Great video. You have become my go to RU-vid detailing channel. Hands down. Attention to detail, great testing and comparisons, explanations, your own music, and humor. I give you 10 out 10! Keep up the good work. You progressed amazingly over the years of videos you've made. You've earned my trust and my views. Thank you!
My favorite paste wax hands down is Soft99 Fusso. Lasts VERY long, is detergent resistent, keeps my car cleaner for longer and best of all THE BEADS ARE INSANE!
jubair Ahmed Nope, you have to correct the paint before you apply it if you want to get the best looks and best bond possible. At least a finishing polish and IPA wipedown before you apply, as it doesn’t bond well to “dirty” clear coat and you can get patchy spots that are much more hydrophobic than the rest. Good prep work goes with any wax really, but the really high performers make poor preps much more apparent.
There are so many Great products in the retail world these days. We could argue that with the introduction of internet shopping all detailing products are retail. I remember the introduction of the wax called “MER” from Germany in a light blue bottle circa 1980s. It was great stuff but a real nightmare to wipe off. I was still using it on my own car up until it ran out in the mid 2000s🤣🤣. John, another great Video as usual , keep them rolling👍
I've used Autoglyms UHD wax since it came out. It's by far the best wax I've used on my black car. The beading, the easy application and the application pad is brilliant. Oh and it smells so good too. A work colleague walked past my car last summer and he said he could smell it and it smells nice... Just from walking past it! He didn't even know I waxed the car. Anyway, great video and comparison
Collinite 476s. Excellent value and excellent durability. Especially good against salty winter conditions. 11 months is the best longevity I have gotten out of it. Finish kare 1000p. Good value and heat resistance. Bad against salty winter conditions. Fusso F7. Easy 7 months through the winter. Rear and sides were nearly gone but the rest still had a good amount of original properties left. CG Jetseal. Easy +6 months. Lots of waxes/sealants make it to 4-6 months but those three can handle more in my experience.
476s is also sold as a marine wax (Fleetwax 885) 'Long-lasting protection guards against UV, salt spray, marine growth, stains etc.' Hence it's a damn good Winter wax for cars!
Always fantastic content John. It would be nice to see a video or two on how detailing has progressed over the years and how products have changed; my dad still thinks T-Cut is the answer to most problems, please help me educate him!
Very interesting video Jon with some results I wasn't expecting! Of the ones tested I have and use the AG UHD and the Farecla G3 Super Gloss. I do agree that the hydrophobicity of UHD is just a little bit better but having looked at some of my photos of beads from both, there isn't much in it. Application I also think the G3 wins and by quite a margin as well. I like that you can make your way around the full car then grab your towels and buff off in the order applied. I found with this it gave a perfect 25-30 min cure time for the wax to fully cure/harden resulting in removal being effortless. UHD I actually don't find the easiest to use. Cure time needs to be observed carefully and I also find it can be a little difficult to spread a nice even layer of it. Get it right though and it's spot on, I just think the application runs the risk of user error. Great video though Jon, thoroughly enjoyed it. Going to drop you a message bud as I have a proposition for you 😉
I'm loving the UHD Wax. Super easy to apply and the it looks amazing on white cars. Plus the beading is insane on it. Halfords were doing a bundle at the start of the year with the UHd wax and shampoo for 36 notes
Great video. Dodo Supernatural wax has been my main wax the past two years. It’s not the nicest to spread but it seems to give the best reflections and flake pop out of my current stash of waxes.
Great work! Im off to halfords to buy a wax today and i have to say that this is the perfect video for me Really impressed with the level of detail in this video and the speed in which each item is reviewed, thanks for the time and dedication ttowards making a great review video, really helped me choose the perfect wax 👍
i literally just picked up the maguiers past wax from halfords the other day and watched this to see if i want to open it. disapointed in its lack of durability but overall happy with how its faired against the rest. will give it a go if the manchester rain ever stops so i can look fresh for my road trip in 2 days. just found this channel and so far loving it. keep it up you've got a new sub!
Tom Duffield been using maguiers paste wax for a about 9 months now on our two cars. Can’t complain about it, it seems to last about 3 months before it be re-applied. I will be trying a different wax in the new year.
I don't use paste waxes anyone. I've gone to spray waxes. I've never felt like the durability of traditional waxes was that great, so I wash my car once a week and I wax it with spray wax once a week. It's quick my car looks great and it's protected.
