Battlefield 1 - Actual WW1 tactics - Fighter plane 

Yep, I'm sure a real WWI tactic was to spot your enemy and check your mini-map for where he is moving.

Real life dogfighting tactics don't apply to an arcade-style flying game. The physics are so dumbed down and user friendly that it is not comparable to real life.

Planes are so much harder to maneuver on console

great video. very professional. im level 19 bomber and i enjoy evading enemy fighters. throttle down hard immediately corkscrew downward left fly low and slow as possible. Fighters dont handle well at low speeds and i can usually coax them into crashing into a structure. PS4.

number 6 is my favorite, When I first heard it, I was skeptical about it, but history shows that aces did that a lot. It works in game too.

You know what ive started to do as a defender? Is while retreating taking out Aa guns. Works like a charm

Basically all these tactics are what war thunder players already know.

Though it's probably considered common sense now, at some point around WWII, pilots began to realize that the best way to avoid getting shot to bits by bomber gunners was to either dive attack from directly above the target, or to climb attack directly below. The need to be directly in a blind spot is heightened with WWI era bombers because of their gunners' increased mobility and ability to aim higher or lower than their WWII counterparts.

I had an amazing tactic with the tank hunter in the beta. Have a lot of clips where I'd knock all 3 of their tri planes out of the sky.

The reason you want to start from a higher altitude is so you can dive and exchange altitude for speed. In aerial combat, the plane with the most energy has the advantage, so the best position to be in is high altitude moving fast.

The bomber can just change his flight angle so when under attack the tail is looking at the ground

With tactic 1 the reason to stay above your opponent is so that when you attack you can dive down on top of him, giving you more speed. Planes at the time were very slow, so a dive to acquire more speed, could be the difference between life and death, the drawback though, is that when you fly above your opponent, you loose sight of him. Although he can still see you. But, although he may see you, and you can't see him, if he spots you before you dive, he really can't do much, he can't climb to meet you because the planes of the time were weak, if he tried to climb to get an advantage on you, he would most likely stall and fall to his death.

When using a fighter I always use the tactic with the high flying and diving behind the enemy. For me it works. 90% of the time they notice me when it's too late.

Thes tactics are from Dicta Boelcke, a set of rules for flying aces written by Oswald Boelcke. These were considered fundamental tactics for aerial maneuvers.

Also, in WW1 many planes had SMGs such as the Villar Perosa or semi-autos like the Selbstlader 1916 mounted, and they only had a couple hundred rounds. Later they started to mount machine guns and could chew through all of their ammunition in only a couple of seconds. Thats why they only fired when they were close. They didn't have infinite ammo or fuel. Much of the time, they were aiming to kill the unprotected pilots not the wood and fabric planes.

I fly on PS4 and i have always been in the air when I a play battlefield , but on bf1 I can do what a want , their is no competition , the fun of air to air combat just isn't their , every game of operations I'm just destroying the opposit team and they don't even try to take me down , they don't know how to fly or to use the anti air weapons :) love your videos btw !!!

when I see you attack bombers, you tend to go where the "body" of the plane is. when I attack bombers, I focus on taking out one side of the wings, and both wings on either the left or right side. I feel this helps a lot when taking down bombers, and once that is accomplished, targeting the "body" is much easier. It throws off the judgement and accuracy of the tail gunner, making it easier to shoot down. just some tips I think would help you as a RU-vidr. good work

one thing you should keep in mind is that back in ww1 believe it or not pilots couldn't see their plane in 3rd person perspective so the amount of situational awareness of you have compared to them is off the damn charts.

Ive found a good tactic to instantly kill someone in a plane so you equip the bomber hunter loadout with the smaller fighter then use the speed boost to ram into the back of the plane then use the firework missles and insta kill

Dang, it appears that you have complete control over your plane. I'd like to think i'm pretty good at infantry and at ground vehicle gamyplay but when it comes to flying, i'm so rubbish. Q_Q

i noticed that when you are flying your screen never inverts like the sky is always up when i am flying when i roll the plane the whole screen moves how do you set up your flying so that the screen stays like yours does ?

hey matti, what sensitivity do you use for flying the plane ?? you seem to be able to move side to side rather fast, and you manage to keep amazing control while doing so.

Yeah it's a safe bet the tactics would hugely differ in rl😂 most of those planes were canvass and wood with a leaky old engine. They would have been downed super quick and the German triplanes manoeuvrability was to much for its frame in a dive or high G turn it was prone to tearing itself apart. Red Barron had one specially modified to combat that as he wanted to keep its superior turn radius and climb rate. The pilot and engine had no protection as the enemy bullets would pass through the fuselage like butter. Most of those planes were just flown taking a chance and hoping it would work the way it was meant to, it was the equivalent of the alpha phase in aerial combat. Absolutely love the history of aviation as my great gg was a mosquito bomber over Germany and my great uncle is an aviation engineer. Great vid and il be trying out some of your tips 👍

14:30 now height is almost always an advantage in dogfighting and I believe this applies in real life too.

Isnt he basically parroting a combat manual written by the Red Barry? I recall reading all of these tactics in a historical excerpt and while theyre all sound, they dont apply to BF.... Much in the same way that modern squad tactics dont apply to online FPS. I swear to god these instructions came from a real historical thing. Theyre all so familiar.

Is it your settings that make your plane turn so quickly and rotate on a dime? Im an xbox player and I have to rotate first with right stick then pull up on the right stick to make a turn. yours appear to be all in one motion. Please any tips would be much appreciated

the fighter was buffed way too much and does not take much skill at all. not trying to talk Shit, its just kinda true. the only plane that requires any skill is the bomber

If you run you give the other guy a chance to attack you. Shooting from range only works in game. In reality gunner is much harder. Even in other games like IL-2 Sturmovik series gunnery is much more challenging. You don't have the convenient aiming circle. I would advise against being complacent about being attacked from above. If your opponents aren't dropping you when they have an overwhelming energy advantage they suck. If you feel you can ignore "boom and zoom" attackers they don't know how to fly or the game engine isn't good enough. It's clear to me you've put some thought into adapting these rules to the game and your own play style. That is far better than simply repeating what you've heard elsewhere. This is good video so keep it up.

For me attacking ground targets are easy as hell. My typical load out is the Trench fighter. But I often find it very hard for me to take down other aircraft. Most of the time I'm always fighting much more skilled pilots than man and they knock me out of the air fast! It's almost a joke. Or the converse I'm matched up on servers where the pilots are way worse than me and they are push overs. It is very black and white for me.

I've been taking down fighters already have over 502 kills highest being the Dr.1 and Sopwith iv'e engaged enemy aircraft only not ground, my rules are fly high and catch them by surprise, if there are AA's take care of them first, if being chased flare and turn towards them, if after a fighter wait for the right time to get as much bullets into his machine, if after a bomber dump your trench fighter shots on the fuselage and only engage if you know you can win there are more experienced pilots out there and there's will always be one person more skilled than you

How is your plane turning withought your camera moving

Im a noob pilot (4 stars with the attack plane only) but for me its very difficult the dogfights, when a plane is chasing me i dont know how to take away from me, i do some random turns and change my fly direction but it doesnt work very well. And when im chasing another plane it go away from me very easily. I think if you do a tutorial about it it will be very very very (very) usefull. Sorry if my english is crap, im still learning. Lol these rules are called dicta Boelcke they was created by the founder and original first ace of ww1 Boelcke a German ace in Ww1 he also had faith in his pupil who would later out shine him in the war manfred von Richthofen also known as the red Barron these rules set the grounds of dogfighting and are still being used today

They really need to remove the self repair and quick repair function for vehicles it's way too op.
