Beach Fishing - Barton on Sea - pulley dropper rig comparison with up and over

Looking to repeat my PB small eye ray from the same venue. I take this opportunity to try out the pulley dropper rig that was requested on the channel and compare it to my favourite, the up and over.
I have plenty of bait but find out on the beach that most of it is still frozen. Luckily the sand eel defrost quicker than the rest and on they go.
The pairing of Century Fireblades and Penn 525 mag 3’s work well but I am still experimenting with reel position.
As with all of my videos I am open to positive comments, ideas and views.

Obviously I edit my films and I chop out tons of stuff. Mainly talking to myself or acting like an ass but I don’t hide anything and what you see is who I am. I’ll keep on mixing things up by trying stuff out or it will all get a bit stale. I enjoy trying these things out but if you asked me for my ultimate set up I think I already know.

Great vid and good to see you comparing the two rigs... Maybe need another session or two to make a fair comparison, and maybe when the winds aren't SE..... Even if just catching a multitude of tings this might help in the overall assessment of the rigs.... Nice to see you prepared to learn something new yourself and share that with us all 👍
@seaangling

I didn’t mention the wind direction but confident that it plays a role. It wasn’t a complete comparison and more of an early indication. I need to make a longer version of the pulley dropper.

Hi Mark... When you lower your reel ,you also have to change hands and control the reel with your left hand. Also with the imps , if you push the hook holder through to the opposite side of the link and put your hook in there you`ll find it keeps everything clipped so that you can ground cast . Good luck

Most of the tournament anglers use the tapered line both on multipliers and fixed spools. I would use I on cleaner ground or with a rotten bottom on rough ground. I use Trabucco 0.50mm for my shock leaders and rig bodies. My main line I've switched to Fisheagle monolith red mono in 15lb . Cheap line but lays and casts really well.

Great vid ,have subbed and enjoy your channel.Here in Australia we don't generally have to cast miles as our beaches are deep close in and the fish holding gutters are within easy casting range.Hence thee isn't a need for clip down rigs.Myself I use multipliers so thinking of trying your drop down pulley as it may make things more aerodynamic when it's windy.

It is a joy to use and very slick without the joining knot. The line is coloured at increments so you can see how far you have cast apart from counting turns. I think line discrimination will play a stronger part to maintain it as intended.

Good question and in short it is simply variation and I like trying different things out. I have swapped back to fixed spool for night time hound and ray fishing atm. My latest target species are sting rays and I’m off out in the small hours on another attempt. I’ll be using Century Fireblades and Daiwa BG’s for this. Try proper 'reel down' mate. Set the reel about 9-10 ins from the butt cap. Grip the reel with your left hand, upper hand should be about the distance you'd have between your hands in high reel. You'll find you can slow the cast down, spool grip is better, and the rod bends more! Try it. It's not for everyone, but once converted high reel feels a bit cack handed. Keep the vids coming!

I’m happy to strip, inspect, replace etc. It’s the sort of thing I enjoy doing. Beavering away in the workshop. 😉

i like the fact that you didnt have to a shockleader knot

I have been using ASSO Ultra-Cast mainline but another alternative is the Varivas Sport which is also popular. For shockleader I use either ASSO Ultra-flex or their tapered shock leaders. I was using the all in one tapered line/leader in this film which means no knots but haven’t gone back to it.
