@@Bowebble I think Dinobot got a pass for those because it wasnt a Starscream-like situation. Dinobot would honestly point out when he genuinely had a problem with a plan (hell, even his fight with Optimus to takeover the maximals doesn't seem personal, Dinobot sincerely thinks he'd be a good leader) which is a useful asset to have sometimes. Megs just couldn't deal with how it seemed like he'd be underminding him all the time.
Megatron did not have an arc. He always put himself before others in the pursuit of his goals. While his body changed his character was no different from the start of BW to the end of BW.
Yes, I can concur. He was the most honorable Warrior I've ever seen. A word that lives with honor, so be honored in memory. As for Megatron, eh, he can suck egg.
I freaking love the moment at 3:47. The look on Megatron's face as the glimmers of the old Dinobot peaks out, and Megatron being *VERY* aware of said glimmers is priceless
cyrus smith It was cancelled, but there was an episode where Rattrap found the original Dinobot’s memories stored on their salvaged systems, and he was able to transfer the originals memories to the clone, but it didn’t take. Cue Rampage’s death, and the flood of memories commence.
He is written as though he is the same character due to an unfinished episode where Rhinox hacks into Dinobot 2 and restores the original Dinobot spark, however due to Rampage still being alive he ramained unchanged till Rampage was killed.
Megatron: What possible reason do you have to disobey me?! I am your master! I am your CREATOR! Dinobot II: And I...have my honor! Megatron: *triggered*
@Kyle Baltzer Can you picture this argument? Optimus Primal: "I fight for justice, honor and freedom!" Megatron:" BY THE MATRIX, PRIMAL!! SUCH LANGUAGE!!"
@Kaecilius Yep. He was had a great blend of experience, strength & courage. That is the original. HE I have no problem with dying. His clone on the other hand was a total waste.
Lmao, did you ever watch Beast Wars? The rubber ducky was almost a character unto itself. David Kaye (Megatron's BW voice actor) has been known to occasionally sing the rubber ducky song from Sesame Street in his Megatron voice for fans.
Megatron was a real monster for this resurrecting his old enemy once subordinate Only to be controlled like a puppet on a string Damn man I’m glad I was a witness to such awesome storytelling as a kid
Transmetal 2 Dinobot may have been a monster but in the end he gave his second life to save the maximals aboard the ark he will always be an honourable transformers
Yeah & Rampage's like the Hannibal Lecter of Beast Wars, because of his ominous silhouette & his death in the hands of Depth Charge...He laughed at it in 2:47
Yes that’s true he did got he’s memories back but he actually end his life and the maximals did lost him in the first time but this time they have to let him go this time but there should have been a way that they could just save him will they were in the decepticons ship he would of reunite with his friends the maximals that what we all want for dinobot
@@joaquinnevarez2509 yes but if he did survive he would have been in Beast Machines and that would have probably ended badly for him Megatron would have definitely reduced him fo slag
@@solrachernandez3389 true but you might never even if some of the others maximals would have survived they would have given a transmetal upgrade designs such a airrazor “😒 even though rhinox didn’t get the upgrade in the series but only he’s toy did you know” and anyway then they would have make it into the Beast machines events
@@joaquinnevarez2509 personally I think that in Beast Machines they should have kept the Trans-Metal 2 body's. I mean Cheetors feral body looked more technorganic then the bodies the Maximals got in Beast Machines. Also I agree Rhinox should have survived the series the whole evil story arch was good but still
It is not. Back in the day, this was genuinely one of the best shows ever. It only "failed" because toy sales weren't going as planned, yet people still truly loved the show. It has a huge cult following even to this day.
@@jayjay86443are you sure? The series was extremely successful not only was the show super beloved but toy sales were at an all time high I think you meant Beast machines (the shitty sequel series) failed because the show was super controversial because of how angry it made old fans And the toys didn’t save it one bit
@michelcoolguy1701 beast machines had some nice ideas, but ruined a brilliant show imo. Changing the characters too much and in terrible ways. I think I remembe reading the creators had never watched beast wars, and that's a big problem.
he was also heavily injured from a sneak attack before he fought the majority of the preds XD and then there's rampage who was 10 times strongere then Megatron but dinobot still kicked his ass
I kind of liked the setup where, while Megatron was pretty strong, you got the sense he STAYED leader because of his charisma and smarts. All his cronies were just too stupid/argumentative/backbiting to ever team up against him, and he was very good at playing their weaknesses against each other.
