I feel like it is about two girls exchanging destinies. You have one girl that think life is nothing but accomplishments and then you have the other who loves people and does not really have goals but jealousy. And so they meet each other and exchange destinies. One is smarter and realizes right away that her accomplishments are nothing comparing to human feelings, the other thinks humans are nothing and decides to work hard on building a career with misery. Probably her sickness makes both stop a little, think a little.... and so on.
The interviewer seemed to be the one to set the tone and not really listening to both Bette and Barbara as they try to explain but keep getting interrupted by him. Annoying.
There was no evidence so naturally a friend of him would rather believe the man than someone who is accusing him. I mean if someone close to you gets accused of a crime and there is no proof, would you just be ”ok, bye”? Even though it can be true we tend to deny the truth when it’s too much. So I wouldn’t blame Bette for supporting someone close to her. If there were evidence it would be a whole different story. But without those it’s easy to just think ”no, I know him - he would never do that” The world is full of these stories. We never really know.
