The HR-V had higher interior quality, but the Corolla Cross’ seats were much more comfortable. Which is more important to you? Tell us what you think in the comments below!
Both good cars for that segment. Not a lot between them to be honest. If I were shopping it'd probably come down to my feeling about the dealership and what they offered as the out the door price. I'd just add that if I found the seats to be as uncomfortable as you suggest that'd probably be a dealbreaker.
The presenter's careful balance in being 'humorous without being a desperate clown' and 'informative without verging on boredom' is great and refreshing. Especially while bearing in mind she is new. For once, I did manage to listen to a mainstream car-journalist till the end.
She definitely has a cool vibe to her. Nice to have a different energy to the reviews. Maybe a little to much hand and arm movement, but overall loved her video.
We were just in this market for a small crossover for my wife to haul our 2 large dogs around. We tested the Cross, Hrv, Seltos Renegade and Kona. My wife loved the Hrv as soon as she drove it. It just seemed to be the nicest of the group and had the best ride. I don't think our dogs will miss the rear armrest or cupholders...
This was such an awesome comparison. Very entertaining and still very informative (I've seen other vids that have been very hit or miss). I'm gonna look for a video of the Kia Seltos and I hope Lauren reviewed it as it would be great have her take on it. If not it would be nice to have her opinion of it in comparison to these two if she's driven one, in the future. Amazing comparison review, thanks Lauren!
Wow. I must say, I really enjoyed your presentation. Awesome. You have so much personality. I can't wait to see more of your videos. You are now, one of my favorites hands down.
She is trying really, really hard not to say the HR-V is slow and the engine sounds like a tractor motor while getting bad gas mileage (the CR-V is bigger but gets better mileage). Not sure what Honda was thinking coming out with a car that is notably worse than the CR-V but costs nearly as much.
The same thing that Nissan was thinking when they launched that slow selling Rouge Sport when the Rogue gets significantly better gas milage, bigger and I guess better 🥴
@@AyoBrownKid The Nissan story is actually pretty funny. The rogue sport is actually based off of the European QashQai but they had to modify it so much to make it compatible with US press standards that they consider it structurally almost a different vehicle. I think the rogue sport is actually a pretty well-rounded vehicle as far as its cabin and exterior goes. It's just unfortunate that jatco transmissions are so questionable
Loving Lauren, her personality elevates this review to such a relatable and personal level. Truly Great and can't wait to see Lauren again in future reviews.
@@gigi9467 neither of the cars in this video are not something serious ‘car guys’ would be interested in. Besides there’s many other channels such as savagegeese and sarah-n-tuned for that. It’s always good to have options and different perspectives. You just seem like you don’t like change.
@@edmundscars I really did. Lauren made a review of cars in one of the most mundane, commoditized, and mainstream segments actually relatable and appealing. She approached these two Compact Sport Utilities in a style that spoke to the every day consumer, which made her hugely relatable and personable. Plus, it is so nice to see a Woman's perspective and needs being put front and center for Car Reviews. It's not all about horsepower figures and 0-60 Times. Plus, women can be just as big a "petrol head" as any guy. I know, working in the Automotive Industry for over 10 Years now, I've worked with and for some incredible women who have a passion for Cars that put many to shame. It is great to see it recognized that women have tremendous buying power and influence when it comes to Car Shopping; whether buying for themselves, or as part of a couple or larger family unit. With all this said, I look forward to seeing what Lauren can do as she expands her presence as a part of the Edmunds Cars team.
Excellent comparison review. You presented both cars exceptionally well. The lag during acceleration is a characteristic of the CVT transmission. I think both cars are equally matched as far as size and technology . I think the as tested price will put the Toyota in the winner spot.
In overseas markets Honda seems to offer a bit more in the HRV (sold as the ZRV). I like the way Ms McCay presented this. Informative and lighthearted at the same time.
Never seen Lauren before, but she's a breath of fresh air! And she did a pretty comprehensive comparison between the two covering aspects I haven't seen in comparisons of these two SUVs by other youtubers like how the Corolla Cross has a more accurate steering and more comfortable seats, for example, which are important to me. Interesting that she found the Corolla Cross slower being that it's more powerful and lighter; maybe the calibration of the CVT has something to do with it. Against the clock, however, I think the difference in acceleration would be negligible. Thanks for the informative and entertaining comparison; I don't need yet another automotive youtuber in my subscriptions, but I subbed just because of Lauren :)
I am glad she stated honestly how horrible the seats are. I sat in a HRV, and from the moment I sat in the car, I was horrified how hard the seats are. I would not even test drive it. I was so surprised as the car looks adorable
I don't see any comments about THE ACTUAL SUBJECT of the video, but rather of the presenter. Yeah, Elephant knuckles has good flow and is pretty, but please stop simping people.
First in my area to get the HR-V top level. It's really all about the driver and front passenger. If you're in the back seat--sorry bout your luck rubber duck! Being a self-centered driver, it checks all my needs. BTW, loved the vid.
