Martin Lewis opting to wear a Christmas sweater under his blazer at 4.15, stressing the point that it was fucking perishing. No doubt a steaming cup of bovril was close to hand as he bravely fought off the chill of the studio lights. Surprised his face hadn't started to melt.

you put enough doubt in my mind for me to check the tape. They generally only were seen above the desk in those days. One once admitted to wearing a shirt, tie, jacket and .... jeans.

The BBC at this point was 16 days away from possibly the most important single day in its history, certainly in the top five. Network announcer is Andy Cartledge. 'Day To Day' was the original name for 'Kilroy', but may of course have partially inspired something else. And will we ever see such weather again in this country? We haven't since (only 1991 came even remotely close).

What was so special about 29 January 1987? or "16 days away from possibly the most important single day" as you put it

There's no bulletin at 11am, so my money's on him having a catastrophic accident with a coffee and danish pastry
