I'd love to see more GA speedruns and challenge runs! (It'd be interesting to see how many of the pre-installed adventures can be completed with, say, an unevolved cell-creature or pitiful worm, with or without equipment.)

Thank you! I tried the launch again and the launch speed does appear to me to be controlled by time holding Jump. I could hold Forward for several seconds and only tap Space and consistently only get a tiny launch. Whereas a much shorter time holding Forward yet longer time holding Jump would give a stronger launch.

The extra Maxis adventures like "How a Bill Becomes a Law" are pretty good for getting 100 points on adventures that are known to work. There are some Sporecasts that have them all grouped!

That's a really interesting challenge run! I'm not as familiar with Galactic Adventures as I am with the base game so I'll write out what I think to understand and hopefully be corrected :) For this speedrun could we play any adventure we want with the goal just getting our Captain to level 10? Or do we have to make or download the adventures our self during the speedrun in order to be valid to play? I would think it would be ok to pre-download everything before the speedrun so internet download speeds and pre-Adventure loading times retrieving the rest of the creations don't have to count so the best interest speeds don't automatically win the speedrun, so the run can be more easily replayable, and we don't need to download everything again each run. And the loading screens for adventure themselves when the mouse is a spinning galaxy don't count for time either since those are loads in regular GA runs as well in order for different computers to compete against each other. So it looks like level 10 takes 4,375 points? Getting those points we could either: 1. Make 292, 15 point adventures that allow us to instantly win. The majority of the speedrun time would be affected by menuing. 2. Find the shortest 44, 100 point Adventures (these can include some of the 36 Maxis made, 100 point adventures) or find the shortest, most point runs the Sporepedia has to offer. I'm not familiar with the 15 point glitch. I thought new adventures only gave 10 points, maybe that's when they are still local and unpublished? And I've seen some online adventures only give 5 points haha. How many plays/votes would it take to inflate the points of an adventure? Would be awesome to have the 44, 100 point adventures all in one Sporecast be basically skippable, that would be most optimized. Let me know what you think of the strategy and how to handle downloading/in-game loading for this run! :D

@@KinglyValence i definitely agree that the required adventures should be pre-downloaded. in terms of what sort of run you’d like to do… well, i’m sure instant-win adventures don’t make for nearly as interesting of a video on their own, so it’d definitely be worth looking into what other adventures could be played to keep things engaging. there’s some real potential for torture-uh, i mean, engaging content-if you wanted to stick primarily to maxis-made adventures while still utilizing the same captain, especially if you took a ‘useless worm’ or ‘no-evolution’ take on the run. (which reminds me-similarly to your ‘cell stage without moving the mouse’ challenge, is it possible that a creature’s body shape could affect gameplay significantly enough for certain starter cells to be better captains than others?) i think accessing the captain outfitter should still be allowed, so long as the parts added are unlocked throughout the run. [always remember to add relevant tribal outfitter clothes-i know for a fact that the health boost is still present, but there may also be a minute difference in combat or social skills. i haven’t tested to make sure, yet…] local/non-published adventures do, in fact, only give 10 points each. that’s why i offered to publish the adventures and put together the sporecast: since i bought creature creator (as well as core spore + add-ons), i can publish new creatures and adventures, and anyone can benefit from it. originally, points granted by publishing adventures used to be weighed according to difficulty, which was tied to plays. however, since plays are no longer actually counted, newly published adventures remain at 15 points indefinitely (at least, to my knowledge). this is a double-edged sword in our case-on one hand, this means we can create as many instant-win adventures as we’d like without worrying about the points awarded going down over time. on the other hand, this also limits our pool of adventures that grant a greater amount of points to those published long ago, before plays stop being counted. as soon as i can get my computer set back up, i can start making and publishing adventures. but it might take a little while. it’s been a while since i’ve played, so i don’t quite remember the minimum required for publishing adventures… and i still want to experiment with optimizing file sizes. (what can i say? i want a fun project, too.) but i’ll be sure to keep you updated once i start making some headway!

