In this video, I’m giving you my full review of the Braun Series 9 Foil Shaver, Model 9290cc.
The Series 9 is Braun’s most advanced shaver, shaving more hair in one stroke than any other premium shaver. Braun touts this Series 9 trimmer as providing the world’s most efficient shave and being exceptionally gentle on your face.
For those that shave their beard every one to three days, the electric foil shaver and precision trimmer are the perfect combination to get the job done quickly and efficiently.
The Braun Series 9 foil shaver is packed with features, starting with its responsive intelligence that works with the unique features of your face to deliver the best shave possible. An advanced processing chip lies at the heart of the Series 9, analyzing beard density and selecting precise power to trim and shave effectively.
At first sight, the foil shaver head and its 5 synchronized shaving elements radiate from the Braun Series 9. Composing these elements are two central trimmers, two ultra-thin opti-foils, and a dedicated skin guard for shaving hair smoothly. These independent flexible cutting elements sit upon a 10-D pivoting head, creating optimal skin contact for a thorough shave.
Furthermore, a multi-head lock built into the Braun Series 9 allows you to lock the position of the shaver head into 5 unique positions. This is most beneficial when working in those tight beard areas, such as under the nose on the lip or along the jawline.
For total beard control, a precision trimmer hides discretely tucked away, ready to take care of longer hairs and finishing touches. The Series 9 Braun can be used to shave wet, dry, or with foam or gel for a flawless shave.
One of the best features of this Series 9 shaver is its ability to sense when the foil shaver head is in need of cleaning. Looking at the LED display, a water drop indicator illuminates when the trimmer is in need of a wash in the Clean & Charge station. Simply place the Braun Series 9 into the station and the Clean & Charge automatically selects the appropriate cleaning level for your electric shaver.
As far as charging capability, the Braun Series 9 Foil Shaver takes 60 minutes to charge for 50 minutes of use. This trimmer also has a 5 minute quick charge, good for one shave. Additionally, the Series 9 cannot be used plugged in, as the device is fully waterproof and intended for use in water up to 5 meters.
At a price right around $250 on Amazon, this Braun Series 9 shaver is expensive. That said, it stands up to its claims and works great. This trimmer is efficient, gentle, and feature rich. It provides a super smooth feel and was an enjoyable shave.
Overall, with the innovative responsive technology built into the Braun Series 9, you understand the need for the high price. If the Series 9 is within budget, definitely check it out. But for those on a budget, check out my video on the Remington F5-5800. It’s not as feature heavy as this Braun foil shaver, but it will get the job done at a much cheaper price.

I see other recommendations for body hair trimming in your comments, but do you have a recommendation for a specific trimmer that can be used for both beard trimming and body hair (including those nether regions) instead of getting more than 1 trimmer? I was looking at the Remington PG6171 and Phillips Norelco atm, thanks!

Hi, SYNc. Unfortunately, I have not found an all-around product yet that is best for face, head, body and nether regions. There are a lot of good face and body trimmers out there, but when it comes to the nether regions, they're cutting features don't provide a delicate enough tool for the area. As you may have seen in other comments, the beard trimmer that I recommend is the Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eFn0Si1Bmyc.html . The 7000 can also be used for body grooming, however, when it comes to the nether regions, the trimmer blade is way too sharp and not something I would ever recommend someone using down there. Philips Norelco recommends using one of their body groomers, which offer a more skin friendly option as opposed to going in with a sharp blade. The product they suggest is the Bodygroom 7100 seen here on Amazon: amzn.to/2RTFfGr . Sorry I don't have a single product for you. Would you compare it with the Norelco Prestige S9000 to see which is better in terms of comfort and closeness, since Philips says that it can handle up to 7 days beard with ultimate comfort.

Hi, Don & You. Excuse me if I misinterpret your question, but I believe you are asking the difference between the S, CC and PS models. In this video, I am using model 9290cc, which is the model I recommend if wanting the full cleaning station. From my understanding, the "S," stands for solo charging device, meaning that the 9299s would not come with a cleaning station, but a charging stand. The "CC," stands for clean and charge station. Any of the products labeled with the CC will include a cleaning station with them. The "PS," I'm not 100% on, but I believe this is for the premium gold edition model. Note that even though each of these 9299 shavers look identical, only the 9299cc will work in the Clean and Charge it comes with. If you tried to put the 9299s model in the station, the charger would sense the incorrect unit and not work. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching and being part of the GroomReviews community! Another thorough review. Thank you. My experience: After owning three Series 7 Braun shavers over the years, I recently moved up to the Series 9, purchasing the silver one with the clean and charge station and a black one with the standing dock charger only (the cheapest) as a backup. The Series 9, although inferior to the build quality of the Series 7, does in my opinion provide a smoother shave than the 7, but only just very slightly closer. It’s also quicker. The 7, for me, was rather coarse on the skin. An important point to note is that, even though the cheapest black Series 9 has the two metal contacts on the back of the shaver, this model does not clean through the clean and charge station. (The black model that comes with the clean and charge station of course does.) In addition, the droplet display does not display on the cheapest model. It would be interesting to know whether the limited edition gold series is the same as the cheapest Series 9 model, with no ability to do an auto clean and charge. Dave, Australia 🇦🇺

