In this video, I give you my full review of the Braun Series 3 Proskin Foil Shaver, Model 3040s.
Braun touts this beard shaving unit for faster shaving with great skin comfort. Currently, the Series 3 shaver ranks at #1 on Amazon for the category of men’s foil shavers.
For those that shave their beard every one to three days, the electric foil shaver and precision trimmer are the perfect combination to get the job done quickly and efficiently.
Taking a look inside the Braun Series 3 Proskin box, you’ll find the shaver, charging cord, protective cap and brush. The shaver features and ergonomic rubber grip, 2 SensoFoil shaver elements for sensitive skin, a middle trimmer for cutting difficult beard hair, and a precision trimmer for crisp edges.
Now, if you take a look at my previous video on the Remington F5-5800 electric shaver, you’ll notice that these two foil shavers are very similar, yet, carry a current price difference of roughly $20 between them.
While the Braun Proskin 3040s costs just shy of $60, the Remington F5-5800 currently sells for a tad above $36. As the Series 3 has 2 foil shaver elements with a middle trimmer in between, the Remington F5-5800 features virtually identical elements.
Both the Braun Series 3 and the F5-5800 electric shaver feature respective flex head technology for efficient cutting while contour to your face. However, the Braun Series also includes a MicroComb element surrounding its middle trimmer, which works to guide hairs into the cutting parts.
Additionally, while the head of the Braun Series 3 is fixed in position, the Remington F5-5800 shaver head provides the ability to pivot along any angle of the face, as well as flex.
For total beard control, a precision trimmer hides discretely tucked away on both units, ready to take care of longer hairs and finishing touches. The Braun Series 3 precision trimmer slides up into the vertical cutting position, while the F5-5800 pops up horizontal.
As far as battery life, the Braun Series 3 takes a 1hr charge for 45 minutes of cordless beard shaving vs the 2hr charge for 60 minutes of cordless beard shaving of the Remington F5-5800. The F5-5800, however, can be used plugged in, while the Braun Series 3 cannot.
The Braun Series 3 Proskin can be used on the beard Wet or Dry, with water, gel or foam and is 100% waterproof up to 5 meters for easy cleaning. When disconnected from the charger, the hand-held part of this shaving appliance may be used in a bath or shower.
The Remington F5-5800, however, indicates that the head assembly part only may be cleaned under water and that the foil shaver cannot be used while bathing or in the shower.
As far as foil and cutter cassette replacement, the Braun Series 3 recommends replacing every 18 month vs the 6 month recommendation of the Remington F5-5800.
Unique to the Braun Series 3 is an indicator light on the bottom front of the unit that will prompt you when a replacement is necessary.
Overall, both the Braun Series 3 and Remington F5-5800 electric shaver got through my beard and left me with a super smooth shave. I was very happy with the result. Each has their own unique features, pricing, and replacement parts, and it is ultimately up to you to decide which one best suite your preference and needs.

Yes, based on manufacturer recommendation for the replacement heads for these two foil shavers, you would need three Remington F5-5800 replacement heads vs one of the Braun Series 3 in the span of 18 months. This would greatly increase your cost, even though the upfront price is lower. Additionally, I have been seeing some $10 off coupon buttons popping up for the Braun Series 3 on Amazon. So, that would make it a better deal, as well. That said, as you could see in the video, there are some feature differences between the two foil shavers that would come down to personal preference, but as far as shaving, they both get the job done. The longer length beard hair I chose to shave was so that I could push these trimmers and see what they really can do beyond the tight testing limits that the manufacturer puts them under. With our time commitments now-a-days, most people will not be super regimented to shaving in a one to three day growth window every time. This shows them what they can expect if they go a bit longer between shaves. Thanks again for all your LIKES and support of my videos! I puchased the Braun model today. The vid clearly shows that the remington wins on dryshave, both when it comes to speed and smoothness. However, there is no option to wetshave, and also there is the issue of the replacement cycle difference, You should replace 3 times the blades for the REM vs 1 time for the Braun. Now the Remington is priced at nealy half the price of the Braun, and that should also be considered. For quickest quality results on a busy monday morning I'd go for the Remington (that is without trying any of them, just based on the review here by GroomReviews). However, I decided to buy a shaver locally here in Norway, in the minimum/lower price range, that could do the job, and they had different Phillips 3x rotary and some different Braun foil shavers, no remington here :(). I found out just looking at star ratings that the Braun 3, 3000 would do the job, and was much cheaper than newer models. Also I do not like the idea of the rotary/3x style, as I come from a straight manual razor experience in the past (starting with old-school 1 blade Gilettes). So even if a couple of the Phillips shavers matched the Braun both price-and-star-vice, I decided to go for this one. I am a bit excited to try this machine and see how it works. At the time of writing I have what equates to about a week of beard, and I intend to go straight on and dryshave most of my face (keeping my moustache). I am aware it says 3day beard in the manual, but anyway... If the dry shave does not work to satisfaction, I'll go wetshave with some gillette foam afterwards. The machine is now charged, and I'll just go for it. Wish me luck. I'll return with my verdict. See ya all.

I just bought the Remington F8 to replace my old Braun S3 Pro Skin. The F8 can be used in water just like the S3. The Braun has been pretty good for three years, but the battery isn't holding a charge like it used to. Also going over the same area over and over has been a short coming of the Braun. My older Panasonic had a nice close shave but I can't find that model anymore. I was going to get another Braun but I decided to try something different.

Im a Braun guy have 3 ,5.. and travel mobile m60b .. love them all…. For the price $16 the travel mobile highly recommend great for teens as well as there first shaver .. it battery.. but it work well

You should check put the Lyker LFX-001, it's the one I own, and it has both components combined... it has the pivoting mechanism, and it has the 3d movable razors... its really nice.

Hi, Tyler. There are actually several different models of the Braun Series 3. The model of the shaver in this video is 3040s. Looking at Walmart's website, I can see that they carry several different models of the Braun Series 3 including the 310s, 3010s, 3040s, and 3010BT. First step is to determine the model of your Braun Series 3. Then, see if this model matches to the model you are viewing on Amazon. Hope this helps! Hi, Nikhil. If I'm reading your question correct, you are looking at the Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 vs Philips Norelco Multigroom 9000. Personally, I have not had a chance to use the Multigroom 9000. However, from what I can see, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the Multigroom 7000 and Multigroom 9000 besides the $40 price difference. Looking at the product specifications, the Multigroom 9000 includes two new attachments. A bodyshaver attachment and 3-7mm beard adjustable comb attachment. It also gained an extra hour of runtime at 6hrs, compared to 5hrs with the Multigroom 7000. Besides this, the Multigroom 9000 has a 10-year service warranty vs the 5-year warranty on the Multigroom 7000. Personally, I would not spend the extra $40 for these additional items, when the Multigroom 7000 gets the job done. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and being part of the GroomReviews community!
