What's worse is sometimes they will increase the amount of xp you need to complete a level, last Season of fortnite people were complaining about the xp required to level up being higher then usual. This is seriously Scummy business tactics
It seems it has changed though. I’ve heard each level up to level 200 is 80,000 XP and it’s very easy to level up now thanks to creative mode and challenges
Yeah I remember when they did that. The only thing I think you forgot about is that they also increased so from the challenges so it balanced each other out that season. Now though every level up only needs 80,000 xp which is great and you don’t need to buy anything in the game as you only need to play 3 seasons to get your first Bp for free and then after that you can get every other bp. On top of that you get more vbucks which means overtime you’ll be able to buy the skins from the item shop you want.
When it comes to Fortnite they’ll give you lots of chances to at least finish the pass before the end I really only enjoy battle pass system in Fortnite while others are bad pretty much Examples like multiverses not giving you currency back Overwatch as well
Another good one is the way Deep Rock Galactic does it. The battle pass (or "Performance Pass" as they call it) is completely free, and any cosmetics you may have missed are moved to other in-game lootpools (meaning no time-gating/FOMO).
@darckap2785 yea deep rock is pretty good and enjoyable. But if it's some battlepasses that don't even give you enough currency back to buy the next one is just tryna grab your money so you buy them again and again
One point you made on the Halo infinite battlepass system being always on, reminded me that brawlhalla now starts to reintroduce old passes. Free for the people who already paid for them (since they work as steam dlcs) and you can resume where you ended, and new people can get the old stuff if they buy it.
The thing is, on Fortnite, I have friends who rarely play or complete challenges able to complete the battle pass within the season before it is vaporized, so it is possible.
im not your friend but i did the same been doing that since two years ago now im done with current season im off until next season unless some buddy invite me to play
I hear what you're saying about loot boxes vs battle passes, however randomized rewards will ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be worse and more frustrating than a deterministic grind. Crossing my fingers, kissing my rabbit's foot and praying to the five winds for a reward I want and never getting it? That ain't it, sorry. I'll take a slightly longer, but guaranteed reward over that any day, even if it involves some activities I dislike in order to get the thing I want.
Ong people asking for loot crates until they buy a bunch of them and get nothing they want. This dude is complaining for no reason if you want the rewards play the game they are giving you insane value for just playing.
Another big problem with modern battle passes is actually two issues: It feels like they're everywhere, with many being released on new games AT LAUNCH, and they get added to games that didn't warrant them. Examples include Gardenscapes, Homescapes, and Best Fiends.
@@fadedstudiosx5800 Oh yeah, it's awful. Diamond pass AND no books? And it costs more? I never really played the game but I've been staying in loop of everything, and I don't know if it's the devs or Tencent, but someone is bringing CR to its deathbed.
At least with Fortnite battle passes you don't have to keep spending money for every seasons battle pass. Every season battle pass contains 1,500 vbucks and you only need 950 vbucks for each battle pass. So as long as you save at least 1000 vbucks from each season you can get away with only spending actual money only once and get every future battle passes for free. (Or no money at all if you get gifted the battle pass.) This could be true for a few other games.
I am very very annoyed Fortnite locks fictional characters as big and important as Superman or Darth Vader behind passes while trying to tout itself as a "metaverse"
It’s how they get money though. I am sad that I can’t get Vader or Spider-Gwen, but it is what it is. They’re still a metaverse though. Metaverse doesn’t mean every important skin is attainable
Man I’m so glad I realized how much time I was wasting pointlessly grinding for cosmetics in brawlhalla last year. Got to the point where the only reason I would play the game was just to do BP challenges and farm legend levels. Didn’t actually like playing the game anymore. Since then I’ve given up cosmetics entirely and pretty much play multiplayer games exclusively based on the gameplay. Been working out so far I guess
What I hate the most is when I don't finish it in time and I can't ever get those rewards. If you bought it, why not somehow keep it and conplete it later?
This is why Battle Passes should be available in the item shop at a discounted price for those who have it unfinished or be priced slightly higher for those who missed out but the fact people defend Epic's bad decisions & tactics & make fun of other fans who missed out but will cry about downgraded designs from concept arts
@@HylianBean97 I think they should make it an option only for those that lost it cuz people lowkey get mad when their "rare item" turns available to everyone.