Thank you for your continued support! With regard to the Gold edition, I contacted Braun and chatted with a rep. They stated the following: "Our cleaning stations are specifically designed for the model shavers that they come with. Since the 9299s does not come with a station and was not designed for station use, it would not be compatible with any of the stations that we have. In order to get a shaver that will work with a station, you would need to purchase a shaver that will come with the station. Hope this helps! Thanks again and all the best!

GroomReviews Thanks, Paul, and for contacting Braun. Obviously the cheapest black (and the gold) model come out of the same “mould”, with the same two electrical contacts fitted on the back. If you were not aware that these contacts are redundant, as I wasn’t until after purchase, you would think that the shaver would work with the clean and charge unit that comes supplied with the other Series 9 shavers. (They did on my old Series 7, the ones that I owned.) Braun should disclose this fact on the box, perhaps to save one the expense. 😀 Cheers. Dave, Australia 🇦🇺

Hi, Dave. You are very welcome! I totally agree with you. From chatting with community members, many feel at times that manufacturer's are not clearly disclosing key aspects of their products that leave them surprised. I think the Braun Series 9 is a great product, but using Braun as an example, while we are on the subject, they boldly advertise the Series 9 as the "World's Most Efficient Shave," yet carefully tuck away in the fine print the following statement: "Tested on 3-day beard vs leading premium tier products, assessment based on subjective and objective data. Details: www.braun.com/study-results." What does this mean for the guy with a week or two of beard growth, unaware of the fine print, watching their commercial and looking to buy this product? Will this product even work for him or only on the 3-day beard? And what is a 3-day beard in mm length? If Dave can grow a masterpiece in 3-days, is this product still going to work efficiently for him? When I spoke with the rep, they could not provide an answer. Overall, I think there needs to be more open and honest communication to the customer, so they know exactly what they are getting. Until then, I will continue working to dig into the details of products and give efficient, honest reviews for the GroomReviews community. All the best!

Hi, BlaZe iT. Thanks for your comment. I haven't had a chance to test out the Series 7, but I imagine it's very similar in a lot of ways to the Braun Series 9. This Braun shaver was very good as well. It's an expensive product, but if budget is not an issue, it definitely performs. Do you have the multi-lock head feature on the Series 7? Braun says that for areas like the neckline and the upper lip under the nose, the shaver works best when the head is locked in a fixed position and can't swivel. I found this to be true under the nose when I was shaving my upper lip. I definitely hear you. With these foil shavers, in areas like the jaw line, you really need to stretch the skin and go over spots several times to get that smooth feel as compared to the few passes of a sharp razor. Some people may not like getting wet or having to clean foam off their face or the unit, while others, such as yourself, find it provides a superior experience. Additionally, many people have unique skin sensitivities that warrant shaving either wet or dry to avoid skin irritations. Either way, as long as the result meets our expectation, whatever makes the most sense for the individual and makes them feel most comfortable is the way to go. Hi, leongunblade. Thank you for your question. I actually contacted Braun and asked them the maximum length of hair that the Braun Series 9 could be used on. What they told me was that they've only ever officially tested the Series 9 on a 3-day beard. I told them I had a full beard grown out for No-shave November that I wanted to test the product on. They said, by all means see how the Series 9 performs, but that they couldn't give a recommendation whether to use or not to use, since official testing hadn't taken place. Overall, after testing out, the Braun Series 9 is best for someone who clean shaves every one to three days of beard growth. This product will clean shave to a smooth finish. That said, there is a precision trimmer on the back side of the unit. As you saw in the video, someone with longer beard hair could use the precision trimmer to get their beard down to stubble and leave it for that stubble look. Hope this helps! In this video, I am using model 9290cc, which is the model I recommend if wanting the full cleaning station.
