Your video is competent without being dry - you match content that has actual substance (practical information someone having to decide needs) with a very charming delivery and I can't applaud that enough, when most only succeed in one, but not the other.
Now this is a proper lens demo/review! Really nice the way you gave us the live view view and video AF samples. It’s so helpful and necessary to properly show what a lens can do on a modern mirrorless cam. It also helps that you’re actually a talented photographer showing off quality work as you create it instead of rambling on about specs like so many other channels. Awesome job. :)
I’ve got the 135mm and was thinking of trading it in for the 105mm. 135 is beautiful but I also have a zeiss 55 if I want to close the distance. But after seeing that their wasn’t a major diff in quality, maybe I’ll save that $ and keep the 135.
Very great video. I am considering 105 as 135 is really too far away for full body shot and the face is more flatten. 85 is not good for full body shot.
Hey I know this is a old video but I have a Z7 and I’m in the market for a 105 1.4. I’m interested in the sigma version and the Nikon version and was wondering what your take is on the two? Price doesn’t concern me n I’m more concerned about AF accuracy and image quality
2 years later and I’m still watching this video. I can’t decide !!!! 😂 I have the 85 1.8 s lens so I feel like I don’t need the 105 but the 135 makes you stand so far away....I feel like that may make my models/clients not feel as connected to me. Maaaan I’m torn
Hahaha. I know how you feel. I think the 105 is a happy medium. It gives you a bit more compression without making you stand so far away and that 1.4 aperture gives a very nice shallow DOF.

Hey, thanks for this great comparison and hints what to choose depending on the circumstances. In deed, both prime lenses are great regarding DoF and open aperture. I think I'll go for the 105 also it's a bit heavier and contrast is bad good in direct sunlight / lens flares. I think this can be better handled than to be too far away from the model. So I share your opinion. Thanks again for the little kick to the right direction which one better fits to me.
If I would buy one, it's the 105. I genuinely love how compressed the 135 makes the images look for portraits, but the distance and aperture for the Bokeh aren't the best out there.
MANNN. I COMPLETELY MISSED THIS VIDEO!! I thought I saw them all This girl is DOPE!! She has that dopeness that creeps up on you. Her posing is NICE. I saw that you barely had to direct her.
The 105 and 85 are swappable in my opinion. Meaning if you have the 85mm then the 105mm is not that big of a deal. It’s more of an upgrade where as is you have the 85mm and then jump to the 135mm then you are actually giving the image a truly different look. It really about how tight and compressed you want your shots to be. The longer the focal length the tighter the image. So it’s more of a stylistic approach when choosing between them.
@@Photomeike Thanks for reply and explanation. For now enjoying 85 1.4 on Z6(just came last week). Much easier to get sharp shots wide open than on D750. No regrets for buying Z6 what so ever.
135mm for me..i have the 85mm and i just had a surgery on my right elbow..so the heavier 105mm wont be my thing now :( thanks for this comparison helped me in choosing.
@@Photomeike a quick question, if you don't mind, I remember you had some reservations in one of your past videos testing the 135mm art lens indoors (in a photo-video store if I remember correctly) on how effective the face & eye AF detect was with 3rd party lenses. Was this the case here as well? Did 135mm lens perform worse than native Z lenses? Thanks again!
@@patryk2700 for the most part it performed very well. The time you are talking about was when I was testing video AF in the camera store and the lens lost focus and had a hard time getting back into focus. But I could have easily resolved that issue had I intervened in the test. But the purpose was to see how well the Nikon Video AF worked with third party lenses. There have been several firmware updates since I last did the test so I would assume that the camera would perform better if I tried the video AF test again. But that was just about video AF. I’ve had no issues regarding photography with the Sigma lenses.
Both lenses are great, I wish I was in the states so I could have the chance to rent and test them. I might buy the Sigma 135mm f/1.8 sony but I am not sure yet as I am thinking about the 18-105mm f4...
great video and fantastic model, not much direction required there. Lens choice I think 105mm as you can engage better with your model during a shoot but bokeh difference is minimal
When you use the atomos ninja v on your z6 in photo mode. If you have image review turned on in the z6, does the screen turn blue on the monitor for a couple seconds until the image is displayed if your recording or not recording? I have an Andycine A6 4K monitor for my z6. And when I take pictures I like to have image review on. But when I do after each picture my monitor turns blue for about three seconds until the images displayed. I was just wondering if the Atomos ninja five does the same thing? Pfff im sooo torn between selling my 70-200 2.8. Shooting at 200mm is so far away. The 105 might be too close to my 85 though. But I just love that 105mm range.
They both look amazing. It really comes down to personal preference, and I suppose also, what other lenses do you already have. Got an 85? Get the 135. Got a 55? Maybe get the 105. Etc
Year down the line and still haven't made up my mind... Currently rocking the 70-200 and Sigma 85 1.4 art. Did switch to Nikon's mirrorless system and Sigma doesn't support the Z mounts yet. Not that comfortable with that 105 on an FTZ adapter... Plus waiting for Nikon to finally drop the 85 1.2.. Which is taking ages 😂
Bro, hope your light is alright. If you have to contact Godox I recommend brushing up on your Mandarin Chinese lol. Killer video though, I don't think either lens is for me tbh they're just too big and you need to be too far from the action, plus I rarely shoot below f2 unless its pitch black.
Me too. I loved the focal length ever since I tried the Nikon version last year. The Sigma is just as good. Cept when the subject is backlight and it’s like 50% heavier 😂
If you already have an 85mm then I would recommend the 135mm. The 105mm is a great option if you want something tighter than the 85 but don’t want to have to stand as far back as with the 135mm. I already have an 85mm so the 135 is on my list.
@@Photomeike I'm loving what sigma is doing with adapted lenses. They always seen to be sharper than the native mount lenses I've seen all around. The 135 seems amazing but like you said. The distance from the model could be cumbersome. Im waiting for the 85 1.8s to drop so I can test it. Also, I tagged you in a models page on IG that lives in your city. Hope to see you two link up.

I love the 105 for full and 3/4 lengths shot. But half body to head shots, the 135 is supppppper flattering. If u already have an 85, I’d go with the 135. If u don’t have a 85mm, 105 is the happy medium. Loveddd the headshots in the alley!
My thoughts exactly. I already have an 85 so I decided on the 135. Plus, I think it’s a perfect balance between the 105 and 200 - just the right amount of compression without going overboard.

I got 35,50 and 85 so...? 😄 The main "negative" here is actually a positive if you're street shooter so can't understand why all these videos look only at the point of "photographer-model" but not from the point of everything 🤷♂️
That little red square, you keep shooting even though it’s red. Slow down, nail focus and when it does it’ll go green. You’re losing sharpness when your clickin and it’s red

I Have canon 5d Mark 4 with sigma 105mm 1.4 lens. I tried videography and photography from this bokeh master, and I have bad experience with auto focus on this lens. Someone help me with my auto focus settings or any help or any suggestion?
Sigma lenses aren’t great with autofocus. They produce very sharp and great quality images (when in focus). But not the best when it comes to autofocus reliability. That partly why I don’t own any Sigma glass.

It depends on what lens you're using. If you're using something with a max aperture of 1.4 or 1.8 like the glass in this video, you should be good to shoot between 2.8 and 4. Of course the higher you go up, the less light your sensor is gonna receive so keep that in mind with picking your shutter speed and ISO.
