This is the first game (besides Arceus), where I've completed the Pokédex. It's just been so fun completing the dex and doing raids even after I finished the base game.
Despite their appereance, Rika, is a female. It's even stated in the dialogue during the game. Don't worry, I made the same mistake when I met them and was taken back when she was introduced as a girl. You can go to Bulbapedia and check it out if you think I am just making this up.
The moment I saw Larry in the Elite Four I fan girled. I love Larry so much❤️ he just speaks to me. He is one of my favorite characters ever. To think that THIS is the job he is tired of coming to makes me laugh my ass off.
Yess I agree so much, the character designs were all great in SV but Larry is definitely my favorite. I think people either love him or hate him, i've heard people say he was the worst gym leader ever 😢
I really wish it was level scaled. Still having the gym leader level cap really got in the way of me just exploring the open world as freely as I wanted.
You shouldn’t have let it, I took my team of level 30s to fight grusha and basically fought almost everything massively under leveled and I think level scaling ruins that because a 3-5 level difference isn’t a challenge
Problem is that level scaling isn't as simple as it sounds. There's a lot to consider with it that people don't want to consider. Should it be level based, or progress based? Since level isn't the only factor in increasing the difficulty between gyms (they also get more Pokemon, evolutions, better Pokemon, better moves, better if still simple AI and strategy, better healing items), how do you adjust the balancing beyond level so that they aren't still in some difficulty order but also not all incredibly easy or easy for veterans and challenging for newbies? What do you do about wild Pokemon encounters, when players don't want to be ambushed by level 50 wild Pokemon heading to their first gym, but some players want to be able to find level 50 wild Pokemon on their own terms to get a lucky catch and cheese the game? I'll use Brassius as a simple example. As it is, he is designed to be the second Gym leader. As such, he has 3 Pokemon. A level 16 Petilil, a level 16 Smoliv, and a level 17 Sudowoodo, with a Grass Tera type. His Petilil only knows Sleep Powder and Mega Drain, his Smoliv only knows Tackle and Razor Leaf, and his Sudowoodo only knows Rock Throw and Trailblaze. Very weak, but an effective, if simple, strategy. Sudowoodo, being a Rock type normally, still gets Rock type STAB when it Terastalizes, and Rock Throw gives coverage against most of Grass types' weaknesses, beating Fire, Bug, Flying, and Ice, and dealing neutral damage to Poison, much better than Trailblaze. Again, very simple, but probably enough to catch new players off guard and earning them a defeat. But a veteran player? Even underleveled, a veteran player is likely ready, having Pokemon that can beat Grass with their attacks but don't have STAB, such as a Yungoos with Fire Fang, or even taking a risk using Quaxley or Quaxwell with Wing Attack or something despite its weakness to Grass. But then if you were to scale it, how would that work? If it's based on your level, so what? His Pokemon can already have full movesets, so it's clearly a choice to only give them 2 attacks each. So would that change with their level, or no? If so, now having more moves makes them even better, giving them better coverage. If not, how much more threatening is it at level 50, especially if your Pokemon are around there as well? Higher levels mean more Pokemon that can use a super effective move, more grinding means more stats from EVs meaning hitting even harder with neutral effectiveness, also means more money for better held items. Meanwhile, however, a less skilled player is getting screwed over. The guy that before would have faced Brassius with a level 30 Flamigo so it can guarantee going first and one shotting each Pokemon is screwed because the level scaling means he can't just over level to win. So just by scaling to your level, they've given themselves a headache figuring out how to balance it so that better players can be challenged, because even at level 100, a Sudowoodo with only Trailblaze and Rock Throw is a Sudowoodo with only Trailblaze and Rock Throw, but also not too difficult because that player that would have overleveled already can't so giving that Sudowoodo Wood Hammer, Stone Edge, Counter, and Trailblaze (just because it's Brassius' TM) would basically be rubbing salt in the wound, and still wouldn't be that difficult for a skilled player that EV trains and figures out the best movesets and items to give a Pokemon, especially when that's still not considering giving him more than 3 Pokemon, better healing items, evolving Petilil and Smoliv, giving him held items. Level matching alone clearly isn't the best option. Now, those issues are resolved with progress based scaling, as they can change the teams a whole lot more if it depends on the number of badges you have, and less skilled players can still overlevel to handle them. But that still leaves the issue of wild Pokemon. As stated before, players really don't want to be walking to their second gym when suddenly a level 50 Bisharp attacks them just because they went to Glasseado first, that kind of tells them "hey, this should be one of the last gyms". But while they don't want to be surprised by a high level wild Pokemon on their way to the second gym, some players do want to hunt down a high level wild Pokemon to take a risk trying to catch it, because having a level 50 Bisharp with only one badge makes the next few badges really easy, even with the level restrictions making it disobey sometimes. Hell, people complained that they couldn't even try this in Sword and Shield. Not to mention the fact they clearly tried having a rather believable ecosystem, with some Pokemon appearing alone, some in packs, some that appear in a group surrounding a higher evolution in their line, some surrounding a Pokemon that could be seen as prey or a symbiotic relationship. And not only does having wild Pokemon scaling ruin that, it also screws over those that want to catch Pokemon way stronger than they should have at that point, and can make things awkward for other players as well depending on how they handle balancing like finding Pawmi vs Pawmot vs something else entirely. Imagine trying to complete the Pokedex, but because you did all of the gyms already, you can't catch Pawmi, you need to catch a Pawmot, breed it, hatch the egg, then level the Pawmi so you can also get Pawmo. Or swapping your team around as you progress, but that Pawmi that you caught early on that didn't get much use because you chose the Grass, Electric, and Bug gyms first but would be great against the Water gym you plan to battle next... But it's only level 5 and now the wild Pokemon are level 25, so have fun raising it. Overall, it's not as simple to include scaling as it sounds. There's a lot of other factors and variables to consider, a ripple effect that comes with balancing elements on the fly. That's not to say it can't be done, obviously it can. But it's evident they didn't have much time as it was. Imagine how it would have been had they taken the time to work in scaling as well? And if they took the extra time before release to make it all work right so they could include scaling, we would probably still be two years from release.
