Got My first grizzly in 1965. Took my first deer with this bow and It has never let me down. My dad laughed and said - Well the deer will be safe in the woods this year. You should of seen the look on his face when We drove in the yard with the deer in the back. A lot of memories have come and gone but the old GRIZZ is still ready to go when We hit the back woods.

The Grizzly is an great bow! I got a green 1974 at my own age, and I love it! Since the new models are still the same, I bet they are just as good!

Hello there . Want to start off by saying awesome reviews and content . Very informative. I have a 1964 grizzly. I love it . Shoots perfectly. The only gripe I have with it, is that I get major feather wear no matter how I fine tune nock height, or brace. I noticed in your video that you pointed out the flat shelf of that eras design. Before you put your other rest on did you have feather wear? Also after putting on the other shelf/rest did it help with that? Also what spine are you shooting from that bow with tip weight? Just curious so I can compare to my setup. Thank you for your time . Enjoy the day and stay warm in this winter season.

No. You typically shouldn’t see feather wear unless you have a pretty stiff arrow. Lots of shelf wear is a pretty good indication. What are your specs? Bow, draw, arrow length, spine, tip weight, etc?

Hmmm i figured with a good bareshaft and then feather wear it would be from the flat shelf of that era bow. I have the 1964 grizzly in zebra wood. It’s 44#@28” . My draw length is 30”. I am running a brace height of 7 3/4”. My nick height is 5/8 and I shoot the griz split finger. I have bareshafted 2 arrow setups. 600 spine with 7” wrap and 5” parabolic feathers running 190 upfront. I thought would be less point weight but that trying that was stiff until reached 190 grain. 2nd setup is 500 31” with 275 grain up front now wraps but 4.5” ozark feathers. Both setups bareshaft almost like a dart . I hope you can help !! Tired of replacing feather after 300 or so shots per arrow. Thank you for your help and time!

@@bryancheeseman1049 wow, those setups both sound pretty darn close. Certainly not drastically stiff or anything. I guess I really don’t have much else to offer other than trying a Bear Weather Rest. Typically cleans up arrow launch off the bow and minimizes contact.

I also prefer this era of Bear Grizzly, mid to late 1960s. The ruined the aesthetic when they rounded the back of the riser, in my opinion.

I heard that the Grizzly was a great first bow for those new to the sport of Archery. Is that true?

It’s a very solid affordable bow. So yes. Just start out with lower poundage

I really do make a conscious effort to try to support American made products and to my surprise the majority of these wooden bows being sold on Landcaster Archery or Amazon are all bows made in Asia. The only true reputable American brand I know is made by Fred bear and generally a wooden Recurve bow from them starts around $400 price point. Makes me wonder if there’s a genuine craftsmanship and quality difference from the cheap Amazon $200 Asian bows to something like a Fred bear recurve bow ? This is all stuff I need to do research on. What’s your thoughts on the subject is there a difference in quality and craftsmanship ??

Can of worms.... I love Bear but there are a lot of complaints the last 5-10 years about poor quality, delaminating limbs, finish flaking off, etc. Not sure if it’s legit or social media is bigger so we hear about it more. As for places like Lancaster, it’s my understanding that they do pay a Pittman-Robertson tax but I’m not certain. Like I point out in another video about the Kainokai recurve, yes, you (and the Amazon importer/seller) is avoiding paying P-R tax. BUT you will buy plenty more accessories throughout your archery or bowhunting career. If a cheap bow gets you into the sport but keeps you here and buying more stuff from companies that do contribute P-R monies, I see that as a win.
