Very moving to hear them sing 'God Only Knows' with their brother. Carl sings the part so gracefully and Dennis kisses Brian as he sits down at the piano. Poor Dennis would be dead by 1983; Carl by 1998. They're such a beautifully tragic family.
I became hooked on the beach boys after this concert & discovered things about them I never knew. Blows my mine how great they were Carl singing God only knows makes me wanna cry!! RIP guys the tunes will live on :)
I think they’re ALL great in this concert ~ even Mike, who everyone seems to be ignoring!! Of course, Al & Bruce always do well too!!! Yes I know that Carl & Denny are great here also….but it took all of them to make the famous Beach Boys sound!! It will go down in history I have no doubt!! ❤️❤️😎😎💕💕
Carl just wailed in this show ! -----------And DW was in his best form in years & years. Sad knowing what was ahead for he & BW. -----------------------WolfSky9, 71 y/o
The best concert they ever did , Carl Wilson went from being a shy introvert to a confident hot guy . An amazing voice and the ability to keep things together in very trying times . Very underestimated, love him xxxx
Maybe their pinnacle as a live band. The most classic lineup plus a few excellent side musicians to fill out the band. Voices sound great. They all sound like they're enjoying themselves. Brian doesn't look in the best health but at least is there and doing his best.
in the early years Carl was super young and supposedly had a really pure and kiddy voice so they thought it wouldn't fit the songs, he didn't even turn twenty until after Pet Sounds was released, However, when his voice somehow became a bit more mature sounding (although still beautiful) he started getting more leads than anyone (as he deserved).
Yes, Carl was the youngest Beach Boy….so he had to play “catch up”!! Mike, on the other hand, is still the oldest BB!!! But, also Mike’s voice was iconic & different from the others + he co-wrote some of the lyrics!!! And Mike is still touring at 80 yrs old!!!! ❤️❤️😎😎. 2/2022
Hitch-hiked with friend Bruce from Malton in North Yorkshire. Nightmare journey but worth it. Lesson in photography never forgotten: check you've got a film in your camera! (would mean space on the memory card today.)
I know where malton is. when I was a trucker I once tried to climb Sutton bank @ 38 tonnes gross one dark night. needless to say I got stuck but managed to turn and get the hell off the hill with no damage to truck or anybody. never again. I had a load of seed potatos on a flatbed. it was a while before I told the boss about that night. where were you standing at the gig?
Anyone else notice how differently the BBS dress?? Al, Carl & Mike are in jackets ~ yet Bruce is in a short sleeve shirt!!! Just an observation!! I love this music!!! ❤️❤️🌈🌈💕💕
Wow Carl sounds great they all do even Brian. I never thought they sounded that great live. But this this was one of those specials. unless they did a little work on the side.. Accapella they sound great how fast everything fell apart right after this.. too bad. i'll have to get this.
Great upload, for whatever reason, as I Watch the available live shows of the band, the more and more it goes on Mike seems to patronize subtly any other singer that is apparently NOT him. Example: Nothing grinds my gears than having to say everyone's name and who just sang it almost immediately after it's done, like Carl will have just sang one of the greatest most iconic compositions in music and Mike comes in with "that's very pretty Carl," which , yes is true, but if you watch almost ANY live Beach Boy concert Mike's teetotaler ego must seethe when Al or Denny or Carl or Bruce even sings because even before the audience is done showering the band and performers with praise and applause Mike gets on Mic and says "Carl Wilson... GOD ONLY KNOWS" Or' Al Jardine , Help Me Rhonda, good job Al" And there is layers of genuineness there sure, but it sure sounds like someone who counts the mins before he can start talking again and hearing his own voice, I bet his Mantra is "Ahyih-Me-yah-Mahayn" ( George Harrison wrote a song that rhymes with that, something something "I, Me, Mine" ) Digressing lol--anyway Great upload great show, wonderful performances footage. I loved that precious kiss Dennis gave to big brother Brian , it was a very "proud of you brother, love you, keep being awesome, you got this!" (esp knowing Brian's general distaste for live shows at the time) still likely not as clean and sober seeking as he'd be in the late 80s early 90s and even more so after the invisible prison of Landy, which Carl with help from Melinda and the Wilson-brother's mother was able to initiate the investigation into his practices and got his psychiatry license revoked with an added restraining order. It just always warms my heart knowing the history and ups and downs , hitting hard at the battles that confronted them, and were there for each other in their own ways. /rant lol thanks for bearing with that, if you did. Love to you all
Darlin, God Only Knows. wow. Like how Carl smiles during GOK, like he knows how pretty it sounds. He said once that he and Brian when they first got started were amazed at the sound coming out of their speakers. what a great group. Funny how it rains right after GOK, like God was listening
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the two greatest songs they’re remembered for on their greatest album Pet Sounds, GOK and Good Vibrations, Carl sings the lead
While watching this I wondered if he felt a spiritual presence; especially, at the end when he said he hoped the rain was holy water. Hmm, God only knows!
les Beach Boys, c'est les Wilson accompagnés de Mike Love et Al Jardine. Mike Love sans les Wilson n'aurait jamais du utiliser le nom Beach Boys, c'est un total manque de respect pour le groupe.
He sounds fine to me. His growly/gruff voice is a put-on for more rocking numbers, if that's what you mean. He did shred his cords doing Wild Honey in the late 60's, but nothing permanent.