One of the things I like about Dinobot and rarely see ppl talk about it is his relationship with optimus primal he truly respected prime as a warrior they were like good war friends, several times when optimus got hurt Dinobot would call his name in concern especially the one where optimus had that berserker virus and At the end of the episode dinobot was watching over optimus waiting for him to wake up and tells him its good to have him back and even brought him flowers 🌸 lol
Given that the clone never had a non-transmetal form, he would've initially had to have been a vehicon. I feel they could've done what they did with Silverbolt better with Dinobot 2 instead. With Silverbolt it never made sense how he suddenly became overly confrontational and edgy, but Dinobot's character always had undertones of that, particularly in Season 1
James Sinclair I think the personality changes were caused by a shell program, the same thing megatron used on the protoforms on earth to establish them as predacons, like blackarachnia and inferno. His use of them on the vehicons generals was his form of an ironic and sadistic enjoyment. He mad Rhinox an idiot, he made Silverbolt cruel and he made waspinator actually competent. As for the trans metal part, that’s where things get interesting to me. When the virus hit them, “basic” transformers were made immobile, transemetals were reverted and they had short term memory loss. However what’s odd about that last point is that optimuses current body has never been anything but a transmetal. This leads me to think that dinobot2 would “revert” to an organic looking raptor similar to the original dinobot. I mean he has to have some organic nature and not be entirely mechanical, or the energon on earth would have caused him to shut down, meaning he is a tansmetal with at least enough in common with the others that the virus should do the same to him.
There was actually an episode that was cut, and sold as a comic packed in with a toy. The comic details the cut episode in which Rattrap tries to upload a copy of Dinobot’s memory into Dinobot 2. It seems like it failed but as we see in the series finale, it worked after Rampage died.
@Dingle So Dinobot didn't return to his old self because his genetic memory took hold after Rampage died, but because Rapttrap tried to reprogram him with Dinobot's memories? Huh...
Dinobot was my favorite. I still remember when they had the white raptors and I kept saying "what if they bring back Dinobot!" Then they were hinting it in that episode, and then he steps out and snarls, then it cuts to commercials without showing him, but I was already exclaiming YES! YES! YES! YES! THEY DID IT!!! then I got the figure at KB Toys. Unforgettable times.
Both of his deaths were some of the saddest and yet noblest in the Transformers franchise. Still wish Transmetal 2 Dinobot had survived. On a technical note though, looking back at these scenes it's really cool to see how the animation improved over the years, and how it shows with Dinobot.
I'd have to agree. Always seemed like a cheap way to write him off, particularly because he was literally next to optimus yet gets left behind anyway, despite seeing plenty of times where optimus can still fly while carrying someone; even after the crash he was still in sprinting distance, but they both just gave up even thought it was against their characters. But yeah the animation advancement was a sight to behold, even going from Reboot to this.
My favorite version of Dinobot/transmetal. The silver metallic white , burgundy reddish purple and charcoal grey color scheme , the wicked raptor/ robot hybrid design. Dinobot 2 seems to have a sadictic , savagery, demeanor that reminds me of the Predator. If only the original Dinobot had morphed into the transmetal early on Beast Wars like Rattrap and Cheetor.
I think he'd look slightly different because this version of Dinobot was a Transmetal 2, not just a regular Transmetal so in my opinion he'd probably look a little different. But it's a neat idea to think about a Transmetal 1 Dinobot. Lets be honest tho I don't think that needed it.