Fomos in general really bug me, especially in wow(wow doesn't have a battlepass but still has fomo for it's content. one thing from a season will be gone forever, and that's why it's fomo takes a long time because it's challenging content, not just grinding it, and I'm good at that given that i got most of it's recent stuff except for it's PVP related stuff) I fully agree with this. Weather you're busy or not, or just hate grinding something, and having it not seen again is just so sad. Imagine not being born that time it was still active and you're interested in that game a few years after you're born, and suddenly you ask "where you get this" and then he says "You can't get it anymore it's gone forever" I usually get triggered by this so much. I wasn't old enough to play wow when some of if not my favorite contents of sets and mounts were available and thus i wasn't born at the right time so i can never get these cosmetics... Same could be said the fomos of other games... including battle pass.
Lootboxes can be fun if they are free or theere is plenty of other options to feasably obtain the items found in them through in game progression. I had no issue with Overwatch 1 because of this. Even bought lootboxes sometimes. The system did not feel predatory to me at all since it was so easy to obtain skins by playing the game normally.
The thing is, I don’t think Fortnite battle passes are terrible. I think Fortnite battle pass is doing quite well for me, I like where they go with challenges and extra rewards, and super styles. Though I do get your point. Battle pass challenges can get a bit boring, though some of them in Fortnite go with the storyline.
These practices are killing gaming. Nothing more than pure greed, it has sucked the life out of video games which now feel like work instead of fun! For content creators that like doing a variety of different games this is an absolute disaster for them. Battle passes / season passes / microtransactions / pay to win / etc have ruined gaming
Even though they made Overwatch f2p, I'd rather pay for the game and be able to get almost every item (aside from those from special events) instead of paying every now and then for those items
The best battle pass Ever: Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. It’s no debate that this season had the most ORIGINAL skins, which all had their own story. I really liked and still like that every character had a room that showed different things about them and that you could use to get a style. In recent battle passes, the characters are completely IRRELEVANT and UNORIGINAL. Every season we get at least 3 common people with no charm, costume, or personality. In Chapter 2 Season 2 everyone would talk about the Battle Pass characters because they were also bosses, which made them even more relevant then they were. Other from the skins, the battle pass had a great menu and it was very interactive. (Something that we don’t have now) it also had a great battle pass interface, though that only matters a bit. The cosmetics like the pickaxes and emotes were awesome. Something nobody mentions is that this battle pass had the best loading screens ever, like the Shark loading screen and the Grotto loading screen. They have the greatest art style ever seen in fortnite. To summarize, fortnite chapter 2 season 2 was the best battle pass in history, and if someone is in disagreement, please, prove me wrong.
Chapter 2 season 4 is the best battle pass in fortnite history. collab skins are better than original skins because of the memes and stand-out better. Spiderman, Peter Griffin, Darth Vader, Enimine, Goku, Master Chief, Kratos, and John cena are all doing the Orange justice. That broke me. BRING IT ON!!! Jk 😂 Chapter 2 season 2 was the last jem of peak fortnite Originality.
Plants vs. Zombies Battle for Neighborville did a change where you can get any battle pass items regardless if it’s over (However it’s only on the switch version)
Overwatch 2 is legit the worse than all other games. I used to be a casual gamer, but am debating about quitting the game and playing when I want to. Plus they don't even include in game currency.
Games like fortnites battle pass systems are good because YOU CAN ACTUALLY FINISH UR BATTLE PASS there were videos online everywhere.. where people finish their battle pass on the last day of the season
Fortnite has also started doing mini-passes once every season. The problem that exists with this, however, is that most of them are collaborations, and if you are not a fan of the collaboration media in the pass, any incentive to complete it goes away and it's back to square one.
League is even worse. A pass that gives you tokens and you have selective rewards. ONLY ONE skin (prestige) is purchasable when you get ALL 50 levels of the regular pass. IF you wanted any of the other extras, well good luck grinding the endless token mission that gives you 20 tokens every 3 or so games. It's a very big middle finger in the face of all league players
Back in season 7 chapter 1 of fortnite they released a bunch of challenges that if completed you would unlock the next battle pass. They did that for season 8 and 9 and then stopped. I feel like games should do that so you can unlock the bp without having to spend money
Actually finishing the battle pass in every season of Fortnite always gives you your vbucks back + more, so completing them does technically unlock the next one unless you overspend in the Item Shop.
I just made a video in my tongue (Spanish) about this and the algorithm just recommended me this. Let's just shit on these awful practices across the globe!