I love the idea of going into new games totally blind, finding that one pokemon that speaks to you and making FINDING one and using it a core goal of the playthrough
It's funny seeing the order you battled the gym leaders at, Ryme was my 8th gym while Grushia was my 6th. Hell, the 1st gym leader was my 5th badge lmao
Scarlet and Violet have the best story in generations. Not since gen 5 has the story been this mature and serious. They're the buggiest best games in the franchise. I'll die on that hill. Move over gen 5 there's someone new to take that crown. About time I say. Also TEAM FUECOCO! Skeledirge is awesome.
Skeledirge is my favourite and the story being good really makes me mad that sword and shield didn’t have a good story when they had such good Pokémon and characters. I love corviknight, eternatus, Dragapult and toxtricity
Legit, while Whoopers evolution is basically a blob, he is so friend shaped and I would cuddle so much, if it doesn't poison me anyway. And yes, Larry is by far one of my most favourite pokemon characters.
I picked up both games and wound up removing the plastic off of Violet version first so I played it first. When I captured the Flamingo pokemon and the first thing that came to mind was the first Karate Kid movie and while I couldn't remember the main character name at the time Daniel son as he is called I think I nicknamed the pokemon Crane Kick after the strategy Daniel used to win in the final battle of that movie although I am not even 100% certain I got that technique name right.
Cool ☺️ To answer, The way I've planned to play SV is focusing on Team Star(since Titans comparatively don't seem as long I think :(), mostly healing during picnics(wanted to do this for SwSh but never got a copy) and mostly use mons from the tera raids. I think it's interesting ideas, and I hope I won't regret it by the end haha
It makes sense, since those types didn’t technically have a specialist trainer in the region. Well. Ms. Tyme *is* a rock specialist. But that’s beside the point.
This was actually the first Pokémon game that I didn’t have any fond of the starters but as soon as I saw the water starters final evolution and I used it in a play through I love it I had all three starters at this time when I did and the water starter was by far my favorite starter of all
Not true, if you completed EVERYTHING, including the Starfall Street gangs, you can actually go back and rechallenge the Team Star gang bases. And when you do, Clive will be right there to support you like good old times. Note, the number of Pokemon and their levels are higher than before you beat the game.
@@forgerofsouls9126 oh i didnt know that, i knew there were gym rechallenge but i didnt know team star had them aswell, i expected it after what happend but never checked
There’s a tropical looking island advertisement with a rayquaza in the Pokémon centers across paldea, it might hint at hoenn dlc, maybe you can do a vid on hidden things in the region!
Anyone else find it funny how he describes why play rough wouldn’t be super effective because of the Tera type becoming the defensive typing yet he keeps using low kick even though it isn’t super effective anymore?
I fought the staraptor and my bellibot’s static gave him paralysis. He then only used the move you get the rn for (forgot name) which doubles power when the non has paralasis
I can see why you would focus on just doing the gyms, since that's what most people are used to. For Violet I've been doing all three stories at once, basically doing things as I came to them on the map. I was most interested in the Titan storyline going into the games, and when I found out that was how you unlocked traversal moves like flying and surfing, I figured out I would knock out that path first, though I quickly figured out navigating to all of them right away might not be doable (the False Dragon Titan one in particular requires being able to surf or fly to access). So I went to do the Klawf one, then realized the Team Star Fire base was nearby and was like "Might as well take that down while I'm over here." Doing that got me close to Levincia, so I did that as my first gym (I also had trouble with the Mismagius, but luckily chip damage from my Naclstack's Salt Cure took it out). And the rest of the game has basically gone like that. I do agree, Paldea has some interesting Pokémon. I was unimpressed with Flamigo when I first saw it (honestly I didn't like any of the new flying types). But I heard in a video by MysticUmbreon that Flamigo was really strong, so I decided to give it a shot. It has definitely proven itself. Clodsire is also quite good, despite looking derpy. Espathra I also wasn't super into (fans like to call it "the Lady Gaga ostrich") but people were using it a lot so I caught a wild one, and it IS pretty powerful. Fidough is also adorable. I haven't used mine too much though, except when I used it against Ryme, mostly using Dachsbun (its evolution) and a STAB Fairy-type Tera Blast.
