Yeah Matt, it's definitely time to do a "What Happun?" on Battlefield 2042. It definitively needs one.

I ended up getting the game, and while I enjoyed it, it just wasn't as good as 1, plus I didn't like the fact that they took an actual event with a team of Norwegian commandos that took down an entire heavy water facility without firing a single shot, and replaced the team with a mother-daughter duo. Like come on man, if you want to use women in a WWII game, either do the actual stories with women in them, or just make up a mission that COULD have happened, don't replace stories with actual soldiers who risked their lives.

Watching this now, it's hillarious seeing time repeat itself, even if for a different reason

Okay, you have to mention the fact that despite saying women DID serve in ww2, DICE did not include any of the militaries or factions that had women in it. There were no Soviets, Partisans, Chinese Forces (until way later), French Resistance, Polish Armja Krajowa or any other faction that historically DID include women. Instead, the women focused missions that they did had instead chose to erase the real life heroic deeds of the Norwegian resistance by replacing them with a fictional civilian mother and daughter duo.

ya know i dont think the female character thing would have gone near as bad if they had 1. used the real woman who fought in the war or 2. set it in a fictional event during world war 2

It was more than just the woman thing. That was just what the company focussed on as a meat shield to ignore all the other complaints people had about the cosmetics and tone.

They didn’t have to butcher accuracy to get women in. The Russians had an all female sniper unit in ww2 that had an astonishing kill count.

It's funny because now all the 2042 hate has people praising BF5 like it wasn't an absolute mess that has been minimally updated.

You forgot to mentioned that even after Battlefront2 got great, they stopped supporting it because Battlefield V sucks in their eyes

The numbering alone on this series can be apart of a "Wha Huppun?" I know why it's numbered that way, but goddamn though! (They'll introduce Darth Talon or Mara Jade once they actually get introduced into canon, but after Ahsoka, like how was she not in BF2?! lol)

The thing is that it wasn't just that women were in the game... It was that there was a British woman with a prosthetic arm, a barbed-wired cricket bat, and blue face paint in the game. It looks stupid. It is stupid. It isn't historical. It really confused the tone of what the game was supposed t be going for.

I guess it never got a "It's good now" patch so the people who didn't like it and didn't buy it at launch, didn't like it and didn't buy it ever.

I'm not surprised that you like so many others misrepresented the problems people had with the unhistoric shoehorning of women into the game while calling people "uneducated" when they pointed out that women didn't fight on a particular front or battle. Black women didn't fight on the front lines for the US army period. That is a fact that cannot be refuted. You see women fighting in battles on fronts they never fought in. Dice could have avoided this by saying from the beginning that they were throwing historical accuracy out of the window. Instead of the infamous "uneducated lul" comment made by that simpleton. Or that horseshit story he told about his daughter, that I don't believe. It's interesting that people who never played the battlefield series and know nothing of the previous games are so sure that battlefield never took historical accuracy seriously. At least you avoided the pitfall that many stupid people fell into by comparing game mechanics to historical elements as if that is a good point or own.

The reason Firestorm was abandoned was because Criterion was originally the ones doing Firestorm, the same Criterion from Battlefront 2. When Firestorm was released EA most likely put Criterion somewhere else and gave Firestorm over to Dice. They pushed out the small changes Criterion had made to the map and then called it a day, right after they threw away Duo's of course to try and save the queues saying it would "come back" eventually as events, they never did. So Dice was left with both BF5 base game, 2 other game modes AND Firestorm which was behind a paywall. A fucking disaster

You completely missed the whole "if you don't like what we did with the game, don't buy it" "we're always on the right side of history" schtick that one of the devs made. That was also a HUGE factor in why no one bought it. It wasn't just "oh there were women" it was the gamers being treated like babies and told to fuck off if they pointed out the hypocricy. Hell it's why i've never touched the game.

"prided itself on historical accuracy" is pretty untrue when it comes to both bf1 and bfv, bf1's uniforms were a total mess, and, although less so, was the fact that they gave EVERYONE AN AUTOMATIC GUN.

BF4 managed to recover from its abysmal beginnings and is still popular today, BFV was a steaming garbage dumpster fire at the start and is still a steaming garbage dumpster fire now

If they have made the game's setting a fictional war instead of WW2. I doubt there would have been a huge backlash to this game. If they wanted to add nonsensical characters and cosmetics when they should've also made the game's tune match that instead going with the super dark retelling of WW2

The issue with EA is the people making the decisions aren't the people getting fired so they just keep making the same mistakes over and over again

I'm glad it didn't do well. You don't insult and utterly disrespect your playerbase like that and then tell them not to buy the game and then expect it to succeed.

Well to be honest the big reason why so many fans disliked the first trailer wasn't mainly because of women(though that certainly was a factor). It was mainly because of historical inauthenticity, something that BF1 never had a problem with. It is one thing to see a woman in soldier uniform and absolutely another to see a woman with mechanical arms and facepainting in battle. The marketing simply didn't preset the game correctly and the game itself had a lot of problems with being authentic to WW2.

Ah yes, I do remember storming the beaches of Normandy alongside a team of stronk empowered womyn of color equipped with dieselpunk prosthetics and katana swords.

I actually legitimately get the grievances... but I also really did enjoy the gameplay. It never felt like it was a game ruined by major flaws, more a death of a thousand cuts.

I'm sure 2042 turned out great and is beloved by fans and developers alike.....right?

This just made me wish Battlefield 1 servers were still populated.

For me, while "miffed" at the Girl power, unrealistic, and, well, just weird trailer I still thought it may not suck...maybe. THEEENNN Trevor Noah wheels his big ol' ears onstage for the Game demonstration & Reveal. I bailed then and there. I hate him for being fake, pompous and self righteous, BEFORE he replaced Daddy Stewart in the Daily Show. And HERE he was, obviously shilling for EA and this weird Steam Punk version of WW2. Billing it as an authentic Battle field Experience. Nope, bailed then and there. In fact I bought an X-Box One X and all they had left was the BFV version. People had bought ALL the FO76 versions, and left the BFV edition behind. I actually looked for a FO76 X Box. Imagine that! I wanted THAT dumpster fire over this one. It was free and I still hated it and wanted a refund!

I'm from the distant future. Battlefield has gotten worse. Much worse, in fact. This is because Battlefield 2042 makes Battlefield V look like a glorified masterpiece in comparison. 2042 needs a What Happened episode asap.

I returned it the same day, and the GameStop cashier didn't even care that I already played it, he was just like, "Yeah, this game sucks, I don't blame you for returning it." I got Modern Warfare instead.

Battlefield V was teased and torn apart, its launch was flaccid, it had some mediocre fun for a while, and then they decided to go against all of the fans say and patch the game to require a million bullets to kill someone. This game stunk from the start and fizzled out as a fart. I love the battlefield series, but this game was awful. you can still see the stink lines on it.

Yeah women did not fight on the frontlines in WW2 as official soldiers. The only ones who did fight were conscripts due to low manpower (Soviet Union) or were civilian partisans (France) But at the same time, you were more likely to find children on the battlefield than women, such as the case of the Hitler youth and I don't think anybody would want to be shooting children

Women in WWII is one thing. It was extremely rare for women to serve as front line soldiers but not 100% unheard of...female amputees, hell any amputee?! That’s what I found really fucking dumb but I don’t really play battlefield so it didn’t affect me.
