I once saved a baby bearded dragon from PetSmart because it had drowned in the water bowl, but I told my mom it wasn't moving and she said it was ok, so I ran to an employee and told them to open the cage so I could get it out, so I got it out and tried to give it CPR😂, I squeezed it softly then water shot out of his mouth and nose, then he woke back up, everybody called me a life saver, they gave him to me for free and I still have him now, he is big and healthy now 😀

@@isuckatnamingthings5499I don't know if i could make a video on him, but he is a very happy beardie but i have noticed some things wrong like him not growing as fast as he should. I think it could be because i dont have strong enough lighting or that i am feeding him mealworms. Ive heard alot of things like meal worms can be bad for a beardie so i have thought of getting some dubia roaches for him if you have any links or anything like that for good lighting for bearded dragons that would be great!
@jasperdrawings
@jasperdrawings 3 года назад
Thank you so much @HilmJosh. I’ve only been able to get mill worms from my local pet shop lately and have been looking for an online option for dubias for my bearded dragon. And @Prosperity Vaxni that is the cutest story I’ve ever heard. I really hope your bearded dragon is thriving and lives a long happy life as hopefully mine will. Also, especially if your dragon is still young don’t forget to powder their food with calcium and other vitamins. I often neglect to do this myself and even though my bearded dragon is full grown I still feel bad every time I remember I forgot to do that. Also, provide your beardie with a variety of leafy greens and the occasional fruit. I often just give Ali my bearded dragon whatever I find in my fridge after a quick google search. Siri has been a great help in finding what my dragon can and can’t eat. I hope that was helpful for you.
@emilylopez6313
@emilylopez6313 3 года назад
Prosperity Vaxni hi! mealworms should rarely be given because they are hard to digest. dubia roaches are the best insects to feed so i really recommend that. as for the lighting, they need heat coming from a heat bulb ideally 115-125 degrees. they also need uvb. do you have a compact uvb? if you do then i highly recommend getting a liner uvb because the compact ones don’t give off enough uvb, can cause eye problems, and only give off uvb to one spot in the tank. the uvb bulb should fill at least 3/4 of the tank. also how many gallons is your tank?

My female dragon is nearly 15 years old now. She's so old she barely moves and I'm pretty sure she's almost blind so she's since been downgraded to a 30gallon enclosure to make it easier for her to get to her water bowl and basking/ resting areas. She also gets hand fed to make sure she's eating as she tends to not eat out of bowls anymore. Surprisingly she just had a full beautiful shed so it seems she still has some time left ❤️

Great care guide man as always. I have a couple suggestions for people and maybe you. When you hold bearded dragons they appreciate having their tail supported otherwise they tend to flail around(as seen above lol). Also when you transition your dragon from baby food(insects) to adult food(more greens) I have found that it really helps if you mixed brightly colored veggies or fruits with the leafy greens. They seem to really like things that are red and orange. When they try to get those they will inadvertently eat the greens aswell. Mine two 11 year old dragons do not like greens at all but I can trick them into eating them most of the time. I also supplement with vitamin powders and the canned dry bearded dragon food. For some reason they love that stuff

Beardies are so personal about their food! My old dragon really disliked his greens, and wanted crickets and mealworms and only unhealthy veggies that should have been treats. My new young beardie loves his bugs but also loves his greens! Not so hot on carrots, they're "okay". But he has a morning routine of wax worms, big mouthfuls of kale/collard greens/broccoli, then crickets. And he dives face-first into his salad bowl for pre-bedtime munchies and goes nuts. So glad he isn't picky! Current salad is kale, bok choy leafs, and a bit of beardie pellets. He's been finishing a big bowl full lately even after So Many Crickets. Little dude is growing faster than the chart said he would.

@@nightriderghost1784 Retyping since it didn’t appear. You should always buy from a trusted breeder. Don’t go buy the cheapest beardie you can find, as they might be wild caught/sickly. Go for a healthy beardie. They will be more expensive from a breeder, but only because they’re healthier, saving you money on vet trips. For the first 6-10 months of owning my beardies I was spending $50 USD every 10 days. You could get an adult and then spend wayyy less on food, but you’ll miss out on bonding and watching them grow. Thank you for the tips. I have done research but not nearly as much as I wished I’d done when I first got my bearded dragon. I was actually looking for a hognose for my first reptile and was planning to get one at an upcoming reptile expo. But then Covid hit, and my plans quickly changed. I ended up getting Ali, my bearded dragon off of KSL a local website I’d recommend for anyone living in Utah or the surrounding states. It’s basically Creig’s list. I landed on a bearded dragon, probably not the best first reptile but this isn’t the first time I’ve owned an exotic pet. I honestly do not regret my decision. I’m so grateful because during this time of isolation I’ve handled her on a daily basis, and a hognose would’ve been stressed out by now. Also I’m planning on living with my parents for a few more years and my mom who’s terrified of snakes has learned to love my bearded dragon. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better pet. Heck my sister has begged me on multiple occasions to hold her. It’s so great, beardies have as much personality as parrots do with out the noise or the insane amount of attention and fragility.

