We actually can't hear it through the video, but when this piece is performed the trumpets are placed all around the theater, at every single corner. You can literally hear the sound coming from everywhere. As the music is escalating you feel like something glorious and disastrous is surrounding you. Great addition from the composer
Hans Zimmer does something similar with French horns in the Dark Knight and Inception soundtracks... the way this choir is positioned high above the floor is also impressive. I must see a live performance.
I am sure some Murican is gonna show up and say that it's roughly 3elephants, 4bricks, 2 sticks, and 5 warts weight in "freedom units". "- Muuurica f*beep* yeah!" >_>
Until I blew out my shoulder during a rehearsal of the second movement of Beethoven's 3rd, I was like that. I figured if I wasn't feeling it, the orchestra wouldn't either
If anyone ever says classical music is boring. This is what you show them! I don’t care how good the artists of today are, this conveys power and emotion like no other.
I was lucky enough to enjoy Verdis Messa da Requiem live this week. I had tears in my eyes. It was FANTASTIC!!!!!!! I'm still really hyped up. I wished, everyone would have the chance to hear it live.
It gives me goosebumps just listening to a recording too, the trumpet part starting at 2:25 had to be one of the most spectacular musical performances in history to experience live.
Listened to Beethoven's 9th 1,000 times, listened to Mozart's Requiem 500 times, listened to Bach's Mass in B minor and his Passion just as much, listened to ALL genres of music, but I must say that from 2:25 through 4:10 has to be the MOST powerful piece of music in history!!!
Saludos
Patrick Lassene Just listened to the Tuba Mirum. I did think it was a good and powerful piece....and I started to goose bumps, but it just didn't build me up like the horn section in Verdi's Requiem.
@@viniciusmagnoni6492 it’s still a period of classical composition just as the baroque, medieval and renaissance, the true “classical” period is considered 1750-1830 but this is still a classical romantic composition
I sang soprano in this with my choir. It was an unforgettable experience. The orchestra is very impressive but the real stars of Verdi's requiem are not the solists nor the musicians but the choir. When we had finished the requiem people applauded like crazy whenever it was our turn to bow.
I woulnd do that. You dont want your soul to feel the vibrations of any Requiem out there. These legends didnt just make music. There are doors that you walk in pushed by the force of some music developments. Requiems dont push your soul to nice doors. Just sayin, what do I know? Am just another human talking crazy.
‘Dies Irae’ (literally, Day of Wrath) is a medieval Latin poem, and one of the most famous melodies of the Gregorian Chant. In its original form, it’s a four-note melody describing Judgment Day, the Christian day when humanity will come before God to receive judgment. The song was composed by Verdi, an Italian composer. The lyrics are in Latin Lyrics: Dies iræ, dies illa Dies iræ, dies illa Solvet sæclum in favilla Teste David cum Sibylla Quantus tremor est futurus Quando iudex est venturus Cuncta stricte discussurus Dies iræ, dies illa Dies iræ, dies illa Solvet sæclum in favilla Teste David cum Sibylla Quantus tremor est futurus Quando iudex est venturus Cuncta stricte discussurus Quantus tremor est futurus Dies iræ, dies illa Dies iræ, dies illa Quantus tremor est futurus Dies iræ, dies illa Dies iræ, dies illa Quantus tremor est futurus Quantus tremor est futurus Quando iudex est venturus Cuncta stricte discussurus Cuncta stricte (cuncta stricte) Stricte discussurus Cuncta stricte (cuncta stricte) Stricte discussurus The English translation is: The day of wrath, that day Will break up the world into ash As testified by David and the Sybil The day of wrath, the day of wrath, that day Will break up the world into ash The day of wrath, that day Will break up the world into ash As testified by David and the Sybil. The day of wrath, the day of wrath, that day Will break up the world into ash Will break up the world into ash As testified by David and the Sybil The day of wrath, the day of wrath, the day of wrath How much trembling there will be When the judge comes And strictly examines all things
I was lucky enough to perform this as 4th horn in a youth symphony orchestra. I get shivers just listening to it. Being part of this was definitely something else!