What if Primal brought Rattrap with him to stop Megatron and Dinobot 2 on the Nemesis? We see Rattrap head for Dinobot 2 and tackle him to get him away from the control table to prevent him from firing up the Nemesis' systems. Dinobot 2 wasn't paying attention and was shocked from the unexpected force of Rattrap's tackle and with him now becoming enraged and being much bigger than Rattrap, he throws him off and pins Rattrap down and throws his gun out of his holster leaving Rattrap defenseless. Optimus sees this and attempts to aid his friend but Megatron keeps Optimus' attention. Dinobot 2 looks at Rattrap for a moment seemingly recognizing him as not a foe, but as an old comrade from another time. However, sentimentality is all but lost on this clone as it was almost entirely gone in the original Dinobot as well. As Dinobot 2 prepares to quickly kill Rattrap so he can get back to work on the Nemesis, Rattrap attempts to get through to Dinobot 2 who despite everything he has had done to him and his comrades, he still believed his old friend was still somewhere in there despite all the odds. Dinobot 2 just snarls and prepares to strike him down. Rattrap realizing at that point that if there was anything left of his friend in this disgrace to his name, it was all gone. Rattrap makes a disappointed remark to Dinobot in a typical smart-ass way saying "What are you waiting for lizard lips? We've done this before just finish the job already will ya?" In that moment with Dinobot 2's loyalties towards Megatron being questioned and receiving a memory of the original Dinobot earlier, he has a flashback to that moment in "Maximal, No More" of him about to strike Rattrap down but spares him and defends him from Megatron. In that moment, the original Dinobot's personality briefly comes to the surface with his right eye flickering from Dinobot 2's firey orange eyes to Dinobot's dark red eyes.
Rumor has it there was actually supposed to be an episode where Rattrap snuck into the Predacon base and downloaded Dinobot's memories or something into the clone but, it got scrapped
Best is right, and Dinobot died a true hero because of it and why he said, "Farewell, Optimus Primal." To be honest, i like Dinobot. He represents honor by it's true meaning.
@@pittland44 It had nothing to do with that, it was because he had Part of Rampage's mutant indestructible spark, and Rampage himself was shown to heal/repair himself naturally.
@@ValiantWrestling Even Rampage required repairs from time to time, the end of Bad Spark when he fell off the cliff and was shorting out springs to mind.
Step one into making one of your villains a sickening vile piece of slag: Have them bastardize a beloved and heroic character and ripping out their sense of honor by replacing it with ruthlessness. Step two: Have it backfire on them by having their creation turn on them.
It should be worth noting that there was an unproduced episode, 'Dark Glass', where Rattrap uploaded the original Dinobot's datatrax (or, his memories) into Dinobot II. Which is why after Rampage's death, the personality of the original Dinobot finally took control, and Dinobot II made the same honorable sacrifice that his predecessor made in the end.
I was born in 92, so i was lucky enough to see the original run of this as it cane out. This and roughneck; starship troopers chronicles were the best back then. Dinobot and cheetor were my favorites. Odd, it was the ONLY transformers show where optimus wasn't my favorite. Dinobot was a tragic hero. At least in the end, he saved mankind
Transmetal 2 cheetor is my favorite maximal by far. I hated the designs for beast machines, but the story was cool. The designs NEVER grew on me during the entire show, but the ongoing story was engaging. I highly advise everyone to see beastwars, beast machines, and roughnecks. 3 great cgi shows from the dark ages. The era of Yahoo, aol, ask jeeves, and the Rosie odonnel show
@@ValiantWrestling Wow. You're not even wrong. Armada Starscream was the best part of the show. He had an arc and even ended up defecting to the Autobots before sacrificing himself to get both Optimus and Megatron to work together to fight Unicron.
Even as a clone, it was Dinobot. Best character of Transformers ever! Optimus shouldn't leave him behind, Dinobot transmetal would be a great new warrior. Miss that guy.
At first I was kinda upset that they brought back Dinobot only to make him a villain again. But then I watched further and realized he was still the same.
Megatron is obsessed with Dinobot. I suspect before landing on the "wrong planet", Dinobot was not only the most competent, but the most loyal to the original plan. I have the feeling that Dinobot (and maybe Tarantulas) was the only one who knew the real plan was to go to earth and alter time. The rest Megatron convinced with promises of power and energon.
Kaila Kang Werty Good point. Why didn't he pick up Dinobot 2 off of the Nemesis as it was crashing? It would had been cool to at least gotten Dinobot in Beast Machines.
