Back in the summer of 1980.. my favorite movie ever, Caddyshack, was released. And saw this concert.. I will NEVER forget the summer of 1980. 22, the time of my life. All those years ago..
A superb Beach Boys performance. Great to see Denis hammering those drums. And Carl singing beautifully. At their best one the finest bands of their era. Rest in peace Denis and Carl. Thanks to all in the band for the magic of their music. 🏖️⛱️🏝️☀️
I love the every day life stories I love the awesome harmonies I love their commitment I love the songs of girls, cars, places I love the way Brian mixes & creats Some of the BEST SONGS OF EVERYDAY LIFE EVER! THESE STORIED SONGS WILL LIVE FOREVER WITH ME MY CLOUD WILL BE IN HARMONY WHILE I TWIST, SHAKE , DANCE & SING INTO ETERNITY THANK YOU BEACH BOYS ESPECIALLY BRIAN LIVE LONG & PROSPER
Carolwickowski7169 yo and I seem to appreciate the same values of the "boys". I'm writing a biography of Carl. It troubles me that so much has been left unsaid. If you answer me here, maybe we can arrange to talk. Thx
No one, I mean, NO ONE---ever pounded the drums like Dennis did. The man was absolutely awesome. ----------And Carl was always THE HEART of The Boys. -------------------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o almost 72 y/o
One of the best concert videos I’ve ever seen. Beach boys, though as oldies act vs the early 70’s, are perfect musically. Should be placed in the National treasure archives.
I never tire of seeing this ! I have the DVD------------seeing DW here-------the last time we saw him this good--------was so worth it ! The guys were great, & as always KUDOS to Carl ! --------MJL, 75 y/o
🙏🏻RIP Carl Wilson you rock the stage, great voice as well as a guitar player. You let your inter feelings flow out to all the people. I could fell you man you were one of the greats.✌🏻🙏🏻❤️👍🏻✌🏻✌🏻🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dennis is simply fantastic in this concert considering how his life was at this time . highly underrated. and often forgotten at how great he really was.
Anyone who doubts Dennis's talents just go out and buy Pacific Ocean Blue. It's one of the best of the BB members' solo efforts, and stands up against anything the boys did in the 1970s.
I just saw this again on Foxtel, and I can't help crying my eyes out when I see Dennis and Carl. I especially love it when they sing Surfer Girl with Brian - boy that is really sad that they are not all around still. I love the Beach Boys.
Folks, this was 39 years ago, this July. ----------we were ALL so much younger !! ---------I was 33 y/o, heading to 34. ----------------------WolfSky9, 72 y/o
Indeed he was. The most handsome too!! ♥♥♥ Looked like a fox in that green jacket. He was easily my favorite Beach Boy. But as far as this version of Sloop John B, Dennis perfected it on the drums, speeding the song up, giving it better rhythm.
@@reneep9972 Not at that point. Brian's voice went downhill in the 70s, but in the early and mid sixties he could easily cover most of the parts, and usually did in the studio before the rest of the band came in to record vocals
No, he's not a bad singer at all. Just a first class jerk. But at this point in 1980, he might be the best singer of the group although I'd still go with Al. Al still sounds good in 2018!! Brian sounded horrible here and looked totally disinterested.
@@reneep9972, Al is definitely the best singer now. It seems like his singing voice barely aged since the '60s. I have no idea what Mike sounds like now, he always uses vocal tuning.
I was at Knebworth in 1980, 19 years old now heading to 61, it was brilliant and the only concert I've ever been to. Myself, I wish I had been at the Chicago (CTA) Tanglewood Concert in 1972, loved "Wishing You Were Here" with the Beach Boys singing harmonies - Dick Clarks New Years Rocking Eve, 1974; RIP Terry Kath🌹
Holy cow, the boys are just absolutely rocking out like they have no right to do. Dennis' drumming is kind of unreal, so wildly unhinged but he almost manages to get it together for the downbeat. And Mike Love in all his shiny jacket weird-ass beautiful voice beauty. And Brian lurking with his lost voice. Then it just about completely goes off the rails on Sloop John B because Dennis must be coked up to the top of his skull and is playing faster and faster. This is a whole epic right here.
Note : Ed Cater is NOT playing Bass, but a " 2nd lead guitar", depending on the song. Bass is being done by Joe Chemay, who also adds vocals. ------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
Fascinating to see just how much Help Bruce needed to get back onstage, with the playlist being held & explained as he's onstage at the beginning. ---------He had been away longer than anyone realized, most of all, Bruce himself. ---------WolfSky9
Mike looks so much better when he wears a regular hat, instead of those ridiculous European golfing things ! -------here, he looks as good as he ever did. ----------------------Wolfsky9, 72 y/o
I was at this festival. Totally unappreciated the beach boys at the time. I had gone to see Santana and also never got over missing Led Zeppelin who played Knebworth in 1979.
Got there late missed Lindisfarne and The Blues Band but enjoyed Elkie Brooks blues band, Mike Oldfield, Santana and of course the fabulous Beach Boys.
Bald Mike Love wearing a baseball cap covering his BALD head. Love the lyrics about eating a hamburger and driving his hot rod to find surfer girls on the beach. That my friend is a quality lyric and maybe rivals Dylan and Lennon as the greatest rock n' roll lyricist. Then there is the lyric to God Only Knows - originally called "Girls Only Surf". It began "I may drive a hot rod, but only to the hamburger stand, I drive my hot rod, fast to find girls on the sand," You tell me if that song wouldn't; have been a smash hits with those lyrics. Don't F'ck with the formula, Brian.
This is awsome and I know there is an album for this concert and a movie this concert and I know the movie is released on dvd and the album has been released and the movie should be released on iTunes on December, 20, 2018
Al was singing Brian’s falsettos that night (found this out after hearing Bruce singing the “I wish they all could be California” and “God Only Knows what I’d be without you” at the end of both songs). Hope this helps
@@reneep9972 --Nasally singing was a big part of Surf Music....you hear other Surf bands like Jan & Dean, The Rip Cords, etc., doing it too. Mike's voice was (is) actually very Surf-sounding and was probably one of the reasons The BB's were popular in the 60s to begin with
Carl.. an angel's voice, impressive instrumental skills and pure natural serenity. Al, so genial and sympathetic. Dennis a force of nature. Brian a shy and withdrawn genius. And then Mike Love, constantly trying to draw all the attention to himself with his showboating and boring gestures. In tennis Love means zero. Just sayin'
The harmonies on point. The band is together, the music sounds great. All the voices are there, even Brian is there on piano in body but perhaps not soul. But I still can’t fucking stand Mike Love 😂 4:36
I think they to should have gone to India for a wile. Instead they went to the Netherlands and made the album Holland. All prettymuch the same thing to do.
MrJoeyBoombotz. You weren’t there. Dennis was driving the train that night. He was the soul of the band, and though his performance could be erratic at times, when he was on, it made all the difference.