I also answered Larry for the quiz since he was the only gym leader I remembered all those details for. When I saw him come out as an Elite 4 member I thought you'd get whichever gym leader you answered in the Elite 4 and thought it was kinda cool. But alas, it's always Larry and was just a coincidence. They just couldn't be bothered to design one more character for whatever reason.
It's not that they couldn't design another character they chose not to and have him have a cool story imo. Just a regular salary man who is just doing his 9-5 but La Primera is trying to spark more creativity in him so makes him the flying elite 4 member. When you do your victory lap after the elite 4 and fight him again he has a renews live of battling and even mentions that he has to leave early because hes not allowed anymore overtime
@@ammarlalji5208 While I appreciate that that could be the case, if they wanted it to land and not feel like it came out of nowhere they could've had some sort of setup that Larry plays a bigger role than just a mid-level gym leader. Especially given the fact that the Treasure Eatery is where you can change your tera types, even a line or two from Geeta like 'Larry may not seem like it but he's played a big part in helping us learn more about Terrastallization', or maybe him coming in after your battle and being chummy/familiar with an E4 member since you already see them a lot right after the gym battles. Something to set it up in some small way so that it doesn't feel so random would've been a lot better imo.
Minor correctio, you do not become THE champion of Paldea, you become A champion of Paldea. There are multiple champions, Geeta is just the biggest one, and it's implied that during the battle, she isn't going 100%, as afterwards absolutely no one but Nemona is shocked, and they still call Geeta the best.
Rika is a She, not a he. :c Also I seriously also answered larry and was like "OH COOL ITS WHOEVER YOU SAID YOU'RE WEAK TOO"... but no its just always larry =/
Leaving a Like and Comment to help the algie, I'll watch after I finish the story stuff and feel like I've dicovered enough of the world (taking my time to explore slowly, plus I only get to play a little here and there). Thanks in advance for what I know is a good video!
I made in this order, 1 titan, 1 gym, 1 team star, then after the 2 titan I know the real story and rush to make all 5 titans. After complete I track back the gym leaders and kick off team star’s if they are close. I’m ending have 5 titans, 8 badges and 3 team stars, so I go after the fairy guy and the last one is the Kiss band girl. Become a champion, battle Arwen, finish team star leader and go to area zero.
I'm playing through pokemon scarlet and violet in my own way. Speedrun violet so I can't get spoiled by the plot. Then play scarlet the way I intended it aka I goof off, create a living dex and maybe mess with glitches
Larry was my favorite gym leader because it’s just some guy that dreads his job. That’s pretty normal. Also Rika is a girl. I noticed you kept caller her a he.
The open world emphasis means I have no interest in playing this myself but I am interested in seeing how others take on this game and the Pokémon teams they end up forming. It's so early on into this release, I assume this is a compilation of your first time playing this (perhaps based off your streams)? 1:13 - Honestly, I think it is rather fun to see a playthrough without the starter, particularly swapping it out with a Pokémon you don't get early on. It makes your eventual team far more distinct. 2:43 - I figured Honour Battle would simply be using the same amount and levels of Pokémon as your opponent (kind of like the Stadium games). Interesting to hear that for Pokémon it means a mirror match. 9:34 - Never quite got the appeal for dolphins but it was strange that they took so long to make one, given the abundance of water types they introduce each generation. 11:45 - Flamigo stats are insane for a Pokémon that you can catch before you even get to the school. I thought Furfrou was a harsh early game Pokémon to face but Flamigo is an over 100 attack early game encounter! Glad the wonders of Dudunsparce got pointed out. 19:15 - Gosh, I can't escape people's obsession for putting mayo in sandwiches even in a videogame. Why do people continue to ruin sandwiches!? 21:33 - Love how you continue referring to all Espathra's as Mcnuggets. Also, congrats on finally winning an honour battle!
Don't know if I should watch this cuz I've completed only half the game (4 gyms, 3 titans, and 2 star bases) or just go ahead and watch cuz I love these videos and have no self-control. Hmmm 🤔 I guess the decision can wait 24 minutes... wait.
I'm not saying you shouldn't complain to Game Freak about how bad their games are, hell I pray they fix their style, but I have to admit Pokemon has this new unique charm where everytime I see something glitchy or broken I don't get mad anymore, I just laugh very ecstatically
I just love how the first thing you do is trade away fuecoco, and just did a big f*ck you by pissing off everyone with that, and you really did it how you intended it. hahahaha
How on God’s green earth did GameFreak manage to justify leaving out SCALING LEVELS in an open world game. Level scaling has existed in RPGs for the better part of the last 30+ years. Just very disappointed in the execution.
