We hear a lot about famous last stands in military history, for example the legendary last stands of the 300 Spartans at the Battle of Thermopylae and the 200 Texans at the Battle of the Alamo. However, in the West at least, we don’t hear much about the story of the Battle of Saragarhi, in present day Pakistan, where 21 Sikh Indian soldiers of the British Indian army fought a last stand against more than 10,000 Pashtun Afghan tribesmen. Theirs is indeed a remarkable story of hopeless bravery in the same cast as Leonidas’ Spartans - unbelievably brave young men fighting to the death against overwhelming odds.

ULYSSES FILES is a RU-vid channel dedicated to showcasing primarily military history content (plus certain other topics) in short documentary form, featuring interesting and quirky characters and stories from the late 19th Century on through the 1st and 2nd World Wars to the present.
It is not always possible to find 100% accurate footage to illustrate these cinematic short films, but where possible ODYSSEUS FILES strives to keep it authentic. Background music will always attempt to provide appropriate emotional mood.
Topics and content are thoroughly researched and portrayed in their historical context for both educational and entertainment purposes. We try our best to be accurate in terms of the data in our short films, but are not experts in all areas and are always learning new things, so if we get something wrong - please feel free to contact us. Also if you have an idea you believe may fit the scope of our channel - again - do not hesitate to let us know.

Another amazing last stand you should cover is the Battle of Sirijap involving a platoon of C Company, 1/8th Gurkha Rifles under the leadership of Major Dhan Singh Thapa in the 1962 Sino-Indian War. After their radio was damaged by enemy artillery, the Gurkhas repelled two enemy assaults, despite enemy artillery depleting their ranks. When the Chinese attacked a third time with tanks, Major Thapa found himself the literal last man standing. Out of ammo, he drew his Gurkha knife and charged over the parapet into the oncoming Chinese infantry, hacking, slashing, stabbing and chopping everything in his path. Believed death, he was posthumously awarded the Paras Vir Chakra, the Indian PVC only for it to emerge that he’d been taken prisoner, becoming the first soldier to receive the PVC posthumously and live. Source for this is The Gurkhas: Special Forces by Chris Bellamy.

Because you produced such an excellent documentary, you earned yourself a new subscriber! Speaking of last stands, one particularly interesting engagement was the Battle of the Imjin River during the Korean War. Where soldiers from the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment were surrounded by a significantly larger Chinese force. The Glosters fought tenaciously and allowed a large portion of UN forces to retreat across the Imjin River and exhausted the Chinese Spring Offensive. Thanks for reading!

10 thousand Muskims vs 21 Sikh isnt a fair fight. . .If it had been 20 thousand Muslims vs 21 Sikh it would've been more of a fair fight. The Sikh Soldier is a Lion.

I saw from one of your other video's that Col Biddle trained Gene Tunney in Marine boxing, i was wondering does anyone know if since Francois D'eliscu was the equivalent trainer for the Army, that would mean rocky's basic training taught him those same methods right? Or maybe he even met D'eliscu and trained him personally? That would be a great find.