I fell for one at a local pet shop a few days ago and am looking into getting him lol, this helped a lot - of course, it's not the only video I watched, but by far the most comforting as I'm VERY stressed about it all right now - and I thought my snakes were confusing (I'm very, very new into reptiles, bought my first snake, had a rescue snake thrown at me, and now getting -hopefully that is- a beardie, all within a span of this year). They'll be asking me questions when I go in to actually handle him for the first time (tomorrow!) and I'm super nervous so now I'm spamming my brain with as much knowledge as possible

Funny story how I got my bearded dragon So I was into reptiles for some time but the phase past. One day before my bday, my mom sent me a picture of a bearded dragon and said say hello to your new friend. So my beardy was a pleasant surprise. I was doing sooo much research. In the end, he’s doing great. Love him so much

Be careful with paper towels. They shred easily and some dragons decide that means they're edible for some reason. Maybe they look like worms? Idk but eating shredded paper towels can end badly. Ceramic tile from somewhere like Home Depot or Lowes will last you until you're ready for a more natural substrate and save you a lot of money. Also helps file their nails down and they can't eat it lol.

@@RC-bs6eb thank you! We've been to our local construction store but they don't sell by piece (or slightly damaged ones as I heard in other places) just by m3 and for the two tiles we would need that's too much waste

Thank you for the Letterkenny plug! Also, when you talk about buying, can you also discuss the importance of buying from humane and responsible breeders? I bought my beardie 6 years ago from a chain pet store before learning how insanely cruel and irresponsible their breeding/sourcing practices are. I still have her and she is thriving, but I wish I knew about the store's practices before I supported them. Could that even be its own video if it's not already?

I will be getting a bearded dragon in September, finally! 3 months ago I went for one, and ended up with an Indonesian blue tongue skink. She is great, but sleeps all the time. Can’t wait to get a bearded dragon! They look like fun. I have one question. I have a 40 gallon breeder tank, how long will a bearded dragon be able to be in that size habitat??? It was the habitat my skink was in, and had to upgrade her to a PVC 4 X 2 X 16 inches zen habitat enclosure.
@Corgisaurus-Rex
@Corgisaurus-Rex 4 года назад
It kind of depends on the dragon, but with my beardie, he outgrew it in less than a year. Granted, he is a big boy at about 22 inches long and, even before he was a year old, he was longer than a three year old, lol. But, from what I've heard from other keepers, dragons can reach their max size around 1 yr old since they can grow quickly. With a 40 gallon, you may get 6 months, maybe?
@kendraorndorff7642
@kendraorndorff7642 4 года назад
Corgisaurus Rex Thanks for the information. That gives me 9 months to save for a bigger enclosure. But, then I will need another reptile for my 40 gallon breeder habitat. Now I understand why people with reptiles have so many of them!😁

If it is a baby, then 40 gallons is more than enough right now. Some people even argue that 40 gallons is perfect for an adult as well, it just depends more on space you have and personal experience. If your dragon feels more comfortable and secure in a smaller tank, then it's fine as long as it's not too small. But if it feels better in a larger tank, then get a larger tank. Just do your own personal research

One of my past dragons wouldn't eat her greens, just outright refused, so we used to make "cricket salads" we'd put lots of the good greens but bury in crickets (full of vitamins and canned) or other favorite treats. She would eat the greens to get to the tasty things 🤣

My dragon will NOT be touched. She's a diva. As a baby, she'd throw herself through the air to bite my hands. She'd chase my hands to bite them, and she would even shake her head when she latched on. She's hates everyone and everything, but especially hands. It's been over half a year and I still can't touch her, despite working with her the entire time. I think she'll be like that forever, and it makes me so sad, because I got her because dragons were supposed to be chill. I want a dragon I can hold..
@NelehLove9313
@NelehLove9313 3 года назад
Don't give up on her, she's just stubborn is all. Like a pitbull. Keep showing her affection and keep hand feeding her. They can sense the way you feel too, staying calm and not nervous would also help. She will come around eventually.

An addendum to people watching who aren't from america and dont know what is/can get hold of collared greens- Rocket lettuce (arugala) and asian greens like Pak Choy and similar are your substitute. They also store well as long as you cut the leaves off immediately and store them in a container in the fridge with pieces of paper towel to stop them getting soggy and limp. I only need to go to the store once a week on average instead of every second day.

We got our first reptile, a bearded dragon, a little over two weeks ago. We were heading to the pet store (I know) so my daughter could pick out her birthday gift. She's an avid reptile lover and her dream pet is a hognose but wants a corn snake first so I was sure she was going to get a corn snake. I went ahead and prepared and researched so I would be ready. SHE CHOSE A BEARDED DRAGON! My corn snake enclosure turned into a beaded dragon enclosure and I researched like crazy. Our baby beardie is a complete joy but he is ALOT of work! I feed him crickets four times a day and have tried three other feeder insects plus every vegetable but he will only touch crickets. We don't mind the extra care he needs but definitely not for someone who wants to put alot of time, effort, and money into a first reptile.