Wonderful video! Many car demos on YT but the presentation here was entertaining yet comprehensive & informative without too much spec rambling. That said, I'm torn between the two cars. I like the taller stature/ground clearance of the Cross especially with the XLE's larger wheels (I hate scrapping the front bumper or splash guard when parking), and also the rear vents, rear USB ports, and arm rest would be the winning point if I ever had backseat drivers except I don't and I don't intend to ever. For me though, I really like Honda's interior design. Sure, I've seen nicer ones, Genesis, BMW, Tesla, maybe even the new Hyundai to some, but I like this more reserved look. Its a little utility meets a little luxury. Nothing gaudy . Minimalist approach. Just my cup of tea. Plus green is my favorite color... Just gotta try out those seats!
i have the corolla cross with 2.0 engine. i use extreme driving style to get 5.0L/100km, which is 47 MPG. i never go over 100km/h, seldom let the engine go over 2500rpm when accelerating and hyper mill when ever possible. so l smile when i see the gas pump, and its a different kind of fun to squeeze for MPG.
I test drove both and went with the Honda EXL. I love my new car. The Toyota was a little too boxy for me but still a good choice for someone looking for that style. LAUREN, love her!!!! I was so happy to see a woman presenter. Great Job!!!
She’s great! I hope to see her more. I truly love the new face of the Honda. It’s clearly the better choice. Toyota should have launched this with a SE & XSE trim, it’s carried the Camry sales by over 50%, come on Toyota y’all know better.
I live in Colorado Springs and at over 6,000ft elevation the new HR-V seemed dangerously slow when I tested on highway merging, in city driving and mountain roads. I wish Honda would offer the 1.5l turbo or better yet a hybrid powertrain so the electric motors could help it with instant tq. I will be testing the Corolla Cross next but I doubt it will be much better. With the exception of the electric motors in the hybrid giving it a much needed boost.
Centre arm rest prevents seats laying flat, I prefer firm seats because if your heavy and over time that sponge is going to deform just my my 03 Lexus GX (Toyota Prado)
Honestly I've tested drove both vehicles but the 2023 hr-v is sexier lookin. Corolla Cross is pretty but the interior is subpar. Either way they both have reliability, stability, and low maintenance cost which you can't go wrong.
The lack of passenger amenities in the rear is a huge misstep in my opinion. You're absolutely right, it's those rear seat passengers (my kids, for example) that are going to want a way to keep their phones or tablets charged on a road trip and not having that as even an option on the highest trim level is odd. Same goes for the lack of a center console.
Both of these were in my list for a b segment suv, but after a lot of consideration I settled with a peugeot 2008 because it's just a lot better experience in sitting in one and I don't like cvt transmission they're too laggy.
I agree with the winner.... But the you add the Corolla Cross Hybrid, the things change! The hybrid version is more fun and powerful + more reliable and fuel efficient
The thing that annoys me is Kia solved this issue in the spectra quite well. They simply added a hook to hang the purse on. An idea so elegant and effective, I don't know why it's not copied everywhere, especially in either of these cars.
The hrv’s front end looks better but the side profile of the Corolla cross looks better to me. You don’t buy these cars for performance.,but the Corolla cross is getting a hybrid and maybe Honda should slap in there 1.5 turbo.
I purchased the Corolla Cross XLE and I totally agree with her. Test drive it before you buy it. I honestly would not have purchased it if I would have test drove it. The vehicle is really cute but the engine SUCKS. There is a real LAG, it has no get up and go about it. And when in cruise control its even worse. It scared me the 1st time I had it in cruise control and it accelerated, felt like it stomped the gas pedal to the floor then took forever to get the speed back up. And going up hills is HORRIBLE, I actually down shift to get up hills which is horrible since I live in a very hilly area. According to the dashboard im getting 28.7 mpg but im still on the fence about that. Overall the look is great but the engine has a LOT to improve on. Unfortunately I wasn't able to test drive this vehicle because there were none at the dealership, then I pre-ordered it on February 12th and didn't get it until July 25th even though I live 150 miles from the manufacturer. I am not a Toyota fan and based on this vehicle I will never buy another one.
If the seats are better than HRV, I would say Corolla Cross. Need for speed, the go hybrid. Also consider Subaru CrossTrek 2.0 Premium -- nice. And symmetrical AWD
Lauren, thanks for pointing out the uncomfortable seats in the HRV. that's a deal killer right there. if you're going to redesign, then make it more thoughtful, Honda.
Great presentation and I'm for women in car culture who actually are car peeps instead of models. She's pretty and smart, great combo 💪🏾. As for the vid, not my cup of tea yet great presentation. However, I enjoy all cars and I learned which is the important part. Great job. Keep it up and yes, I've subbed to the channel.
This isn’t a head to head review. This is why I like the Toyota cross spoilers (two USBs in the back). The entire video has the other HRV in the background I don’t have a horse in this race but it was obvious from this video that I might have stumbled on to a Toyota commercial. I think Toyota makes great cars and trucks. But I expect an unbiased video from a Edmonds. This is what I usually see in those car sales people videos on why you should buy the car they are selling.
@@namvet1968 I like the CR-V. The seats are comfortable and the ride quality is very good. Best to spend the extra money and buy the CR-V over the HR-V. The CR-V is a car that you won't grow tired of.
I just drove a HRV Sport and its seats were not bad to me at 52. Acceleration ... well these cars are not made for that. Just ordered a HRV EXL for my son
It would be more informative to say that the HRV is actually called ZRV everywhere else in the world. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the first gen HRV. The second generation of that original HRV is a totally different car, but it skipped the US market. That’s why the US HRV feels liken a totally different car. Because it is. It’s a C segment car, the first one is a B segment.
