After Bea already said she had ‘that voice’ as a child, he asks if it’s a smokers voice. It could have been a question from Rose. And Dorothy would have answered: “Yes, I smoked like a chimney when I was 4.”

Bea Arthur was so gracious to these two undeserving interviewers. Clearly they have not done their research on Bea Arthur as they didn't even know about her Maude hit sitcom series. Granted that it probably did not air in their county but still a little homework would have went a long way in this interview. Bless Bea's heart she was still so gracious to them. Maude was shown in the UK in the seventies which was the first time I saw Bea Arthur and became an instant fan. I also remember the sketch the Golden Girls cast did on the Royal Variety Performance show in front of the royal family, so she was gracious indeed when the interviewers didn't seem to be well researched. Sadly, the male interviewer has a reputation for not listening to the responses and asking and or making inappropriate questions/comments

@uberdude2555
@uberdude2555 2 года назад
Did you know all that stuff back in 1995? It's easy to criticise in modern times when we all have Wikipedia and access to gigabytes of data collated about Bea Arthur over decades, also you really expect Richard and Judy to know who has performed at every single Royal Variety performance?
@joshsnyder4119
@joshsnyder4119 2 года назад
@@uberdude2555 No I would not expect Richard and Judy to know who has performed at every single Royal Variety performance. I would expect them to know about Beas performance, you know since she is the one being interviewed. Even in 1995 reporters knew how to do research. This was a distasteful interview.
@uberdude2555
@uberdude2555 2 года назад
@@joshsnyder4119 The fact is Bea Arther was widely known in the UK exclusively for her role in The Golden Girls, Maud was not broadcast in the UK when it first aired, and even reruns that were broadcast decades later never appeared on any of the main terrestrial TV channels. Yes Richard and Judy could have used researchers to make them appear more knowledgeable about Beas performances than they were, however I see nothing wrong with reflecting what 99.99% of the audience watching knew about Bea and building upon that by unscripted questioning. I understand Bea enjoyed spending time in the UK and was a fan of Richard and Judy so she must have been comfortable with their interview style. I therefore doubt Bea was offended, it's only the Captain Hindsight Google nerds of 2021 that get perpetually offended by everything.
@joshsnyder4119
@joshsnyder4119 2 года назад
@@uberdude2555 I don't think she was offended at all. I think she handled them with class. That was how she was. I agree with you that yes everyone gets offended nowadays. If someone has a different opinion they get the 3rd degree. Unfortunately that is due to the dumb downed society we live in now. I'm glad you feel they did a great job interviewing her. I respect your opinion. In my opinion it was a distasteful interview. Fortunately there are others far superior to this one.

Bea Arthur was smart enough to call time on "The Golden Girls" after seven successful years. She realized that had the show continued any longer, it would have been repeating itself and not bringing anything fresh and new which is what happens to all long running shows that have been on the air after a certain period of time. I know Bea was seventy in 1992 and ready to retire her Dorothy character who 60-62, but she’s still so youthful and sharp at 73. The Golden Girls could’ve lasted for ten seasons, not just seven.

I agree but as she says... after 20 years of sitcom she needed to stop.

This man was a horrible interviewer and seems a little bit insulting at times so I loved it when Bea would snap back with her sass lol "Richard whoooo? Hahahaha I loved it!

This interview shouldn't of happened. The interviewers seemed ill informed. And it made her look like she had an attitude (but I know her as Dorothy so that could very well be why) like why? Just why?

hey, what an interesting information: Bea has played roles written by Renée Taylor. How cool is that?! A mashup between the Golden Girls and the Nanny would have been so great!

I'm sorry but they're interviewing Beatrice Arthur and they don't know about Maude? For the fans out there! Beatrice Arthur (born Bernice Frankel; May 13, 1922 - April 25, 2009) We miss you sweetheart! 😥

They were good. Softball questions by interviewers are lame and wimpy. They asked she told. Got a lot out of the interview and that is what an interview is about. Too bad if it gets awkward at times. Not really there to protect the guest. And they remained very nice through it all.

Well she did smoke. I just don’t know how much of the depth or voice was smoking though. I think she’s always had a deep voice, but not that deep if not for cigarettes and all the singing and stage acting and aging.
