All of those ladders. Watching this brings back fond memories of my Carrier, Independence CV-62. She's been scrapped already but she was a fine ship. The Greatest Generation. That's who they were. We owe a great deal to those guys and gals. All they wanted was to go over and kick the snot out of Nazi's and Japanese and then go home. Many of the things I did on my ship were pioneered by these guys. I will always be grateful to those who fought. May God Bless the US Navy
I served on the IKE, 5,500 men, 90,000 ton displacement. I worked in V-2 division, flightdeck, bow cats, cats 1, and 2, it was awesome. Oh, 1990 to 1994.
William Bendix was a great actor, especially in the movie " Mutiny on the Bounty " of 1935. Captain Bligh is buried within St. Mary's Church, at Lambeth Bridge, London. My sister was married there in 1956.
@@davidgladstone6588 Sorry, you are correct, he wasn't in "Mutiny on The Bounty " As a child, I went with my parents to see one of those movies, and obviously, I've got the two mixed-up. Thank You!
@@JHurt-yj6ts Two Years before the Mast is a great film, and William Bendix was terrific in it, Alan Ladd was also in it. Mutiny on the Bounty is a true classic with a towering performance by Charles Laughton as Bligh!
Try to show High Plains Drifter. This movie was great. I love the ww2 movies, because they remind me of the immense sacrifices made by so many to insure my freedom. No words can ever express my gratitude. To all who fought so bravely, I say Thank You.
Corny as hell, but shows some details on carriers and carrier life that you’ve probably never seen - unless you served. Aft emergency steering -70 cranks for 1 degree of rudder turn. 😮. Imagine a 30 degree right rudder followed by 30 degrees left to avoid air attack 😮
This movie is based on the true story of the USS Franklin and its Captain Leslie Gehres and Catholic Chaplain Joseph O'Callahan in action off the coast of Japan. O'Callahan received the Medal of Honor for his actions. Captain Gehres was known as a strict disciplinarian and was widely dislike by the crew. His actions, including downgrading the alert status just before the attack were criticized.
No, but would you expect a Hollywood scriptwriter to know that? Probably the only way the scriptwriter knew about Bligh was watching the 1935 movie "Mutiny on the Bounty" dramatisation and thought it was pure fiction - which it 80% was.
Just watching the video on the Horse Guards, and the issues they are still having with dumb tourist's. Things have improved ...a little for the guards & Horse's since the delineated area was installed in front of the Guard's area. But it's still not doing the job. I have a suggestion for the Ares in question; Instead of a boxed area, where people can still touch the Horse's and the guards; make a radius from each gate/ fence on either side of the building, and take the radius out from the building 1.5 m, so as tourist people can't touch the horse...because there are corners . The radius would take away the corners, etc, This would work better than the square.
At 1:07:22 in the movie when Buck was praying, I need to set the record straight. Being "Good enough" or "Doing your best", will not get anyone to Heaven . Jesus said "I an the way, the truth and the life. No man can come to God except through me." Jesus said "There is none that doeth good: No, Not one." If anyone disobey even one of God's Commandments , he is guilty of breaking them all. Jesus knew this. That is why he came to Earth to die in our place on the cross of Calvary. Jesus did that so that mankind can be forgiven for their sins, but you must believe that Jesus is the only Son of the one True Living God, and that he was raised from the dead after three days. Then you must ask God to forgive your sins, and turn away from them and live for Jesus. Then you will have Eternal life in Heaven with Jesus.
