In this video, I’m taking a look at the Philips Norelco Series 5000 Beard Trimmer 5500, Model BT5511/49.
Despite being new to the market, this Philips trimmer is an Amazon Choice Recommendation, ranking at #67 for the category of beard and mustache trimmers. It also holds an impressive 4.7 out of 5-star rating.
Now, I thought it would be especially valuable if I not only reviewed the Philips Beard Trimmer 5500, but also compared it to the Philips Norelco Series 5100 Beard and Head Trimmer.
These two beard trim devices are practically identical in features, and it’s likely you’d be choosing between the two for your beard trimming needs.
Philips touts the Series 5000 Beard and Stubble trimmer for its 40 length adjustable settings and DualCut steel blades.
Accompanying this Philips Series 5000 beard trimmer are a beard and stubble comb, short hair comb, long hair comb, charger, and brush
If you take a look at my previous video on the Philips 5100, you’ll notice that the Beard Trimmer 5500 is basically a new and improved model in the Series 5000 family.
While the Philips Norelco Series 5100 includes 3 beard and hair combs that work in combination with a built in zoom wheel, the Beard trimmer 5500 includes 3 identical combs that hold only slight variations in design and feature the same hair lift technology that guides hairs to the blade for efficient one pass trimming.
For beard and hair trimming, the Philips 5100 is capable of cutting at 34 length settings from 0.4mm to 13mm, while this Philips Series 5000 trimmer takes it up a notch, incorporating 40 precision length settings ranging from 0.4mm to 20mm.
You’ll notice an internal LED light that illuminates each increment on the Beard Trimmer 5500 as you turn its zoom wheel.
As far as battery life, the Philips Norelco Series 5100 Beard and Head Trimmer uses a Lithium-ion battery and requires 1hr of charge time for 70 minutes of cordless use.
However, this Philips 5000 Beard Trimmer outperforms, utilizing a lithium-ion battery that requires 1hr of charge time for 90 minutes of use.
The Philips Series 5000 also has a charging indicator light, which is absent from the Series 5100.
Both Philips trimmers can be used plugged in for continuous use.
The Series 5100 and Beard Trimmer Series 5000, along with their attachments, are both fully washable.
However, these Philips trimmers are only to be used in dry condition and cannot be used while bathing or in the shower.
Currently, the Philips Norelco Beard and Hair Trimmer Series 5100 sells on Amazon for around $49, while you’ll find the Beard Trimmer Series 5000 similarly priced around $48.
For this beard trim, I shorten up the sides of my beard, leaving a longer goatee and mustache. I trim under the neck line and around the face to get some nice crisp lines. I also work in some dimension by using just a few of the many settings available on these two beard trimming devices.
These are two great Philips beard trimmers, but there is a clear winner. Be sure to watch the video to find out the GroomReviews recommendation.

Good vid dude! hey I have a question, I'm starting to grow a pretty thick beard, and so I'm tired of razors, so what beard trimmer do you recommend me that's cheap, easy to use, durable and that has many functions that I could use to maybe also cut body and head hair?

The Multigroom 7000 comes with the pieces needed for creating that crisp, uniform look and for a thicker beard, like yours, you can interchange the beard and hair guards to trim at longer lengths or get down to that stubble look. Hey dude! Just found your channel. So legit! Quick Question. I don't grow very much and it's not very thick. This would be my first trimmer as well. Would you recommend the 5500 over the 7000 for simple stubble upkeep? Also, do the blades need to be replaced on the 5500 after some time? Thanks man!

For those trimming up the beard and detailing longer hair, I recommend the Multigroom 7000, however, when focused on that stubble look, I recommend the Philips Norelco Beard Trimmer 5500 (amzn.to/35Xit7M) or the Philips Norelco Series 5100 (amzn.to/32GlDe4). The Beard Trimmer 5500 is basically the updated version of the Series 5100, but I still enjoy the design of the Series 5100. Both are great stubble trimmers and even though the 5500 is the update model, I would recommend finding the best price when choosing between them. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching! All the best!

Thank you for the videos. I am looking for something of good quality like the 5500 with an adjustable lengths piece rather than having to deal with 4+ pieces putting on and off, and also a piece for super close shaving or a foil head for a clean neck finish. Why Philips isn't making a middle ground between the 5500 and the multgroom series beats me. I'm basically looking for a 5500 with a foil head attachment. What would you advise, maybe another brand of similar quality that provides that? Thank you!

Hi, Marwan. Unfortunately, I have not yet reviewed a product that meets all those specifications and I wouldn't recommend a product for you until I was able to test it out. That said, one product that I have tested that will get you a close stubble finish and is a completely integrated device without attachments is the Conair I-Stubble seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eHPLESt3zp8.html. If you only need to go up to 5mm in length, then this may be a good fit, as this is the max cutting height (amzn.to/2XL8du8). There is a Lithium-Ion version called the Super I-stubble, but it is about twice the cost on Amazon. I prefer the 5500 and 5100, but if you really hate having attachments, this might be what you're looking for. Hope this helps! Thanks, again, for watching and your support of the channel. Hi, im frank. For some reason, Philips Norelco describes this product with several different names. One of them is "Beard Trimmer 5500," which is printed on the front of their box.
