The beasties were always a hardcore punk band before anything else. They all play instruments, ad rock on guitar, MCA on bass, and mike d plays drums and sings. However , mike d just sings on certain hardcore tunes and the drumming duties are handled by AWOL, a friend of the beastie boys and former drummer of suicidal tendencies and he recorded drums for the punk stuff on ILL communication and aglio y olio. The beastie boys always stayed true to their hardcore punk roots.
The first song "brand new" is a diss at Mike's brother in laws band Dead Fucking Last. Aglio e olio and every album by dfl are easily my favourite albums.
The story behind this is that the Beastie Boys were always a hardcore punk band before they got into hip hop. Even after they became hip hop legends they always were true to their hardcore punk roots. They had an bunch of extra hardcore tunes leftover from recording ILL communication and put them all on the record aglio y olio. I recently heard ad rock say that the beasties were always a punk band.
Hörður Gabríel the drummer is their buddy AWOL, he drummed for suicidal tendencies and played drums for the beasties for their hardcore stuff on Ill communication , Mike d plays drums on sabotage and other tracks but he sings on the hardcore punk stuff
The guitarrist is Ad-rock...the guy in drums is Amery AWOL Smith, ex-Suicidal Tendencies and drummer of hardcore songs in I`ll communication album and Aglio e Olio.
Too Bad the video quality is garbage... but then again i realize that at the time this was filmed HD didn't exist. Oh well thanks for the upload though!
