First broadcasted on July 25, 2015.
A diamond-smuggling pipeline leads Bond to New York and Las Vegas. Who is ‘ABC?’ What is Tiffany’s secret? Stars Toby Stephens.
An all-star Ian Fleming James Bond adventure, directed by Martin Jarvis and starring Toby Stephens as 007.
Fleming's fourth Bond novel is especially dazzling. Its dark humour encompasses millions of pounds worth of diamonds smuggled out of British mines in Africa. Responsible? Somebody known as ‘ABC.’ James Bond is sent undercover by MI6 to New York to follow the pipeline. Masquerading as a courier he meets enticing, ice-cold, Tiffany Case. She stands between Bond and gang-bosses whose criminal diamond business stretches from Sierra Leone, via London, to the gambling tables of Las Vegas.
Bond infiltrates the mob. Horse-racing scams, a car chase, a rigged card game, pursuit by locomotive - Bond and Tiffany endure all. Eventually flown to West Africa, Bond unmasks the ultimate villain.
Archie Scottney’s dramatisation parades a bizarre collection of mafiosi monsters.

The one fly in the ointment of this adaptation is the absence of the scorpion from the start of the story.

Love these BBC plays of the Bond novels. They are good refreshers after reading the books. Like the fact that they are faithful adaptations to what Fleming wrote.

Partly agree . I always thought Leslie Charteris who wrote The Saint books was far better as a writer . Just as stylish and very witty .

Toby Stephens was a Bond villain in Die Another Die before he would play Bond in these awesome radio dramas!

Joanna Lumley narrated an abridged version of this about 25 years ago. She does a good job. Although my favourite abridged narrations are read by Richard E Grant. He's superb. PS thanks for posting 😊

Stacy Keach still pluggin away doing voice overs and acting on TV at 78yo. This guy turned into a lizard after smoking weed in a Cheech & Chong movie.

An absolute must watch performance from Keach is the alcoholic boxer in Fat City. The film is in a class of it's own.

Spectreville was Fleming's invention but there is a ghost town named Rhyolite in Nevada.

Based on/inspired by it? In YOLT I saw the Garden of Death to be Fleming's take on Japan's suicide forest.

Yes most of Flemmings villans are some sort og deviant to the majority. Be it physical, mental or sexual

@@crimsondeath7468 Goldfinger - implied impotent Odd Job - No sex.. likes to eat cats Scaramanga - theorised repressed homosexual Drax - very ugly.. no girlfriend even though super wealthy Grant - Serial Killer, but not sexually motivated Blofeld - No libido Dr No - sadist with no hands.. into bird dung and slave labour There seems to be a pattern here. Flemming is neutering the enemy. Worthy of psychoanalysis I think. I hadn't really noticed until I saw your comment. Largo and Count Lippe are the only bad guys i can think of that are described as being appealing to women.