Same, and more forgiving in my opinion. By that I mean, no need to clay first, no need to worry about rubbing in to spread (and potentially marring if you haven't clayed/polished before). And if you use one that can be applied while drying, way quicker.
@@ThePaulaon1 I've been using turtle wax ice. I like it because it makes the paint super slick and it's performed well in some abuse tests people have done on RU-vid. It also adds some nice gloss to the paint.
Demon shine every time for me, fantastic product. Really easy to apply and leaves my car looking showroom clean. Also brilliant for rain, it just runs off it.
Great video and good range of tests. Very helpful, thanks. I like Dodo Juice Supernatural Hybrid wax. Its hard work to apply and hard work to remove but it lasts for absolutely ages and gives a great shine.
Got the UHD in a bundle with the UHD wash for £36 from Halfords in the after Xmas offers. (As others have mentioned). I’d been watching a huge amount of your content but now I realised I actually had no decent products. We are talking a gallon of turtle wax wash and wax, some of the ebay Chinese ‘3M’ clay, a dodgy sealant from about 5 years ago from ebay and some SRP (it has its place on my old cars). Got to say that I’d been planning on getting the ancient rotary polisher out at some point.......but....and this is my point. The UHD wash and wax got my cars so clean and shiny I was blown away, so much of an improvement over old school cheap retail stuff. I don’t think I had ever properly waxed a car up to that point, easy to use and not super critical of prep. Properly clean, dry and waxed for me is where its at...in fact I think you should go back to basics sometime. Clean, mask small flaws and wax from a retail type combo of kit on the typical older car.
Halfords have been selling this in a kit with UHD shampoo for as little as £36. I picked one up for £42 but haven’t yet used the wax so I’ll be looking forward to it.
Great Vlog. I have used the autoglym wax on top of their super resin polish and found the products excellent. There not cheep but top quality. However, I don't use these products since getting my car ceramic coated. Ceramic coatings are great but no Sunday polishing just wash n blow dry 👍👍
Autoglym ultra HD I have been using for quite awhile now. Excellent wax . I have used it maybe 10 times and it barely looks like I have taken any from the tin. Durability is excellent . I get about 3 months before I see any decrease in performance. I am using their ultra HD shampoo which is possibly topping up the performance but all around a real quality product which I will take any day of the week over the ceramic coatings and sprays due to it's nice warm glow
Would love to see oldie but goodie Collinite 845 thrown in the mix. You could do a comparison between paste, liquid wax and a spray on sealant (such as BSD or something newer like Done & Dusted Si Edition). Keep up the brilliant work work Jon. You've come such a long way with your content, you're a true inspiration for many of us as someone who won't settle for mediocrity and strive to make things better while keeping honest and true to your roots.
Great review John, in my setup now I'm moving over more to the spray sealants. I think the market is changing as technology in car products is moving forward. I think the market for paste wax is slowing down.
possibly m8. from a scene perspective absolutely yes it is.. from a mass market perspective I would imagine the paste was will still be going strong for a long while yet though.
Great idea this test. I always ignore what’s sold in Halfords to a certain degree so nice to see these results. It would have been great if the Turtle Wax was a shock top performer but not surprising that UHD won. It’s always had a great reputation. Thing is some like BH Double Speed Wax will perform so well for £15 incl decent mf and applicator. Then there’s Imrans ceramic wax.
For great appearance its awfully hard to beat Collinite 845, Insulator Wax. Excellent wax that is easy to apply and lasts a long time. Very affordable. I top it with Beadmaker as needed. This combination works great together and Beadmaker can be applied to every material on the outside of the vehicle. Very slick and looks wonderful.
I feel like all these tests need to culminate in a finale where you put the best of each segment up against each other - a carnauba paste, carnauba spray, liquid sealant, spray sealant, si02 spray, coating lite etc
The Autoglym UHD wax can be bought in Halfords in the Ultra High Definition Collection kit for £36.75 or £32.40 on a trade card. This includes the UHD wax, applicator, microfiber cloth and UHD shampoo. A fair bit better than £44 for the wax alone. UHD wax was £8.80 on a trade card a while back but I think it was a miss-price....
