Beach Fishing - Chesil Beach - Cod - 4/4

This video is one of 2 halfs with the first part spent in the workshop preparing for the session and then the second half fishing. I travel to the "big beach" that is Chesil with my buddy Chris Bucknill and the chance of a codling. The weather is still and we are in between storm fronts, hardly the conditions you would normally expect or target.
The session starts slow but as the light fails and rigs are changed, my luck changes and things start to happen

Another great video Mark, like the idea of putting a timeline in for people that want to jump straight to the fishing , which I didn't use btw. I do tend to take everything I've got everytime I go and do struggle with it all a s a result ha ha I'm like you a creature of habit , you take as little and I take ........................ It's also reassuring to see that even after all that you still managed to forget your big coat !! Something I would have and have done before. lol Tight lines from me , from here for now until next time.

Great video Mark. My prep is pretty much the same but one thing I do have is a mini first aid kit augmented by additional plasters and some antiseptic cream. You would be amazed at the number of times it has come in handy for other anglers!
@seaangling
@seaangling Год назад
Fair point reference the first aid kit, I have one in the van and one in the boat. I also carry lipseal, pain killers and bottles of water. Sounds a bit much but I’ve had similar experiences and they pack away out of sight. As for preparation I thought it would be worth sharing as everyone has their own way and it is rarely shown on videos.

I suppose the one rig that covers it all is a one up, one down. The match favourite is a 3 hook flapper or clipped. Otherwise it is species/tide/location specific.

Always nice to get new kit. There should be a nice set of instructions with guidance on how to set up. For side to side tension I like to have mine loose with the very smallest bit of side play. The other way which may be in the instructions is to attach a weight and release the spool. It should fall to the floor without over run. Adjust until balanced. The mag is full on when wound clockwise, I use 3 clicks out for night time and 4-5 clicks out for daytime. Hope that helps.

Hi Mark, this is what I am aspiring to! to be fully prepared and not forget anything. Because of my age and health I have to keep things to a minimum for carrying. I love your rig making videos, now I could easily be wrong but did you make a pulley rig, using Trident components, where you could use different sized detachable snoods? Keep up the good work mate.
@seaangling
@seaangling Год назад
There is a pulley rig video using Trident components. Those Trident components are now being sold in other places as well as the website which might make them easier to source. Detachable snoods are a nice way to go especially when the baiting routine is slow or the fishing is fast. 🎣🎣🎣👍🏻

Don’t expect you will remember, but you replied to me with your thoughts on a Penn CS, much appreciated, bought one last week, not used yet, as went to Chesil on Wednesday, but on arrival, totally unfishable, due to extreme wind, cast would land behind me ! ! ! , still will attempt another trip early next week, looking forward to using Keep the vids coming, go steady PS butt of rod first, for protection

@seaangling Год назад
Hi Derek, I am sure the reel will serve you well and I would puff it with something and wipe over with a soft cloth to store. I clean mine after use and spray with FS365 with a nice wipe over with a micro fibre cloth. They still look amazing after some hard use. Shame about your aborted trip, did you consider any alternatives in the area that are more sheltered? My standard settings for casting the CS are from full mag (fully clockwise) 3 or 4 clicks anti-clockwise for cautious and 5 clicks anti-clockwise to send it but this can start to lift. This will depend on line conditions but 3-4 clicks is a good starter for me.

Mixed views really and in short I felt the tip was too stiff and the middle too compliant for my style of fishing. I was struggling to spot a bite and the rod couldn’t be wound into a 5 oz grip weight without pulling it out. Perfect rods for hounds and rays but struggled with lighter species. Good quality rods with a poor rod bag. I fished them for a full season before deciding they weren’t for me.
