That's why I love Alex. He is not about disliking songs. He's about respect and find the links between the lyrics and the instruments. If every single songs he said "No, I don't like this" would you think he will have a solid community?
Both Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold covered Wish You Were Here. Since Alex reacted to the Pink Floyd original, these two would be a great battle imho. A comparison of three, anyone agree?

Personally, I didn't enjoy Amaranthe's cover of Sabaton's song. A little edit: Alvin York went into WW1 as a pacifist Christian. He refused to fight up until that machine gun nest killed his best friend. Then, he just started shooting.
I have been fan of Amaranthe for a a while, just recently got into Sabaton thanks to looking at some of your old vids. Sabaton's version is better, just has more emotion. Probably because they wrote the song and that type of story is what they do. But they are both incredible.
No the most decorated soldier is Audie Murphy and Sabaton got a song about him too named To Hell and Back the lyrics are made from poems murphy himself wrote about the war it´s really good.
They ran out of american medals for Audie Murphey so they had to give him some french ones. I dont remember how accurate that is but I do know they ran out of american awards for him.

I too saw the Amaranthe version first. And sometimes when I listen to this version I hear the singers from Amarathe in the background. But I like this version better. It's clearer and stronger. PS, try Sabaton's "Flying Hussars"

There's a live performance where the three singers from Amaranthe sing the song with Sabaton and then Sabaton's lead singer comes out for the last verse. It's frickin' epic.

Well technically since you asked for the best 'cover' it was Amaranthe as Sabaton created the song I agree with you both absolutely are fire for different reasons. Sabaton crushes it, Amaranthe does the song proud - leave it there.

dude you gotta gets some Dir En Grey in here. Pretty much any live performance is amazing. It's one of those bands that you experience rather than just listen to. Kyo the lead singer has an amazing vocal range. One of my favorite J-rock bands!

The best version is live from Oslo this year where Amaranthe and Sabaton did it together as a final send off for their joint Europe tour. There are crowd videos from that performance on youtube.
Got to see them last year and it was so awesome. It was a small venue, not more than 700 people but some people in the balcony said that when everyone started jumping they could feel it up there.
This was how i became a Sabaton fan. I have been a fan of Amaranthe since the Nexus came out, so when they made a new single i january i had to hear it, and then i had to try the original, and now i have bought the 5 most recent albums. And i agree i can't choose either.
I love both versions, but even though Sabaton is like my most played band and the banbd I've seen live more times than anyone else, I have to say I prefer AMaranthes cover on this one, simply because its more of a headbanger!

I love this song from both bands but Amaranthe, to me, edges out Sabaton’s. I listen to it more often and enjoy it just a little more than Sabaton. And you need some more Amaranthe! You have it right with the Sophie's Choice reference. I heard the Amaranthe version first... That's how I discovered Sabaton. I love both versions and I honestly can't answer who did it best.

First... I’m a fan of both Sabaton and Amaranthe so I feel you on the decision. I’ve got to give this one to Sabaton though. The power they provide to it and the story can only be told this way.
If you haven't seen it, Sabaton has a second YT channel called Sabaton History where they go into the historical background of their songs, as well as the process of writing the song. And this Sabaton is the original version of this one.
Why chose one? Enjoy both. Both of them did a great job. And nice story of the Cover version: Amaranthe was the support for Sabatons Tour - during this tour they wrote the cover version. And at some gigs they perform the song together!
