I would want a 3d printer in my work shop with a database of printable boat parts. I've been following the whole way and appreciate your efforts. Thank you!
@HeadCannonPrime

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. That spot for his workshop could easily hold a 3d printer and a spool of extra strength PETG. Just have to be sure that it stays very dry.

Where those manual fuse override fuses fit for the CZone, I'd want labelled breaker switches so there's no messing about figuring out which fuse needs to go in where in an emergency.

I don't know if I commented on it in an earlier video. One of the things that I heard was having flush mounted solar panels like the ones you have actually lead to a reduced output and shortened life, versus panels sitting in frames with a small amount of clearance underneath of them. The clearance is to facilitate airflow under the panels, which cools them. Heat is a very good way to lower your efficiency of the panels, and in doing so, shortening the life of them. I'm going to be interested in seeing how long these last. I think you're going to have a wonderful boat when you get done. I think it's well built, Seawind listens to their customers, the design is wonderful and I expect because of you and RR2, Seawind is going to end up selling a lot of these boats.

Hi Nick, outstanding boat build series, very informative. I know you almost always mention how important the bbq is for your cooking / outdoor lifestyle…..my only suggestion to improve that area of the boat would be a 30 litre Engel or Dometic drawer fridge right next door to that area. Then if you wanted to enjoy a cold drink or two whilst cooking it would be within arms reach. It is an essential part of my outdoor cooking area I am having for my diy camper / bus conversion.

I like that you have the auto pilot control at the inside helm as well as the port cockpit… but you should install one at the starboard helm… I have three helms on my boat and only two autopilot controls (B&G as well…) and always find myself running to the other station to hit standby… put the starboard helm control in now and save yourself some stress.

If you have a permanent workspace maybe consider an easily replaceable wood surface/board so when it gets all beat up you can replace with a fresh piece?

Would put a leather surface cover on the work surface. Easy on equipment and tools and cheap to replace when worn.

For the AC, do you have zones for it? Master bedroom, Workshop, kitchen/lounge. Could you set them for different temperatures. eg. cooler in the master bedroom. How about fans for the engine rooms?
@G11713
@G11713 Год назад
It looks like the solar panels are an opportunity to have solar water heating along with keeping the panels cool and therefore more efficient by piping some fresh water lines beneath them.

Suggest a 3 axis vice rather than a traditional one. Also make sure the mounting structure is well reinforced to withstand the high pulling, bending, etc, forces you will inevitably be using to work on projects. Another consideration is oil, grease, or other fluids that might smear or be spilled. Will need a no adsorrbing stain resistant material or surface treatment.
@jackblah5842
@jackblah5842 Год назад
I agree with all of this, to do this I think you forget about the sleeping pad and have a real dedicated shop. I get that it is kind of cool to fold the shop out of sight but I'd go with a door or sash and go full on shop.

Looks great. I toured your hull (I feel like a peeping tom) end of March; saw how they they tore up the steps to the owner's bed. (In this video about 4:50) The new configuration looks great. I think I can understand how the narrow steps were designed, not a mistake, just one of those things that only when you finally see it you know it would be difficult to live with and how it should be. (Every boat has these, if you can fix them life aboard feels smoother.) It's really terrific that Seawind went the extra mile tearing out the cabinetry and redesigning them. Seeing how much had to be removed; it was no small task. Well done. Separate autopilot control inside is a good option. A few times while on watch inside, I wanted to change the scale of the chart on the monitor, I spun the dial...and the autopilot changed the course by some random and not small amount. Autopilot also takes up monitor chart space. One of the reasons I was zooming in and out was to see if there were any large ships hiding behind the autopilot subscreen. Snake lights are terrific. It's amazing how it's taken so long for these to become 'normal.' I know a designer who 40 years ago had to repurpose snake lights made for machine shop tools (drill press. They'd been on shop tools for probably 100 years.) Airlines had this figured for much longer (Last time I looked you couldn't buy them.) Solar capcity is great. We had a lot of multiple overcast days where about half your capacity of panels just couldn't keep up. What would've helped would've been a 3rd battery bank. All electric galley - very smart. Our head nearest the galley on the 1260 had quite a bit of soot from the propane hob and oven settling in it. Not difficult to clean up... but that soot was going in our lungs as well as all over the rest of the boat. Saloon lighting was a bit harsh at night. We cut and rolled two layers of laser jet paper to make frosted covers for the two at the fore of that space. Be good to install a way to make them more durable and removable.

