Neighbors in Sierra Madre were rattled Thursday after a bear intruded into four homes and one garage before being diverted by police into the wildland, north of the city.
We're living in their "wild." Idk what that woman is talking about. We've encroached on their living space. It's kind of something you just understand if you live in Sierra Madre or don't move to the mountains...
I’m glad they got the bear to drop the chicken. Had it been a live chicken from someone’s backyard, then it would’ve been fine. This chicken comes from a processing plant and contains many more times the salmonella that a backyard chicken would have.
The idiots in these neighborhoods film the bears instead of hazing them. Thinking the bears are cute, they let the bears become increasingly comfortable around people. And when one of the bears kills one of their pets or their loved ones, they'll only have themselves to blame.
Chill the fk out dude. This is the bear's original habitat. We're the ones encroaching on their space. We can protect people and their pets while preserving our relationship with nature.
And they all complain about using bear resistant trash cans. Every week, there's trash in the streets from bears scavenging. Yes it's an added expense, but that's the cost of living so close to so much wildlife. On top of that, the police & wild life officials rarely want to show up. We've literally had them tell us "If it's not hurting anyone, there's no reason to go out there." I honestly think they're showing up lately because there's been so much news coverage this year.
This is a very seriously dangerous situation! Hungry grizzly bears are a dangerous threat to people & pets. Sounds like fish & game need to shrink the local bear population. Cute but deadly, especially breaking into houses!
The last grizzly bear in the region was killed in 1916. The last grizzly in California was killed in 1924. These are black bears which were introduced into the region in 1933. They are an invasive species in the Los Angeles area.