@@sanctumsthird Oh that's really interesting that Tribal gear still counts in GA, I didn't know that, thanks! And good to know about how the adventure points work. That's good for the speedrun since it makes the run stable and won't change over time. I don't think the body shape impacts how the creature works like it does in Cell Stage, maybe for getting attacked a smaller creature would be better to have a small hitbox, but socializing/attacking abilities don't seem to care where they are on the body to work on other creatures, but I haven't tried looking for differences in body shapes for later Stages past Cell Stage in that way yet. Yeah let me know your Sporecast name when it's ready and I'll try it out! Maybe make like 10 insta-winable adventures and we'll be able to calculate how long the full run would be and see if that's more viable than a more points per adventure kind of route.

@@KinglyValence a couple centuries later, i'm back! i'm doing some experimenting with file sizes at the moment, and the results seem pretty straightforward. i didn't test every single planet individually, but through some trial and error, it looks like soft flats is going to be the best planet to work with. it's really interesting; even minute differences, like the position of the captain or the hazards flag, seem to have small effects on file size. but i didn't expect the planet's color to make such a notable difference! it looks like values closer to #000000 result in lower file sizes, so darker-colored planets are actually ideal. water, ground cover, plants, and such can also affect it. (i know none of that is really necessary for the run, but i wanted to share anyway, haha.) anyway! i just published ten identical adventures and put them in a sporecast here for easy access: www.spore.com/sporepedia#qry=usr-sanctumsThird%7C501104140504%3Assc-501109393572 im debating on whether or not i should try making nice-looking planets or if i should just do 292 of these ominous voids...

@@sanctumsthird That's awesome and really interesting! I got the Sporecast and gave it a try and gave it two runs to play all ten adventures. First run was 3m48sec and second was 3min42sec (better menuing as I figured it out) but they are pretty close! So looks like each adventure takes around 22-23 seconds for all the animations and menuing. The actual adventure loading screens were only about 1-2 seconds each (not included in the time since my timer pauses for loads) but good to know for full real time would take me up to 25 seconds including loads. So 292 adventures taking in real time 25 seconds each is just over 2 hours. Not actually that long haha. So next I think, knowing this strategy takes 2 hours, is to try to make a Sporecast with normal adventures that give more points per adventure to see if we can get the maximum points faster! If the loading screens/file sizes don't seem to be affect to much than maybe green grass planets could be nice? Could be better for a possible video presentation :)

I don't this it's possible, the Earth terrain isn't included in the home planet layouts that are selected for new games to play on. Would be cool if a mod made it work!

Is this premade world like an Adventure map file to use or like a Saved Game for the regular game from the menu? The adventure maps should be .PNG files that can just be dropped into the game to use. Saved Games like Cell Stage through Space Stage are tied to the galaxy file and are replaced in the Roaming folder in Windows.

@@duckl1y380 Are you trying to transfer a galaxy from one computer to another, or like a single saved Space Game from one galaxy to another, or maybe a custom terrain of one planet to another? The first one is easy, that takes the Spore folder from Window's Roaming folder and replacing it to another computer's Roaming folder.

@@duckl1y380 Ohh gotcha. I don't think it's possible to move individual saves between galaxies. All the saves are tied to the same galaxy which can be moved but all together.

Try moving or deleting the Spore folder from Roaming in Windows, search "%appdata%" and Spore will generate a new one. This holds all your saved games so those would be deleted but sometimes that can cause issues and might fix it. (If not make sure to keep a backup and place the original back in.) Or try using the 4GB RAM patch, found here davoonline.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=125&t=9424 can help crashes.

I feel like collision for the gate/other objects take an extra second or so to load in, especially from the editor and everything is popping in. I wasn't able to verify this but it does seem like getting past the gate is more common when trying to get past it quickly. My thinking that collision is loaded in differently from the visible objects is because if we fly up really high and fall back down, all the collision is unloaded and we can walk through walls. Your Tumblr is really cool! I learned a lot from it :D
