This is amazing. Regarding to the photo of the Seabees at 16:15, I am 99% sure that the 5th seabee from the left wearing a helmet, is my uncle, Ralph Lewis. He is no longer living, but I'd recognize his grin anywhere.
I landed on Tinian in 2000. It's a 20 minute boat ride by commuter from Saipan. The base is gone. There is apark there. I stood on the spot where Littleboy and Fatman were loaded
My father was a 19 year old Marine when he fought on Saipan, Tinian, Kwajalein and Iwo Jima, with a few more islands thrown in for good measure, and it’s good to see documentaries about the Pacific War….it was completely ignored for so long in favor of the war in Europe. I started seeing more books about Asia and the Pacific after Ken Burns released “The War,” but that was only about 15 years ago, or so.
Alexander Peña, 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment 2nd Marine Division, Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Saipan and Tinian, He was KIA July 30th 1944 on the island of Tinian, the island was declared secure Aug 1st, he almost made it home, R.I.P Uncle Alex, the Greatest Generation of All Time,God Bless America.
What a tremendous voice you have for narrating these battles. The graphics are clear. Maybe an arrow or two indicating movement and Japanese response may be helpful. However, great show. Thank you. Happy Trails (1st time on your channel)
@@BuzzSargent I'm not a native English speaker, and my accent is broken. Trust me, this way is better. Those who can endure the robot voice will watch these videos, otherwise, no one would.
Tinian seems a far better choice for initial invasion than Saipan given its flat terrain. It would have provided land bases for air forces supporting a Saipan invasion
My father told me that the diversion fleet was anchored off tinian town for three days before the japanese shore batteries found worthwhile targets and fired on the battleship and destroyer that were way out to sea He later was part of the effort to aid the casulties. His only comment was they got clobbered
My grandfather, Col.William R Burgoyne fought there as well. I have the sword I was given from PopPop, he found on the islands. Shot in the head, still fighting…. Ended up in Guam…. Passed from ALS in 1977, I believe.
As an 11 year old that was born and raised in tinian I found bullets and artillery from this was. I moved from there because my dad wanted us to come.I am also glad I left it hurts leaving tinian. There are good and bad spirits there you have to ask in chromu if you do you can do what you want you just have to ask.I ask if you have to go number 1 ASK before you do these sprites can do injuries and death. My uncle was swimming after 6:00 that’s when the spirits swim we have to respect them during when he was swimming he felt a pinch a couple months later his leg got very big.I came during that time when I got there I saw his leg I felt bad my family told my brothers and I we had to ask before we do something. When I do something in the jungle I ask so I don’t get hurt or die yes die these spirits can make you die some people die from not asking.I LOVE TINIAN FOREVER 670 FOREVER that’s my island number.
Dad's ship USS Bimingham CL-62 put an awful lot of 6"/47 and 5"/38 rounds onto that island, knocking out tanks, pillboxes and a concentration of jap infantry (highly unusual in daylight).
I can't get this video to play for some reason. I have been trying for 2 days now and multiple times. I have watched all videos on this channel already, but have gone and tested a few of them again and they all work fine, it is just this video that won't load. Is anyone else having the same problem?
Text To Speech Engines are 30 years old and better than ever. ChatGPT isn't even the same thing. Also, it lies. Someone worked hard on this script and then had it read by a well developed TTS engine. So how about you either enjoy the content, or do better. And until then, stfu.
I can't believe that the biggest topic of discussion in on this excellent video is how good/bad the TTS is and whether a shitty search engine wrote it. Kids, if you don't understand AI, TTS, the difference between the two, and how much work goes into making a video like this, you don't have to watch and you are most welcome to fuck off back to Facebook. Jesus fucking Christ. Excellent presentation, thanks very much. The level of detail is very impressive, and small TTS pronunciation errors really don't detract from the quality of the channel. So thanks heaps.

Limey guns inflicted heavy casualties on the USMC. It was suspected that the guns were moved from Singapore. In "Tarawa; 3 Days of Hell" was the limeys' allegation that the guns were sold about 40 years before. Japan was at war with Russia. The Russian Caesar was related by marriage and blood to Edward VII. Good series, but annoying that the narrator seems to go to special lengths to grossly mispronounce the names of all these places. Ta-RAH-wa?? SAY-pen?? EYE-wo-Jeema? I'm surprise he doesn't say EYE-wo-J-eye-ma. As a US Marine, I think I know how these classic battle place names are pronounced.
@@FromtheBattlefields Seriously - the narration is done by AI? Hmmm, very interesting. I did notice that the narration earlier said SAY-pen and in later episodes such as Tinian seemed to be saying more correctly "si-PAN"