I have been singing this peace quite often as a professional chorister (tenor). The most challenging moment was always at 3:26, where you have to produce your loudest tone - and no one will notice. But the reward comes with the high b at 4:02 😇😊
I imagine that railing behind the conductor is to prevent him from falling into the audience, but I had to think of it as a Faraday Cage... - the amount of tension in the air almost makes me expect lightning, and he surely is at the center of it all.
@@codywilkinson3042 hey cody- just wanted to let you know that im also like this, wondering about random people's lives because of their comments from long ago...anyways, how's your life? remember this comment?
You can tell this is a real cris de coeur from Verdi, all his pain and angst comes flooding out in this beautiful movement. I never cease to be amazed by it's poignancy and violence, it hits me in the heart every time.
It's a piece in which the composer was clever enough to bring out the density of the chord structure. This work is very intense dynamically and couldn't have been pulled off any better. Unless you are Carolina Crown. XD To anyone who watches DCI!
Bruh... The resolved chored that happens almost exactly on 1:00 on this video, the articulation that CC does is perfect for me. But I haven't been able to find it on the actual version which is disappointing also I just like their version better because to me it seems cleaner. I guess it's because I like simple textbook things
Imagine you’re standing alone atop a tall rock on a ragged solitary beach. The worst sea storm imaginable is thrashing the waves against the shore and rocks you stand upon as thunder and rain pelts against your body and face. But then, an unknown force compels you to raise your arms up and hold your open hands above you head as if preparing to hold up the sky itself. As you do, two great streaks of lighting crack down and strike into your palms, yet you feel nothing but invigoration. The streaks of energy don’t stop as the sparks pool in your palms and a hurricane of wind and water begins to swirl around you as you feel the storm and sea bending to your will. And in that moment, lighting charging through your veins and salty spray blinding your eyes, you laugh so hard and manically you frighten yourself. Yet you enjoy it, and carry on anyway. That’s this song. That’s the feeling.
I would die for Verdi‘s Requiem! It is so gorgeous and so breathtaking! I can always cry and be happy while listening the Dies irae! The Lacrimosa is also a part where you think why you are living! This Requiem should show us the meaning of life and death like all Requiem e.g. Brahms German Requiem!
This sounds like the day or wrath. Mozart sounds like a funeral, his version is beautiful but it isn't the world being consumed by a Raging fire. This is
It's the antiphonal offstage trumpets at 3:30 that seem to add another dimension, as if one is needed! Brass section are epic in this performance. Fond memories of playing this 25 odd years ago with the soprano soloist who had a strange technique of wobbling her head for extra vibrato. Had us in stitches.
Just saw this last night at the Kennedy Center and it is an incredible spectacle to experience. The echoing reverberations of the choir and orchestra add to the sudden jarring crescendo of the chorus, and I honestly could start to actually feel a bit of what Verdi was trying to achieve in his lyrics. A recording simply can not do this piece justice.
"Now, give them a proper Hellsing welcome!" "So... a mountain of over-the-top violence, swearing and unnecessary screaming?" "Exactement." " *Oui Fucking Monsieur!* " _Music Begins_
To me the tuba mirum is the song of the Rohirrim charging on the fields of Pelennor. Everything fits so well, the distant trumpets getting louder and louder, and then the spine chilling percussions of the 6000 horsemen charging... Ride for ruins and the world's ending !
Uno de los mayores subidones de la música clásica, si no el qué más. De haber conocido antes a Verdi, cuanto me hubiera ahorrado en copas y discotecas. Bestial!!
there is something about this particular performance that has affected me so intensely for the first time with this piece. I can truly imagine the terror this would put in someone hearing it for the first time, 150 years ago in a church.