One of rhe best battle Pass is definitly Splatoon 3 its completly free (if you bought the game lol) if you missed out well thats sad but atleast it was "free"
Fortnite battle pass is great tho you get 1500 v bucks from it and it only cost 950 to buy. You also get 400 from the free one meaning over the course of 3 seasons you can get 1
I agree with all points. I honestly can pardon the fomo passes since they’re free and show up six weeks over the course of several months, not great, but honestly find it acceptable cause it’s free. They need to rotate old fractures into the game. Also, fuck paid loot boxes I don’t want em back. Splatoon 3 progression systems and such are basically modern gaming perfection.
Paid loot boxes are the worst yeah. I agree with your point about fomo passes on paper but the idea of Mark V Zeta being inaccessible forever is sad and goes against the series standard of having a wealth of content
Great video. I love Fortnite but hate the battle passes, I always have. I completely missed out on chapter 2 season 7’s battle pass because of school at the time and it makes me genuinely upset because I love the cosmetics and skins from that pass and I’d legitimately pay money for them! But I can’t get them anymore. FOMO wins again
Apex legends is literally everything you was looking for also they be releasing battle pass skins in the store but i havent played it in like 4 years so idk if it changed
Yeah the ps4 and ps5 are literally just ps3s with slight upgrades. The games play exactly as they have back then today. Look at cod for example. Shipment from 2007 is still a functional map in their newest game because the gameplay is exactly the same
I think bro forgot paying for anything digital is stupid as the seller/storefront can take it away whenever, or it can get lost due to the device breaking, etc. Only having issue with this concept for one thing, battle passes, seems stupid if it is the intangible nature you dislike.
Battle passes are very unhealthy. They're complete cancer. I'll never pay actual money for one. When I do get a battle pass, it's with in-game currency that I save up. At this point, I will not get another pass again, because they're a complete chore and prevent me from playing other games because they expire.
1. If you wont be able to finish the battle pass and you know it and you know you’ll waste your money. Then don’t buy it. 2. The reason that you can skip tiers is because most people on Fortnite buy the ENTIRE battle pass and because like what you said some people might not have enough time. 3. 9/10 games make it so if you buy one battle pass then level up to tier 100 then you will have enough in game currency to buy the next one. 4. It good
Bro I just downloaded Fortnite again so I could shop around the store and buy some skins of cool characters I like that I see people using in videos all the time. I was pretty excited, until I realized that all the ones I wanted I could no longer find, and the one I wanted from the newest season was locked behind a battle pass. What’s the point? If I’m willing to pay for plenty of very specific skins, why lock them away or make them impossible to get?
I remember back in Fortnite CH1 S10 i didn't have much time to play buy i bought the pass. The system back then was to do challanges for pass not like now with the XP system. In last week of the season i grinded my pass from lvl 40 i went to lvl 95. I only had 5 lvls left and few challanges for bonus styles unfortunatelly my PC broke then and I wasn't able to get tier 100 skin and some bonus styles. I'm still pissed about it even tho it was 5 years ago cuz its still my favourite BP from there.
@@crustbound The skins and items weren’t very connected to the lore and just didn’t seem worth grinding for. It was like they had ran out of ideas, which is sad because my favourite part of the game was grinding the challenges and trying to race my friends to Tier 100. But the challenges because tedious and not fulfilling. And the battle pass items were slight variations of old ones or colourful blobs. My friends were also getting bored so in the end I just gave up. I don’t know why my comments about video games are so negative. But I thoroughly enjoyed the good years of Fortnite.
@@crustbound um well the skins in some battle passes dont get sold in item shop so they are kinda exclusive and like fortnite u get more v bucks for the seaseon to come instead of buying again. Very bad explanation lol
In my opinion the only battle pass that’s good is apex and fortnite since there games have always done but games like overwatch and halo cause games that don’t have it and then get it added just be so fucking ass especially Overwatch I use to love that game but then they gave us this update that they call a sequel and now the game is so ass
I think the Fortnite Battle Pass is pretty much perfect, gives you currency so you can unlock the next Battle Pass, has good stuff in it, not too grindy to get through, my only problem with it would be that if you paid and didn't complete it it's gone forever
Battle Passes aren't bad, it's just one specific game to me takes it too far by making all the good stuff in the pay tier and leaves mediocre items in the free one just to progress to the literal end for something half decent.