I would like to have seen more batteries. You can't use what you don't have. You have the solar to support this plus re-generating motor????? I find it very informative just watching sailing channels for builds, modifications to simple upgrades. One lesson learned is that when Murphrey visits on a sail boat..... he comes on strong. Parlay got nailed by lightning twice, others have had catastrophic casualties as to having adequate spares or help from strangers it has been having enough power to call for help and function until help arrives. This is my only point ................. enjoy

I'm surprised you don't like remote autopilot controllers. We've been using a wireless remote, push button AP controller for over 8 years on our 70' wheelhouse sailing trawler. It has worked flawlessly and the batteries last almost forever. It's so nice to sit out on fore deck enjoying an evening cocktail while underway and keeping watch with our remote controller. I love the layout of RR2, I am looking forward to seeing her underway. You all have done an amazing job as has the Seawind manufacturing crew. Well done.

i don't have tooo much experience with the current gen devices, but don't current gen systems give you access through your app? So for those few times that you do want to remote control the autopilot while sipping on a caipirinha while lounging in the trampoline, you can use your phone. I think?

Just curious....on a catamaran how often do you adjust the traveller? We trim with it to windward going upwind on our mono hull and drop it quickly if the boat becomes overpowered or to reduce heel - but how do you tell you are overpowered on a cat? With that winch dive it would appear to be difficult to drop it quickly.

Hello. Is there any fire-proofing around the BBQ unit to protect all other hull structures and components? Also, I liked this video much more - because it was easier to digest the info and more engaging, rather than previously when you described/compared the hulls with verbal references only, and no side-by-side visuals or a schematic to help orient the viewer. Having a second person share the info-dense descriptions kept me engaged! Thanks!

Two snake lights in the shop, perfect! Love the traditional grill but don't like that it is flush to the edge, no lip or fiddle. Even on land I'd want some form of lip, I've had a flush grills and it's amazing how much food finds its way to the ground. You'll probably get some kind of cast iron or steel griddle, that can have a lip. Griddle Fiddle™

@gbsailing9436
@gbsailing9436 Год назад
I think I'd go with your design myself, but I would not let them trim the bed corners from the original design for easier access. Access doesn't really bother me when climbing into bed. But my feet like to go looking for the cool spots and seeking them out in the middle of the night is nice fun. It's looking good Nick. You must be xtra excited. One thing I have noticed over the course of the videos on you channel is: On the 1260's you hired and sailed, the BBQ was on a parallelogram and was able to be lifted up, out of a recessed area within the rear bulkhead where it was 'stowed away', to a nice cooking height and then was able to be "put away' once cooking was finished. You don't seem to have the option to do this on your boat. Can Seawind still make it a 'Stow away' item, as per the older design if requested so the cockpit looks more neat and less functional. With it 'stowed away', this would also allow for the fibre glass top to be used as a place to put stuff ( a salad bowl, pitcher of drinks or tray of glasses, bags, shopping etc.) momentarily when not cooking and /or when coming back from shore, whereas with the BBQ lid as it is now you couldn't put anything on top of it, especially with that lovely curve built into it! Could it be possible to recess the whole thing? When will you splash and go on the sea trial? Fair 💨and following 🌊.

I urge everyone who has a boat and uses rechargeable batteries for their laptops, drones, cameras and other portable items to be cautious when charging them. There are several excellent channels on RC drones/planes/cars/etc where they talk about preventing exploding batteries and fires, safe charging practices, damaged batteries, fire resistant storage, and other things to always be aware of. FliteTest is one I like. These little batteries store a lot of energy and if the worst happens can cause a chain reaction with other batteries stored close by and burn your house or boat down.

This question is not SeaWind vessel related but for RubyRose RU-vidrs, are you considering external cameras for RU-vid purposes not security, also a server for all your B-roll and just the massive amounts of data you require for the channel? Be wise in my opinion to have that built out now and also save yourself so much cord and the space required for that type of work. I see many refits or “boat works” done without consideration for it.
