She's said before she eventually wants to be a kindergarten teacher, imagine being one of her students and then when you're older you realize you had HOLY CRAP I HAD A ROCK GODDESS AS MY KINDERGARTEN TEACHER like how frickin cool I'm already jealous of those kids
I’m just loving how she nails that 90s aesthetic. Seriously. If this came out in 1999, every alternative rock radio station would be playing this. It totally fits in with songs of that era too. Do a search for “alternative rock 1999” and shuffle. If you don’t get any nu-metal bullshit or electronica, you’ll probably find yourself listening to an alternative rock song. And it fits in. Props to her.
I wouldn't say 99, it sounds more like early 90s. But yes, I love that aesthetic. That must be why I'm so enthusiastic about her music, because it reminds me so much of the 90s, one of my favourite decades in music.
Usually I hate the whole bring back the 90s stuff, because people chuck on colourful clothes and put a VHS filter on and go “the 90s were so cool man”, but this is a genuinely good throwback without trying too hard
It's funny how much back and forth between 90s and 2000s influences are being cited here, since the chorus instantly brings "Miserable" by Lit to mind, a 1999 song. Either way, I've been binging and this is all good stuff!
Man i just think sometimes.. WHERE was Bea when I was growing up in the early 2000's-2010's. Being asian, filipino and into alt/rock, it's a different seeing someone up there who's living your teenage fantasies having them look like you! She makes me feel like i'm 14 again banging my head to All American Rejects and Smashing Pumpkins and sending out flyers for people to join my band HAHAHA
lyrics: It's been a while since I've talked about it Maybe it's time to cooperate I need some help to forget about it I don't want your sympathy Stop saying you give a shit 'Cause you don't really Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah It's been a while since I've thought about it Maybe it's time to communicate I was seven, to think about it It’s the fact, I still can't forget about it I don't want your sympathy I guess I've had it rough But you don't really Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah Oh, by the way I'm still the same, I'm still the same But are you the same? Oh, by the way I'm still the same, I'm still the same But are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Forget about it I don't want your sympathy I guess I've had it rough But you don't really Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah Care, care, care, yeah Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Oh You, you Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you the same? Are you? Thank you!
I put her music in the car and my dad said "Who is it? I think I've heard this before" and i said "Who do you think it is?" as a joke and his answer was..."I don't know, a singer from the 90s, I don't remember her name" lol
The same thing happened to my mother, she said she had known the song but I told her that it had been published a few days ago, the sound of the 90's in the song is incredible
As a Japanese 90s kid, I appreciate this type of energy. Reminds me of my childhood days. Kinda reminds me a lot of artists like Tommy Heavenly6 and The Brilliant Green (both Japanese artists).
Taiis Loves You she’s in the world top Spotify because of powfu, not her own music. Tell me if she wasn’t under rated why do her best songs such as ‘are you sure’ and ‘sun more often often’ have next to nothing views compared to death bed etc, lmao. She hardly gets credit for coffee and even then i don’t believe it should be the song that she gets remembered by. The space cadet ep was easily one of the best releases last year and apart from radio 1 playing it in the middle of the night half of it is basically unheard of which is a shame considering it’s such a refreshing take on indie and it’s great that bea is moving on from bedroom pop.
As probably one of the few 30 year olds in the comments... I can tell you this sounds pretty authentically 90's... Which I think was pretty clever as the lyrics are also pretty representative of that time (& obviously relevant to so many of us now too... But the 90's was really the start of angsty lyrics for those of us screaming to be heard) Great song hun... Well done 🌹🌈🔆
PS. Visually I'm glad you used a roof shot :-p The amount of music videos shot on rooftops back then :-p Real pleasure to have watched/listened to this hun ❤
Fellow 30 year old (will be 34 in a few days) and will agree. A lot of music tries, but doesn’t quite hit it. This one definitely draws me back to female rock artists of the 90s - maybe it’s the vocal tones, guitars, mixing - it definitely hits whatever it is referencing. It’s more Natalie Imbruglia than Alanis Morissette if you had to pin a reference, hovering towards the soft but still has a little bit of attitude. The singer actually has a voice that is eerily similar to a The Primitives or maybe the Bangles, which were from the 80s.
Shes so underrated, everyone talking about powfu, but she was the original song, Coffee! Tisk tisk tisk... Edit: This is a different song to Coffee, but I still wanted to let yall know. ✌
People can't handle intelligent music. The irony that a dumbed down song sampling "Coffee" is the hit is just one more indicator that we live in a dumb world! Beabadoobee is seriously underrated!
@@slingerlandiamusicpublishi8495 its not a case of intelligence, powfu actually used the sample pretty well, do you consider this more intelligent because its not smart, its a catchy melody and draws from a lot of early 90's sounds like radioheads pablo honey and pixies doolittle but with L7 style lyrics
im bea’s fan for how many years now and i just arrived into a conclusion that “fake it flowers” is my favorite album of her, too sad that i didn’t have the chance to attend her concert here in manila, i was so excited to hear her live but anyway im happy that she enjoyed her time here
This totally takes me back to high school: late 90s, early 2000s, but sounds a little earlier than that, like the Clueless era (1995ish). I like the lyrics, the chords, and love the riffs that start at 1:43 and ends at 2:19. This track would also be amazing with just the music alone.
@@pastelhotmess9299 I feel depressed and excited at the same time. I am not living in U.S. or U.K. but i am seeing how some of the trends worldwide which were popular when i was a kid now could be seen as a vintage.
God it's refreshing to hear some new young bands with real guitars, drums, etc. that they can actually play live and weren't just generated on a computer. Love the sound, great song! Heard it on the radio last night and had to look you up.
This song is absolutely 90s, like it had appear between 1994 and 1998. The sound is nostalgic as hell. Sounds like Julianna Hatfield or Veruka Salt. Great song. Please, more song with this kind of sound.
I hate the typical YT comments like "underrated" or "this deserves millions of views" but I really think that this song really kick ass and deserves more recognition, if someone says to me this is from late 90s or early 2000 I would not doubt it, few artists of now could do that, respect!
But they could also argue that this is essentially 90s music, so it doesn't count. Heaps of music from every decade, subjectively sucks. But they all have subjectively good stuff too, including now (for pretty much all tastes).
To all those noticing the 90s/2000s vibes, from a press release by beabadoobee: "This song has end-of-a-’90s movie vibes, like you’re driving down a highway. It is pretty much me being angry at society, or people around me who I just don’t think know me and don’t care. I don’t want you to feel fucking sorry for me. I just want you to understand what I’ve been through. I never expected to be making the first video from my album during a pandemic! I was so lucky to be locked down with the bedroom guys, it feels like it turned out as one of the most personal, real videos I’ve made. I’m so excited to share it!"
More or less something along the lines of what I would have expected Lush to say - Miki Berenyi, no doubt; Emma Anderson also definitely. beabadoobee have that vibe and that personality.
Well goal achieved. I was driving down the highway yesterday when this came on. I thought it sounded great and was saying how this is so 90's sounding. I guess she hit the mark! haha

I love how when the '00s ended we swore we wouldn't repeat the trends and niches and now here we are 20 years later doing it, so beautifully I might add.
I still remember listening to this like yesterday still can't believe it's been 3 year i thought its like 4 years ago (2019) but man i miss this still remembered she has like 100k or 200k subs man time sure goes fast.
This song trips me out because my mind wants to keep relabeling it a 90's song, so i'll have past feelings and pictures with it but it was made this year! Thats the power of great music.
