In this film I have had an invite from Callum and Shane from "Dorest Fishing Live". The target is the elusive flounder and the weather on this occasion is dire. Heavy rain and gusty winds are far from ideal for flounder fishing and spotting their tell-tale rattle bites.

Fished just over the the other side of the harbour on Friday night, not as tide dependant, no flounder though jsut a few bass, lots of crabs!, may have to give this side a go, great video mate!

I think wind plays as much of a part as tide and does seem to make a difference. Especially in the harbour/bay.

Hi Carl, I had the better run of codling here Aug/Sept and managed 4 trips with the largest caught at just over 5lb. I’m avoiding them for now and always target flounder in January and I’m enjoying the challenge. Take care and bumper catches. 🎣👍🏻

Some of my favourite catches are when a species has been targeted. The bait, rig and tides all come together and you get the intended result. 🎣🎣🎣👍🏻

Great Video, Fished about 500m down the road on Friday night in a Poole Dolphin fishing club night, just the 1 flounder and some small bass for me. Will be taking some of your tips and trying the popups next time, But it was good to meet you on Sunday Evening down there whilst giving the kids some freah air and walking the dogs. Nice meeting you and yours this evening. I will do films on both rigs I’ve used and this evenings film will be out soon. The 2 hook pop-up is particularly good where the mud is soft or there are ravenous crabs. The short snood 3 hook flapper works well on the harder bottom or where the tide is stronger. 🎣👍🏻

Another good place for parking near your rods if you can’t walk far is Milford On Sea. There are 2 car parks that are right next to the beach.

@@jonnygilbert233 interesting to see the American flounders or flukes as they call them grow much larger. I have seen them using small silver fish as live bait which does replicate the spoons we use here. Do they also use lures?

@@andycollings4302 last year the winning fish was an interesting catch. No flounder we’re caught all day and so in the last half hour the eventual winner baited a hook snood, clipped it onto his mainline and slid it down. That trick hooked the winning fish.

If it is the wire you saw that went in under the gills to turn the hook, I made it out of stainless TIG welding wire and bent it with round nose pliers.

Absolutely 💯. We were targeting flounder and that was the primary reason for being there. I am also a realist and there was little chance of excluding them as bycatch. All bass were released.

@@seaangling NO OFFENCE MEANT MARK, JUST ADVISORY. THE POOLE BAY SMALL BOAT ANGLERS HAD A FLOUNDER COMPETITION A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND MANAGED 2 FLOUNDERS FROM ABOUT 30 BOAT ANGLERS ,SO WELL DONE.

No offence taken but I rechecked the title and description and realise that might have been miss-leading. I removed “bass” from the title as the session was never about them but we expected they would appear. The conditions were very specific and I was tipped off that the flounder had appeared and it was fishing well. Local knowledge is key. 👍🏻🎣

Thought the bass restrictions in Poole run from April to November? And even then if from the shore you can target bass if you want but catch and release only?
