This is a brief summary of Hippolyte Bayard's direct positive process and some of my initial tests comparing variations on the original formulas on unsized paper stock. These tests are based on accounts of the process as recorded in November 1839 for the Academie des Beaux Arts, and contemporary surveys published by Tania Passafiume et al.

Subscribed! This process has been on my 'one day...' list for some time. Bayard was cruelly sidelined from his place in photographic history.

Thanks for subscribe and the support! It always makes me happy when folks get value out of the thing I share. Good luck and have fun with it! And yes, he definitely was. Shining some light on Bayard is a sort of karmic mission for me in some ways. He was much more than the narrative that survives would imply. We'll fix that. Thanks again for your support.

A very nice video of an interesting process. TFS and best of luck for future experiments.

I adopted this method to do a contact print of a paper positive and it did produce a positive image albeit faint. More experimentation is needed on my part obviously to get better results but I guess this process requires a very long scale positive for contact printing.

An interesting experiment. I haven't tested this as a printing process. I'm interested in it as a direct in-camera process as it was originally used but using it as a printing process from positives definitely has potential for interesting results. I'm unsure what qualities the negative would need though. Do let me know if you make progress. Always interested to hear things like that.
