Ryan Bates is the insurance policy for both guard spots and center. Coleman Shelton is the intended center. Who knows what unexpected things could happen but youre spot on to me Swift
We really need to start Shelton. I agree. This is a position that wasn’t addressed properly by Poles. I feel like if Shelton starts at center, we will have that position locked down and won’t be switching guys over and over. I hope we’re right.
How can you say that hoes never properly addressed find the position but then you say that if Sheldon gets the position he will be able to keep it locked down for the long term it sounds like you're saying they found their lockdown player for the position
Versatility seems to always be on Poles mind. I agree, Shelton starts. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bates ends up starting at either guard position since neither Davis or Jenkins have ever played a full season. Bates is a lock as the interior swing guard.
One thing to keep an eye on. Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis are on “one year deals” Jenkins is a FA after this season and Davis if he has a bad year again can either be cut or not resigned. Bates will fill in for the either Guard spot and if Shelton gets hurt.
Its about the run game. Ryan Bates is a better run blocker for Shane's Inside Zone scheme. His mobility fits the scheme better than Shelton's does. Part of the reason the media is saying Ryan has the edge in the competition right now is because he took snaps with the 1s first, before Shelton did. Our coaches aren't afraid of putting less experienced guys in a position in the starting spot if they feel their attributes fit the scheme more. Shelton definitely has the edge in past experience at center and can help mentor Ryan while being a nice safety blanket in case Ryan doesn't develop at center.
Mike Pyle 8 Year Starter 1 Pro Bowl "63" World Champs, Jay Hilgenburg 10 Year Starter 7x Pro Bowl "85" Superbowl Champs, Olin Kreutz 13 Year Starter 6x Pro Bowl Chicago Center's! I'll go with the Experience over the Potential! Potential gets you Fired!
Swift I been saying this all off season. I dot understand why they been saying this. Apparently the bears out Ryan bates as the start in the depth chart but common sense says it’s Shelton !! The stats you post. Prove that and having bates as a back up at all 3 interior spots is a massive upgrade over Last years backup corp.
I'm sorry but Davis turned out to be a bum now this year....and either one of these guys is an upgrade from a Mustipher and Patrick. So Im not worried but yeah I agree Shelton should be in the drivers seat at Center. Ill take Bates at guard...Davis can be a bench warmer for now.
Another one Swifty. Had to work today so when I got home I had two, count that two, vids to watch. I want the starter to give the opposing D-line hard knocks.
CB1 Competition? 😳 Jaylon vs Stephenson. Idk if it's this year...or ever... But I think Stephenson is gonna become so good, that an All Pro in JJ plays against WR2 eating all day.
You already know my stance and I'm the only person to bring up that Coleman Shelton was listed as the Starting Center on the Bears official roster before it was taken down during the new league year transition. The ONLY edge I see for Ryan Bates is that we have him for two years of control. I do believe it will 100% come down to camp and who Caleb shows he's most comfortable with. ... But you know I've been very vocal that Shelton is the favorite to be our starting Center.
not gonna lie, I have hoped for Bates gotta get it that Center job for over 3 years.. Sometimes Sheldon looked like Musty last year.. Bates is stronger against the 1v1 in pass pro. We need the interior to not collapse infront of the QB.
As of today my starting OL (left to right) Jones-LT, Bates-LG, Shelton-C, Jenkins-RG (Tev is a WAY BETTER RG than LG AND a WAY BETTER RG than Bates) and Wright-RT
When Nate Davis misses half of the off-season program (he will) and then poops the bed in his first start (he will), he’ll be summarily benched for Bates for the season.
Kramer needs to beef up, he was undersized coming out of the draft. We've seen enough of the center being tossed in to the quarterback's lap off the snap... 😅
never got the media's take that bates was the man at center, the man has taken 203 total snaps at the center pos in the NFL, Shelton did that in the first three games last year alone. Shelton will have off games for sure, but you gotta go with experience on this one. not to mention one of his best pass blocking games was vs Green Bay.
Competition builds QUALITY depth at EVERY position. In 3 SHORT years Ryan NEVER NOT WORKING Poles has transformed this team from last chance U to a competitive team. GREAT time to be a BEARS fan! ⬇️🐾⬆️
Shelton knows the McVay system that Waldron bases his plays off of. End of story. Bates fills an important role of backing up all 3 interior positions. Frankly if Nate Davis doesn’t show up again this year then start Bates at right gaurd.
Pry the Biggest Battle. Few rookies could challenge for spots on OL and DE. Interested how Sewell is used this year. Will he push Edwards? Pry Not. Could they add plays for him? Yeah. WR 4 competition. Then the Yale Tackle/Guard when 100% could challenge for LT, LG, or RG. So this imo, is the biggest battle Rn. Hopefully they are both good and elevate each other through competition. If neither does great, they will sign Connor Williams likely. 🤷🏻 Can't let Caleb get toasted all season.
@@Michael-CharlesAust-ee5oo 😅😅😅 Idk bout that now. We gonna see ya know. Ain't shit we say matter outside Prayers. We gonna watch and see real soon here 💯
I think Bates is the favourite for center because Poles seems to favour him. Otherwise I'd be with you 100%. Bates can play any interior position. Shelton seems like a center only. Even if Bates wins the job, there's a solid chance that he moves to guard if necessary and fills in at centre
Nate Davis at $10 million per yr will NOT be back in 2025 unless he plays at an all pro level. I think the Bears hope Bates can be his replacement at RT for a much cheaper price.
