This customer bought a used RV from a used car lot. He was told that everything worked, but I doubt very seriously whether the dealership had it checked out before selling it to this gentleman. Apparently, it didn’t get winterized, because the Suburban tankless water heater had a pretty big leak. Did it before the car lot got it or after. Hard to say.

If you haven’t done so yet, you should advertise doing used RV inspections. No better qualified person than a tech that’s seen it all and fixed it!

Better yet, don't bother with RV specific water heaters. For slightly more than I paid for the worthless Fogatti RV tankless (Same as Girard, RecPro, etc.) get a REAL tankless that is not prohibited from RV/mobile home use....a Takagi or AO Smith (They are exactly the same with different labels) condensing propane tankless. Mine gives rock steady temps, no endless error codes and other issues, and NO 20 minute "safety" shutdown timer. Only drawback? It must have 120v AC power, but a small true sinewave inverter or solar setup will power it for boondocking. And it won't freeze up.

That Suburban water heater has a built in freeze dump valve, if you have battery power and you installed the two drain hoses. That model is right there with the Truma. The only thing it's missing is the recirculating pump.
@hillbillyrv
@hillbillyrv 15 дней назад
It had the drain hoses on it. So if it had power, it will sense the cold and dump the water out of the heat exchanger? I did not know that.

That doesn’t look cheap. Thanks for the video, Kenny. Seems like the potential buyer could call you and have you check out the camper for sale. Probably cheaper than replacing a bunch of broken equipment.

Another lack of winterization after all tankless does not need to be winterized right! At least the lack of winterization is not this customers issue since you seem to lead us to believe he bought that recently from a car lot.......

I've got the Suburban and it works great for me. You need the external temperature control, pick your favorite temp like 108°, then just use the hot water, no cold. If you don't have the temperature control, the default is 120° and you have to mix cold water. That creates a flow problem and the wh goes from lobster to polar bear. They are not boondock friendly, you'll fill the grey tank pretty quickly.

I am not a fan of tankless to long of a delay we never run out of hot water with our 12 gal. Traditional heater and it can run on electric or gas
