LOL - I saw that Piscifun Alijoz pop-up at the very end of the video...that was too funny!!! Seriously though, that Alijoz is truly a great reel!!!

LOL, glad someone caught it. I own two of the Alijoz 300 8.1 that I got as beaters. Honestly, they're holding up real well considering the way I treat them.

lol. I have the 300. It’s my beater and somehow it still take a beating. Have to admit I’m tempted on a 400 for the price, just too much tackle at the moment

Hey! So if you had to buy one, would you get the Lexa TW, lexa 500, or tranx 500? I’m leaning towards the Daiwa reels as I prefer the left-handed review, but I’ve heard so many negative things about Daiwa reel durability. I have a tranx and prorex, but I’ve gone through 2 tranx 401s HGs in 3 year. Thanks again for the detailed review.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 Месяц назад
All depends what you’re targeting. Tranx500 would be the proper baitcaster to chase 30lb and up. Lexa HD, I’ve owned all iterations and it does really well for salt. I’m still putting more time in the water for the ProRex, but I’m liking it being a few ounces lighter than the HD. You have the Prorex, so no need for a TW. Did you send the Tranx in for service? I’ve seen dried up salt built up that prevents lots of moving parts, but could still be cleaned out. Personally I kept my Tranx500, ProRex, LexaHD, and have a couple Alijos300. They all serve different purposes for different trips.

@@Seastheday88 thanks for getting back to me! I’m contemplating buying another reel as a main reel for larger baits for musky and pike. The baits definitely give the reels a pounding as the baits being thrown are up to 1.5 lbs. I’m just looking for something consistent without the durability concerns. I haven’t sent the tranx in yet as Turnaround time takes months and our fishing season is already limited in the north woods.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 Месяц назад
@@briannguyen7391 of course! Awesome, always wanted to try musky and pike, def strenuous on the reels seeing the vids of how anglers fish them. For all day casting, lighter the better considering your casting lure sizes. The Tranx400 is still a really nice compact size. The ProRex if you’re leaning towards Daiwa. Just need to find a local tech that can service them considering both Shimano and Daiwa service centers are based in California.

Active Level Wind (level wind engaged when the reel is in free spool) is a liability, not a feature, in my opinion.
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 2 месяца назад
I agree with that. It’s nice to have for those who fish occasionally. But does add another component to add risk. Seen one video of the Komodo under pressure then lost its level wind while fighting a fish.

So what should I be getting? I have a tranx 400hg, tranx 500 hg and pg, Lexa 400 tws but should I get the lexa 500 too?
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 5 месяцев назад
That's going to be a personal opinion. I have the Lexa 500 in my hands but too soon for me to decide what's the verdict. I'm going to test it this season but I think I'll be able to cast for longer duration with it as it'll be a bit more comfortable in the hands with the lower height profile. But the Tranx 500 series will still be the preferred choice when casting into bigger grade. Part 3 will be an overview of the Lexa 500 and Tranx 500, stay tuned.

Hey bro, I'm in the market for a 300-400 size bait caster to add to my surf fishing set up. I plan do do some jigging for halibut... Which of these reels would you reccomend to use in the surf and would be able to handle the saltwater?
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 3 месяца назад
For surf. 300 is perfect. I’m honestly using an Piscifun Alijos 300 because I was afraid of sand on the nicer reels. Surprisingly still working couple years later with no service. Load it with 40lb braid. If you do decide to go for the nicer brands, Lexa, Shimano or Okuma shines. Personally like the Lexa HD series the most in those sizes

@@Seastheday88 I noticed you didn't mention the Penn fathom baitcaster... Do you not reccomend that one for the surf? Especially if it's going to be getting wet alot?

@@jasper1352 I really like Penn for all their other reels. Fathom 2speed, star drags, International, Torque, Slammer, which I own. I just wasn’t a fan of that baitcaster lol

@@Seastheday88 lol I have the casting special, the fathom 2 and the spinfisher liveliner which I think are all great reels. Was hoping I could complete the set with a baitcaster.

@Seastheday88 3 месяца назад
@@jasper1352 it’s a fine reel. I just find the other brands are more refined. The price is very similar, thus go with the better options. I’ve been hunting for a casting special. Read you can switch the bigger knob for the smaller ones off Fathom 12 or 15sd

My Lexa 300/HDs has held up for over 4 years of striper fishing in Cali Delta. I like the gear on the Penn. Handle knob is small. What’s the reason behind the tracking of the worm gear/Line lay on the Okuma and Penn? Anyone
@Seastheday88
@Seastheday88 5 месяцев назад
The 300hd is underrated, it’s perfect in size and still so much power. The tracking helps alleviate line angle on a hookup. And the concept of it should aid during casts like a TW system. I did have my line snap on me twice before on the Komodo. But could’ve been my error. Meanwhile, have had that problem with my Tranx or LexaHD when casting

I found that the komodo is great for fishing in general but if you’re hammering fish constantly it won’t last as long as a tranx
