Olivia once said that George was "no panic" type person...he was always calm, always...no matter what. Here, if you watch carefully,you will see that John is completely shocked and lost in bewilderment, whereas George is somehow still calm..he was definitely shocked and sad but he was calm...he stepped in and answered all the questions... Ringo was actually standing next to him... George may had been the youngest Beatle and labeled the Quiet one but he was matured enough to handle a situation when it needed him..he was always protective of his mates...❤️
@rr7firefly

Yes, George had a calm center that came to the fore in difficult times. I know that he could be blunt sometimes (as in interviews with people like Dick Cavett) but my sense is that he looked at situations in life as passing clouds. Nothing to get stuck on.

This is very heartbreaking, they look so lost. It is crazy to think how young George was here, not even 25 years old. He always had this grounded and deep quality regardless of age, he was there for John at Stuart’s tragic death back in Hamburg too. These two’s bond is often overlooked but was very special and beautiful. Truly a beautiful, classy soul. R.I.P to all.

John's shock is also understandable when you remember that he lost his mother at a very young age, then his best friend, Stu Sutcliffe, right when the Beatles started their career, and now, completely by surprise, the man who allowed all their story to happen. That's a lot to carry. So difficult to watch…

Was just about to mention his Uncle George. This is hard to watch. That's pure shock. You can tell by the reaction here what Brian must have meant to him. He had a rough, cruel and unfair life did John Lennon. George is such a lovely bloke. I could listen to him all day. He's only 24 here too. They seem miles ahead of thier years One one of my walks, found Uncle George's grave in St Peters the other day. Not far away is a grave stone with the name Eleanor Rigby.

Every adult male figure seemed to die beginning when John was a child up to this point. John believed that he was some kind of jinx that's what he told Paul way before the passing of Brian Epstein. Here it looks like he's grieving he's also in shock and he could be thinking about that he could diffently be a jinx.
@RedBarchetta910
@RedBarchetta910 2 года назад
When John's mother died he could not look at her body. He buried his face in his Aunt Mimi's lap at the funeral and could not stop sobbing. Then, when his friend Stu Sutcliffe died, he could not stop crying for a week straight. His brain was likely affected from living in a constant state of emotional trauma as a child, likely leading to a textbook case of Borderline Personality Disorder. It is insane to think about all he accomplished in spite of this.

God...I'm not a big fan of John as a person, but it's awful to see him look so shocked and upset here. The question "Where would you be today without Mr. Epstein?" was an invitation to produce a nice little soundbite about how much Brian did for the band and what a great friend he was. For John - usually so quick with words - to simply say 'I don't know', and leave the 'quiet' Beatle to do all the talking, is heartbreaking.

How must that feel, to be on top of the world with your partners and best friends, in the greatest band on Earth on it's peak, when suddenly out of nowhere your mentor and good friend just dies. That would take the wind out of you for sure, I'm surprised they even took this interview so soon.

For obvious reasons, this is the most serious interview I’ve seen featuring John. No humor whatsoever. As everyone else has suggested, he’s either really shocked, on something, or a combination of both. I imagine it’s the former though. And as someone else pointed out, this REALLY COULD be pinned as the start of the breakup of the Beatles.

This is an opportunity to see more of the personalities of George and John. George had a real strength. I don’t think people realized how emotional & empathetic John was. His wit sort of makes it hard to see. But truly, sometimes the most sensitive & insecure or empathetic people wear humor as a mask. In ways, I’m angry to see people asking so many questions but George & John were nice about it.

You can clearly see the bewildered shock in John's face at 0:22. Brian Epstein was the "glue" that kept the Beatles together and when he died on August 27, 1967 that date was also the beginning of the end of the band. Of course they released a few more albums and stayed together for just under three years after Brian died but Brian knew how to keep the tensions and infighting down amongst the band and when he was no longer there it was like they began to lose direction and started to wander off on different paths. Yoko Ono became John's "security blanket" of sorts to help comfort him but her presence only served to exacerbate and hasten the Beatles breakup in my opinion.

The real John Lennon. Not the outspoken cocky smart arse that some people thought. Brian had become almost a father figure to these lads and was very protective of them, because it was more than money could ever buy, it was genuine love. George here, had really matured and was also very protective of John Lennon here, by handling the media. Without Brian, the Beatles would never be known, and John Lennon knew this, which is why he was completely shocked and stunned into silence.

Looks like it was really hitting John the moment he has being asked the questions. The part where George says 'there's no such thing as death on a spiritual level, and the comfort is to know is that he's ok..' is missing from this.

This would have been extra hard on John. John was probably the closest in the band to Epstein. They used to go on holidays together and were even once accused of being in a relationship. Throughout John's life he endured so much pain. His mother dying, his father leaving, his uncle dying, Epstein, his family complications and others.