I have always Used Turtle Wax paste. I’ve always debated on finding a “better” paste wax but the only reason I would try to find a better one is because it’s so cheap. But cheap doesn’t define this paste wax. I can’t find anything that holds it gloss and feel like this paste wax but I’ll be trying meguiars. I’m 29 and I’ve been waxing my cars since I was 17 with this 5-9$ paste wax! Loved seeing it scored #1 for value but might need to upgrade.
Used to use the AutoGlym wax until on your recommendation Jon, now I'm a Bilt and Hamber fan ... it's cheaper too. Easy on especially if you spread it thin ... easy off and good longevity. I also use various other Bilt and Hamber products after one of your 'Special Reviews' and love the economy of their degreaser 'Surfex.' I even use it in the home on greasy cooker extractors (not food areas) and makes easy work of it. Another good vid Jon :-)
Excellent channel mate, Iv watched a few of your reviews so far. Wish I had watched this a month ago before I bought, some ultimate wax, Iv used it on both our cars and so far seems ok, but I am sure I will be using it a lot as it’s not so resilient. Think I will be buying some Fusso soft 99 soon, ready for the winter.
I’d like to see a test carried out to see if different wax’s or drying aids actually attract more dirt in the first place. From years of waxing my car, and more recently using AG Polar Seal I’m convinced they do.
1. Your not stupid. Best RU-vid account for detailing related views and reviews. 2. I like the straight to the point manner of this video seems different from past reviews. 3. I'd love to see you do budget end waxes reviews like this but also do reviews on the bigboys/stupidly priced waxes. ( mitchel and king / odk and so on. 4. Two waxes I'd love to hear your views on too is Infinity Wax Primo and Power maxed Tsunami. Both of which would probably hit you up a freebie to test. Nice review anyway Best out there cheers
legend thanks paul. Im gonna do like 5 detailing scene or ya know, not halfords brand waxes soon. I think 5 cheap ones. double speed, in2detail crystal, kiammi, 2 other ones. Then I think perhaps like 5 paste waxes that are supposed to offer real pipe hitting durability. Tsunami I want to get some. I know it Ive had it and played with it, I just didnt realise the durability claim of it, It like to explore that more. I have 5th element which has strong durability. so perhaps like 3 others.
I used to have a lot of conntact with Autoglym wax and yes, it is durable, but otherwise quite picky depending on the car. Some where turning out great, other had dark spots. I'd say it's good for pearl paints and in good shape paints (no deep scratches, not bone dry). Also since it lasts, every application after first is easier.
Love optiwax, easy to use, always bought 5ltrs but struggled to get it. Just bought 5ltrs of autoglanz prism hybrid ceramic wax and blown away by the gloss, can be put on wet like optiwax. 😀
I've stopped using paste waxes unless it's for a show car that want a nice warm natural high gloss finish, mostly using sealants for ease of application and durability, and you've got me into the tac systems range which is excellent and easy to use, used to use the auto finesse soul wax and but would move upto their illusion show car wax if any
Great video as always, thanks for the upload - especially as it’s useful to get mainstream Halfords wallahs interested in detailing. Makes me wanna go wash my car 😀
Would love to see a full shopping list with the top 3 in every part of the wash and polish test you make. i considering to give my Mercedes a go. Ist 16 years old and have 400.000km on the clock. It's black with a deep dark metalik green shade to it. So it would be nice with a "shopping list for starters" Love the videos. Keep it up👍
A nice comparison would be between the „homebrew“ waxmakers and their respective entry level / allrounder waxes, like e.g. ODK Empire, Obsession Wax Phantom or Zeal, Immaculate Reflection Showstopper, Bouncer‘s Sherbet Fizz, Wax-Planet Simplicity or Red October. Another nice comparison would be between montan waxes like Wax-Planet White Noise, Immaculate Reflection Marvellous Montan, Obsession Wax Evolution V2, ValetPro Montan Madness.
