It was July when we figured out we had a 2023 bear tag for our deer camp's zone. Our journey started in early September when we went to camp to bait for the hunt. Eric had bought a few hundred pounds of sweets and goodies. Filled a barrel with them all and chained it to a post we installed a few years back.
After a couple weeks the. bears found the barrel and slowly started to show up in on the bait. While the bears were taking their time showing up, we were watching cameras pretty regularly. While Eric and I were hunting Rob and Ryan were setting up a new deer hunting blind and Steve was cleaning the cabin.

Enjoyed the story. Very relatable! Hilarious with the dude in camp lifting his head each time the door slammed. Enjoyed all the wildlife from the trail cameras. We learned alot thru the years of bear hunting our u.p. camp too. Thanks for sharing the bear hunt with us !!

We bear and deer hunt the same area you guys do camp to camp we are 4.74 miles apart (yes u.p big woods long ways) we have shot alot of bears out of our camp over the years (we know the ex dnr well also). Get somewhere not open and near a water source. Also for future hunts i would limit the extra outdoor activities bears are smarter then you think i do get your 10+ hours away from camp so stuff does need to get done. We also sell bait out of IR and back home in WI. We could deliver bait right to the tracks. Our camp should draw 2 tags this year hopefully.