I know Optimus should have saved Dinobot but that’s how the story goes and call it an act of redemption cuz Dinobot saved history twice but at the cost of his life and a noble deed.
* Sigh * - If only they had thought of what would happen if a Stasis Pod, scanned a Human or human skeleton? Now THAT Transformer would be Unique Indeed!!!
Megatron tore in half the Spark, the soul of a fellow Transformer and puts it in a torture device to enslave its owner. He takes an unborn life, innocent and pure, shoves the mutilated soul into it. He then desecrates the body of a hero, an absolute martyr out of sheer spire, and condemns him to become his grotesque slave, a half-living affront to Dinobot's own noble sacrifice. It's probably one of the most heinous act I've seen in fiction outside of outright genocide (and guess what crime Megatron tries to commit at least twice towards mankind in this series!), and one of the reasons I consider him one of the most monstrous and vile villain I've ever seen.
What a wasted character! He could had been such a contribute to Beast Machines if he had lived! I could egsept the original Dinobot's death. But not this one. He could had grown a unique personality as an Maximal warrior against Megatrons Vehicons as someone who has worked with Megatron and knows of his true mad nature. Mabye he could had grown a bigger connection with Rattrap in seeing the true danger of their surcomstanses or getting to know the Maximals more deeply being forced in company with them or a mental stability problem or controlling his inner rage against Megatron. A growth to care about someone other than himself. Going on a quest to find who he truly is being confused of who he really could be in the inside. Having the half spark of Rampage and the DNA or the original Dinobot. A confused soul of two long gone bots. Mabye he could had been a great fighter and made Beast Machines gain a better reception among fans. I would surely had loved to had seen that. He would be like a Dinobot Jr of sorts in sharing a connection of turning from a nobody to a special somebody. Growing feelings and learning from his comrades. They could had done so much with him. But, they just killed with no thought what so ever sadly.
Plus, I would had liked to had seen how he would had looked in Beast Machines. And what if he was to communicate with the original Dinobot in seeking advice in how to defeat Megatron. And what if Dinobot 2 were to become fascinated in studying the true meaning of free will in how it makes us all who we are. He could had learned how to make himself a unique individual apart from Rampage and Dinobot 1 and all the other Maximals. It would be like how Optimus said about how the Matrix created life on Cybertron to grow and evolve to learn the true well being of living and as the Generations pass on to each other, the world and knowledge builds and adapts to prosper and thrive all around. This could had made Dinobot 2 become a freedo, fighter for the right of free will building a commentary on oppression and slavery showing how Megatron's ambitions are misguided and unbalance. And as someone who grew up as a Predacon in the rough environment and seeing the ways of sides could be able to learn how to fix the issues for both sides wich can bring peace to Cybertron ending the whole series on a great high note much like how the Beast Machines show was all about balancing and blending the organic and technological to bring them together as one were as a character like Dinobot could had brought it to a higher level of greatness. Or just simply be a fun character to bring enjoyment into a epic show like how he did in the Beast Wars. I don't know really. I just like Dinobot alot.
The Ghost Well then what was the point of bringing him back then HUH! Why couldn't they just make a new character. Besides, Dinobot 2 is really not the same as the original Dinobot when you think about it. I was just showing what I thought would make a introsting character arc.
Dinobot Kiryu Yes I agree with what you are saying, but since the show was almost near it's end my guess is the writers realised they didn't have much time to develop Dinobot 2 and it's a shame they had so much potential to develop him. Also it would've been cool to see him in Beast Machines
The Ghost Can you imagine what his design would had looked like? I always used to imagine this stuff back when I was younger. I was a huge nerd in Beast Wars as a child and always enjoyed it when Dinobot was on screen anticipating where he would go next. I grew to accept his original death. Just not his second death. I like your profile picture by the way. I am also a huge Venom fan as well. He's up there with The Green Goblin as the best Spider Man Villains and hope to see him in a Future Spider-Man film. Do they plan to?
3:00 Megatron knew what happened in a technical sense, but didn't think it all the way through. He got too arrogant after finding the nemesis and it lead to defeat.