For the long term the battlepass system is a shot in the foot. Fortnite never brings bp's back, and therefore a lot of iconic characters are lost to new players forever (including ones still being used for marketing). It creates an environment where new players don't feel welcome if they join years after the game has been out. I know people that didn't play Fortnite but wanted characters that were locked behind an old pass and they lost interest. They're losing future players and money.
Destiny 2’s battle pass actually is a good battle pass, in some areas. The free track goes up to tier 35 where you get an exotic weapon (highest tier) and materials and other seasonal items, which can still be collected after the season has ended until the YEARLY reset. The passes include a bunch of useful materials, fun cosmetics, and a bunch of exotic things like exotic engrams, cyphers, and new deep sight harmonizes that allow people to craft weapons from seasons that ended last year.
So...no...Destiny's season pass is actually pretty terrible. Shame you didn't mention any of its actual problems... Like, paid tier skips. Deep Sight Harmonizers being WOEFULLY limited. The cost of the Season Pass going toward temporary game content that last between 3 and 12 months, and once it's gone, your money goes with it. The hiding of boosters in the paid track that free players don't benefit from. The fact that people who pay get instant access to the seasonal exotic, which they can then take into PvP and roll on people with, before anyone truly knows how to counter it. The free track is literally worthless, and if you don't pay for it, you can't even access the seasonal content missions or activities. It's horrible.
I don’t mind battle passes as a concept, in fact they can greatly increase the enjoyability of a game (the biggest one for me was the old black ops menu musics in Cold War) but I’ve gotten to the point where if there’s a time limit on it, I’m instantly out and probably won’t play the game again.
I feel like the point you’re missing is that the whole point of a battlepass is that it’s limited time and if you have something or you don’t like the rewards you can just not buy the battlepass
I mean i kinda agree with people that say you had this long to do this and that. But at the same time i disagree casue everyone can't complete them cause they have a life..like sometimes i get to level 100 in fortntie somewhere towards the second month of a season casue i take long breaks from the game
I agree and disagree, take Fortnite if you look at how much it costs (9$ about) and you get 1500 vbucks (15$ worth of vbucks) along with exclusive skins and other stuff. Fortnite is a free to play game so they have to make money some how. But for other games like overwatch the price to what you get back is not close at all. I agree in some aspects but some I disagree I respect you opinion and ya have a good day :D
FOMO is one thing that makes battle-pass popular but it’s also what makes you flex on others in a sense. It’s a fun think to work forward to me at least.
I actually think the idea of a battle pass is fine! Having paid progression tracks in an F2P game is an excellent compromise between progression and microtranscations, i just feel the implementation could be better
Other than FOMO I think battle passes are okay. You should be able to buy (as long as you simply just logged on during the season) and finish them post season that’s all I gotta say. That’s the only thing I really despised about games like fortnite ever since 2017 or so.
Fortnite is one of the only games who does battlepasses right as there are so many ways to get xp and gets much easier and gets easier each season, not only that but theyre purely cosmetic so it doesnt unbalance the game by giving you weapons
@@crustboundone cool thing about Fortnite is that they do supercharged days where are you earn triple the amount of XP you usually earn which makes grinding less of a chore
I kind of understand where you’re coming from but at the same time I feel like if games, have rare and sought after cosmetics it makes obtaining them satisfying.
Let me give an example, sea of theives has a battle pass, also has cosmetics that can be earned with currency that is earned by olayeing. However there are some times that have to be obtained by doing harder quests and challenges. These challenges ofc are not required, but it is still awesome to do them for the reward
I mean, Fortnite Battle pass is fine, its easy to level up and gives you a lot of rewards (And when the season ends, they give you 20 levels for free if you haven't finished the battle pass Last 3 seasons i didn't play more than 20 hours each season and still finished them finished them
you want something to work towards in an online game, but you don’t want battle passes? and the fact that it takes away your pass when the season over is understandable on why you wouldn’t like it, but if you know that, then don’t buy it? if you don’t want to grind for it then don’t buy it. they give you quests to do in the online matches, that give you xp, that let you level up the pass. not to mention the fact that there’s a free pass so your gonna get rewards for doing those quests even if you don’t pay the game at all. its a free to play game but they need to make money some how😂 you have something to work for even if your playing free. you don’t need to spend any money to have something to do in the game. the point of the “fear of missing out” strategy is to get people to play their game. it’s business. they make money off of it and they don’t even require you to pay them to have fun. it’s your choice wether to pay them to get the battle passes or the virtual currency. if you hate them, don’t buy them. that simple.
