While SM has better specs, I think PD comes out on top in terms of value and general looks.

Having owned multiple PD's and SM's I am familiar with the quality levels of both, and even though (IMHO) SM has better overall quality, I don't feel the difference in quality warrants the difference in cost, and I agree with just about all your points. On paper and logically it would be financially better to go with the PD. So with all that being said, why in the hell did I choose the SM over the PD?😂 Good video as usual, thumbs up given!

I got the pagani for £35 in sale, on a nato it's a beautiful watch, you can't compare to an SM because the real price of the PD is so much lower

Could you apply a logo and wording stencil/applied logo to this dial, if you can't source an approprate replacement dial?

Excellent run down as always. I'd be definitely learning towards the PD if 36mm was my size preference, I like the high box crystal and the dial shades and no Pagani Design on the dial definitely suits it. As for the water resistance, neither will likely be in the water anyway and on the reality of how resistant they are, and not being divers, I wouldn't trust it either. I do have a Heimdallr and Steeldive, 200m and 300m respectively and I do use them as DC backups very regularly when diving and both are performing excellently. I would be more wary of the rating on watches not specifically made for swimming or diving.

I feel generally SM watches are over priced comparing the market (homages/replica), I own 3 SM, but I found many replicas with good movement and very high end finishing and better bracelet clasp sells at same price plus considering the extra cost for sell copies. So I don not mean go and buy replicas, but what SM offers for the price is not the best in terms cost/quality, even Cronos with PT5000 movement are much cheaper and keep similar level of finishing.

Could/would you try a 30.5mm Seiko dial, just to see how it looks?

I bought that 1751 for 45.00. Shortly thereafter it went on sale for $42. It's not perfect but it's a lot of watch at that price.

You made one mistake on the Pagani design as it has sapphire glass on the rear exhibition case not mineral

I think the SM has a 19mm lug width, not 20, but 20 on the 38mm version

I went with the larger of the two San Martin models a couple of months ago, not realizing there was a choice. (I don't think I saw the Pagani option until after I bought it.) But even if I'd had a chance to see both, I would've gladly paid the premium for the better finishing. In my case, that attention to detail followed through to the hands, too. They look much better on my watch than those shown in this video. I wonder if the handsets for the two versions aren't produced under different supervision or something? And zero debris on my dial, and I personally like the matte look for a piece this "exploration"-oriented. Thanks for posting this comparison, as I'd been wondering what the difference in brand/pricing actually worked out to!

PD is the winner. I just got mine for $50 usd. It is perfect on a brown leather. The black dial is like staring into an abiss... Best $50 i've ever spent. The SM dial looks empty, like something is missing. The seconds hand on the SM is a touch too short.

I do agree, that I wish black dial on the San Martin could be a deeper black, but at least on this style watch I'd rather it not be glossy like on the PD. If it was an OP homage sure that glossy deep black dial might be better. But I like the matte look for this "Ranger" field style watch. I just wish the San Martin wasn't quite so grey-ish. Other than that yes the San Martin is clearly better (yes the hands on both could be better although I actually like the seconds hand on the SM with the longer red tip and post that meets purposefully right at the numerals). But as you mention at the "normal" price the SMs are getting a little over priced at least for an AliExpresss brand. I would definitely be patient and get it at sale price though which then makes it a great value. Although AliExpress brands overall still offfer good value even at their standard prices when you consider them to mainstream brands. These watches all punch above their weight when you consider price.

@The Watcher I totally agree the San Martin hands have tough edges. I bought the 38mm version, the hands were stamped and not polished on the edge, identically rough like yours. The quality of the watch is not anywhere like the ones I saw in the review specimens on major RU-vid channels. A lot of dust on the dial. The worst disappointment of mine is the polish on the bezel. It has brush marks all over the place, pretty much like the pattern you see on the blade of a Japanese sword. Would you tell me if you have the same brush marks on yours? You will have to take a very close look. You won't notice much under soft diffused lighting like from your soft box, but you will see it under strong spot light. That was the thing that destroyed the watch for me. Please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Both are really good watches at price points. I enjoy both, each looks different. I wouldn't keep them off my wrist. A good day banger that I really like. Or something that is a better watch and is very good compared to what you would pay if swiss. I enjoy these companies because they are trying hard to get a good watch out for two different types of guys. I'm a lume pig

I've set the time on my Pagani 3 days ago to be exact as internet time from the PC in a second. Today (3 days after setting it), it is running on +9 seconds. That is CRAAAZY accuracy! +3 seconds a day on average. This is a chronometer

Thanks for the vid! Personnaly really dislike some points of the pagani.. I mean, first, the logo, second some inscription like diver on the back, and lastly, japan movt on the dial.. looks fake! nh35 is SII and not made in Japan!

Each is pitched to a different buyer, based on lower than average and higher than average Chinese homage price points. Excellent comparison, with criticisms of each. Could the PD polished bezel be brushed to an acceptable level, by modders? I'm unsure if anyone did a good job brushing this PD case bezel. Could be a good mod.

If you would compare the SM to the Tu… the Tu would win by maybe 5 points on your scale but how much would you cost then each of this points? 😉 The SM is nearer on the Tu quality wise than the Pagani is to the SM in my eyes. If I compare my SM SN0054-G-B1 to the Tu BB pro than the SM would maybe win by some points. In my eyes SM is in different league than Pagani. Tudor is also in a different league then SM but a SM. But I highly would prefer 1 SM watch over 2 Pagani Designs. But as always to each his own.

The San Martin is the way better watch. The use of a polished bezel suggests the Pagani uses an off-the-shelf case. But that specific variant of the San Martin with white hands and sterile dial does nothing for me. Speaking of the San Martin quality. It's a real shame this copy came with debris on the hour hand and the finishing quality of the hands looks nothing like the flawless example they use for their promo pictures.

While you were reviewing the watches on your video it seamed you pointed out more points for the Pagani, yet the results made the watch look like garbage. Seemed I was watching the score of a UFC fight that the judges scored it badly

Bought them both. I like them both. Would have paid 40.00 more for decent lume on the pagani design. Both companies did a good job. I have no desire to buy a _udor __anger now.

The bezel is thinner and the crystal is much better on the san martin. The bracelet clasp and bracelet in general is better than the pagani design.

Are these COSC or METAS certified? lol just kidding. Pretty sweet pieces though.

I’m curious as to why you would assume that since they are from China they are not tested. Do you not see the inherent racism in a comment like that? I say this as an African-American in the United States of America facing what I face on a daily basis, I mean you know malice but please think before you speak. These people may very well test to the ninth degree and you would never question anything out of Japan would you...... Shiko etc.

There's something about most of the PD watches that make them look like cheap low quality toys where the SM watches are high quality and look way above what they cost. SM wins again here.