Wonderful video, nicely presented and very informative, I’ve always used good old fashioned Simonize Carnauba Wax, but it’s just run out after a few years good service, also just brought a stunning Glazier White Jaguar XF R-sport (Black edition) so I want to show it off in all its glory, always liked/used AutoGlym’s other products, although it’s a bit pricy I think I will treat my new toy to the best. 👍🏻
New to detailing for about a year, I m still experimenting. Having tried the Turtle Wax Hybrid Sealant Hydrophobic Wax spray the result and value to me was mindblowing. I thought the same result and value might apply to their wax. It doesn't. Only buy this is you like buffing. Like REEEEALLY like buffing. Or want a good 60min upper body workout. On a Fiesta. This video was really helpful. Off to see if you did make that "car scene products" vid. Nicely done.
i wish a pro detailer would come to you and gave some of those ceramic coating which are available only for the pros. Like Kamikaze zipang gold, Gyeon Q2 mohs+ and Carpro cquartz professional to see if there is a lot of difference compared to those which are available for everyone.
Great video Jon. My Meguiar’s Ultimate is almost used up and I’m looking to try something else. I’m going to try the Chrysta wax that Car-Chem produce under their VP brand.
Great shows bud from 🇨🇦 I like the farecla G360 super fast finishing wax. ( not a paste) the G360 system is the fastest way to correct paint before waxing.
Nice video buddy. Can you pit the AG UHD against things like Bilt Hamber Double speed wax, Fusso, Collinite, etc and other favourites in the detailing world? I am in the position where I'd only like to buy only one good wax so I'm a bit stuck with what to get, especially as summer is approaching and this is when i'd like to use it. Would like great gloss, durability and hydrophobic properties. Any chance of making such a video happen? Maybe like a mini ultimate wax review and tell us your favourite!
fusso isnt that glossy but its durable and hydrophobic. collenite is durable and gloss but not that hydrophobic. Double speed and UHD are gloss and hydrophobic but not quite as durable 3-4 months perhaps (longer potentially). UHD is the easiest to buff of all 3. colly 915 goes rock hard.
@@ForensicDetailing Hmm ok so there isn't one that ticks every box just yet, I'm edging for the UHD, anything which springs to mind which would be better for £50 or less? Reckon your next wax comparison would head in that sort of direction or are you thinking of something else? Btw, let's say it's summer and you wanted to put a nice wax on your car, what will you be reaching for (or already use)? Cheers
if you want cheap and good go double speed. the autoglym uhd is more expensive, its softer to remove. they are both hydrophobic and roughly similiar durability. ill line up a load of cheaper ones soon. after that Ill look at some monster durability ones.
Hi Jon, I use Autoglym on my X3 and really like it. I have Collinite 845 on the Audi on top of Menzerna power lock. Difficult to say which I prefer other than the Autoglym has been on for 6 months and still beads really well. I prefer to use a sacrificial layer on top of my waxes so use Bead Maker on the X3 and am trying out Bouncer's Done & Dusted Si on the Audi. Once again good info in your videos, thanks👍
It'd be great to see you review some of the EZ Car Care products out now - they almost all seem fantastic value, and some of their products (such as their glass cleaner and spray-and-rinse sealants) are almost suspiciously good!
Bit unfair to have TW at 5th for needing damp application, but two others joint 4th/3rd for needing damp too. I'd call something that's easy to remove and buff a downfall of what's meant to be a protective layer too.
I'm a car valeter and i thought i was going to watch some of this video and skip through but no i watched it all and very impressed with it thank you. have you done a video in autogym life shine?
This is interesting to see. I'm currently doing a test between Meg's gold class, Meg's Ultimate, chem guys jet seal, Meg's mirror glaze synthetic sealent 2.0 and car pro reload that's the same kinda testing you did. But then after the durability I repolisished and reapplied them and have the test panel sitting outside in the weather to see which lasts the longest.
lemme know results.. megs syth2.0 should win that.. or jet seal... megs 2.0 is silicone polymer i think.. jetseal acyrilic polymer.. harder to observe jetseal its less hydrophobic. megs ultimate is not great on durability though from what I seen. or should I say detergerent resistence.
Great review! I tend to think of value as being a combination of quality, performance AND cost. Cheap waxes might look like good value but the biggest investment is surely in the hours of cleaning, application and buffing. If one is more expensive but shines and beads for months makes my car easier to clean - I’ll take that over a cheap price tag where I’ll be underwhelmed with a couple of weeks. I’ll give the AG a shot and see how it fairs against my staple Colly 845 👍
its a lot easier to use than 845 for sure. but you will notice how 845 hardens off rock hard, when things to that it usually means their durability is good. (not always though)