You buy the battlepass knowing what it is and also knowing you only have a couple months to complete it so that argument is pretty dumb. Also if it's a free game obviously they are gonna make you pay for extras
If you don’t want to commit to grinding a battle pass at that time, then…don’t buy the battle pass? The answer to your problem is right there and you’re deliberately skipping over it to make your point valid. 10 dollars for 10 pages with 100 items is good deal, and it’s ultimately up to YOU if you buy it or not, and if you waste your money then don’t complete it simply because you didn’t want to? That sounds like a you problem at that point, not the games.
Dog really? You completely miss the point and invalidate someone else's argument just by saying "don't buy it" the point is fomo and no other progression besides the battle pass you buy a game realize you like it but oh no only progression is a lomted time battlepass that forces fomo and predatory marketing THINK DUDE THINK just not buying the battlepass doesn't solve the problem
@@conformalstatue4016 I don’t think I’m the one who missed the point. My comment isn’t about the video as a whole, he obviously makes valid points, I’m referring to the one statement he makes about not wanting to grind a battle pass or having other games he’d rather play instead, if you buy a battle pass knowing you’re going to feel this way and know you aren’t going to complete it, then you have no right to complain about it when you didn’t even try. Battle passes are fine for free games because they’re free, that’s why it works for Fortnite, but I agree that they’re terrible In most other games.
So let's say, for example, some kid buys the new Fortnite battle pass, and then his parents divorce. His time (for a while) will mostly be spent navigating the emotional ramifications of this and settling into a second home, and now will be unable to complete the pass in time. Is this the kid's fault? The hypothetical kid here paid for something, and shouldn't feel pressured to get on. "Just dont buy it" isnt an excuse for subpar products
@@crustbound but he would miss out regardless? Even if the battle pass was free he’d still be too occupied with something far more important than a game. Buying a battle pass then willingly not playing it, knowing it’s limited time then saying it’s the games fault when you had 3 months to complete it is 100% on you. Unfortunate circumstances do happen that are out of peoples control and it sucks, I’d know, I missed 2 different battle passes back in chapter 1 of Fortnite because of real life issues but I don’t blame the game for that. At the end of the day these things (usually) costs 9-10 dollars, again I think paying for a battle pass in an free game like Fortnite is fine, but in games like halo Infinite (who imo has handled battle passes well) they should be free or at least cheaper.
@@crustboundthe battle pass is free in fortnite if you're not dumb and don't waste your v-bucks fortnite always makes it so you can get the new battle pass without spending any money and if you know you can't finish the battle pass don't buy it simple as that I don't know why you're including fortnite in this video the battle pass in fortnite is actually good better than most and not too mention they have some days where there's Double XP which makes it easier and they do free events that you can get level up tokens that give you a guaranteed level up plus sometimes a skin and not just ugly skins they have some cool anime skins and whatever collab they have there will be a cool skin my dad when he played the game he got a bunch of skins without spending money on them from saving his v-bucks and if they made it so you can do every single battle pass even if you don't finish it that will ruin a lot of the community as one of the things about the fortnite community is the rare cool skin no one else can get so they kind of can't change it
Fortnites battlepass is a good example of a well implemented battlepass. Battlepasses in general are pretty trash but two other games that do battlepasses well are: Deep Rock Galactic(their battlepass is entirely free and whatever cosmetics you don't unlock during that season will be added into the loot pool that you'll naturally get while playing the game). Super Animal Royale also does their battlepass very well, allowing you to buy previous seasons battlepasses and progress them whenever you'd like to. Battlepasses in general aren't great, but i believe eventually they'll be phased out for something better, like how loot boxes were.
I highly disagree. Super grindy battle passes are the problem not battle passes all together. Ones that either make you pay money to progress because grind so bad or bad stuff halting progression. Fortnite is the best battlepass system. I started this season with xp maps and casual play. I am level 250 without much time. I started this season late and I blew through it. I play it for fun with friends. Other games like dead by daylight and halo infinite being the worst with a crazy grind. Locking big progression being hard challenges or challenges that force you to play against how you normally play that isn't fun like fortnite. It's so pointless and I work full time while doing stuff for family.
Guy's, ONLY BUY THE PASS IF YOU'LL COMPLETE IT! Why should they change a 3 month time period because you paid. Just don't buy it if you can't complete it.
Halo Infinite has permenant battle passes just fine 🤷♂️. The reason they expire is to try and squeeze more money out of people who dont have unlimited free time
