and began to take out logistics

@TheWarArchive
@TheWarArchive Год назад
Certainly, more planes were shot down, but I honestly had trouble finding more footage to prove that. Don't want to share something that is not 100% verified. The lack of footage is explained by the fact that many planes crashed in the fields, so even if photos exist, it's almost impossible to geolocate them and therefore show them in animation.

I lived at the North Saltivka, the most north-eastern part of the city. After failed infintration attempts they decided to terrorize the city with MLRS systems, heavy shellings of residential building started since 28 of feb and lasted till the mid april. I was really lucky 1st of march to not leave apartments 5 seconds before meeting with grad missile hitting kindergarden yard in front of me, house 90deg angled to mine and some kiosks over the street and mentioned house. Now there is a lot of speculations about cluster ammunition, well russians used it from the very first week and there's nothing to speak about, almsot all windows are damaged with small shreds hit from above, any questions? Not counting civilians who were dead to "where we hit was the military object" army.

I love how russia continues to insist it never intended to occupy Ukranian cities it failed to take like kyiv, despite sending in riot cops there just like they did in kharkiv as you included in this video. Why send riot cops to cities like kharkiv and kyiv if you aren't trying to occupy them? weird how they thought to bring riot equipment despite their propaganda saying they would be welcomed, It kinda reminds me of the falklands war, where argie soldiers were promised the civilian population would be spanish speaking and welcome them as liberators, instead they were english speaking and refused to cooperate. But the russians seem far more self aware if theyknew there would be resistance.
@danielr5343
@danielr5343 Год назад
Not that I'm defending Russia but your thinking is strategically unsound. In war, a good commander prepares for what could happen, not what they think will happen; Japanese commanders in WW2 suffered from wishful thinking and this was one of the reasons they lost.
@lordcirrhosisofliver
@lordcirrhosisofliver Год назад
@@danielr5343 I am not saying that bringing the riot gear was a bad idea. I am just saying that it proves they were planning to occupy the cities in spite of claims the russian thrust south was a feint and that it flies in the face of their propaganda. Though shoving their special police unit into the teeth of the ukranian army was very much strategically unsound.

@TheWarArchive
@TheWarArchive Год назад
They are not full armies, but rather a convenient way of representing the units involved. It's easier to say 1st Guards Tank Army instead of showing a naming 2nd Guards Motor Rifle Division, 4th Guards Tank Division, 47th Guards Tank Division, and 27th Guards Motor Rifle Brigade. By the way, Russians also use a crazy mix of Brigades and Divisions which makes it even more confusing because a Division might have a similar size to a Brigade which breaks all the rules. So, names of formations do not really mean a lot.
@neweraamerica7363
@neweraamerica7363 Год назад
Russians only used FSB Security forces in the initial invasion. As a result they kept the names of their armies even though majority of the units in those armies didn’t participate in the invasion.
@cottoncandyman8274
@cottoncandyman8274 Год назад
The US and I think most of NATO uses relatively standardized formations sizes, but Russian formation sizes, where they are standardized and just different from western ones, and oftentimes are focused on WWII era heritage with keeping the names of previously much larger formations alive. From what I can tell, squads, platoons, companies, battalions, brigades, and to a degree divisions are approximately the same size as western ones, but corps, armies, and army groups vary massively from western ones, and even within Russia. It's also important to note that as the war goes on, there are more instances of understrength units that are smaller than you might expect by the name.

They were defeated by the 93rd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces! High-ranking officers of the Russian Federation were taken prisoner: battalion commanders and deputy commanders. colonel. My ex-girlfriend's father was one of the SOBR commanders sent to Kharkiv to suppress possible protests. On many videos with burning columns near the city, you can see their avtozak buses among other vehicles. These units had only pistols and police batons, shields and helmets for protection and food for the day. As she told me, they were sent practically in the wake of the army because they really believed that their tank columns would only face real resistance when approaching Poltava. For participation in the Kharkiv operation, all Russian police officers were to receive from 300 thousand to a million rubles, depending on their rank, and they were also promised that after the referendum they would be given housing in the city, or monetary compensation. Of the four hundred, only twenty people made it to the Russian border, and my ex's family buried their father only in September, when his body was exhumed and handed over to the Russians during the exchange of prisoners and the dead.

@TheWarArchive
@TheWarArchive Год назад
In general, yes, but there are a lot of complications to that. First of all, they are usually portrayed as an anti-democratic, far-right paramilitary group. This is mostly false, but such a representation is usually pushed by pro-Russian people who use it as an excuse for war. Freikorps is indeed a right-wing paramilitary group, but I would not call it entirely far-right. As well, they obviously are not against democracy and freedom, actually quite the opposite. They are ready to die for these values, as we can see in this video. The symbols that they are using at some point were utilized by Nazis, but I do not think that's a big deal. After all, these symbols are initially based on gothic runes, Nazis did not invent them. The use of these symbols is a way to connect to the origins of Western civilization, which Freikorps admire. Even if you look up their official website, you will not see any far-right propaganda.

Entonces, el dizque Segundo Ejército del mundo no pudo conquistar una ciudad ucraniana situada a 30 km de Rusia. La razón es que es un ejército incompetente. Mucha brutalidad, poca inteligencia.

Hey man! Amazing videos! You’ll be an operations room, kings and generals, armchair historian, montemayor, or kings and generals in no time! I would be careful about the video you use because RU-vid has gotten crazy about monetization these days with anytime remotely or possibly, maybe interpreted as war/violence. That’s if you care. Hopefully you get a sponsor or Patreon soon because doing all of this by yourself is a TON of work. Keep it up man, it’s awesome you get comments about your accuracy from the people that fought in these places in every video is amazingly awesome. Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!

Thanks! RU-vid indeed reminds me of a Matrix movie with all those strict algorithms doing weird things. Of course, due to RU-vid rules, I am careful with what footage to include and what to leave out. I am currently considering Patreon or something like that to be able to provide all the footage and be more independent from RU-vid monetization. But for now, enjoy my videos here!

Hello! I am a Kharkiv resident. Thanks for objective overview of the first war days. I would like to add that a very big role this day played local veterans and other volunteers. But Kharkiv city major, local secret service and police were passive these days. And finally: Please, realise that putin's regime it is danger for other countries and stability in the world.
