Helemaal mee eens. De muziek is ook mooi gekozen erbij. Melancholie ten top. Mensen zelf zijn weinig verandert eigenlijk he, in hoe ze eruit zien en zich kleden. 100 jaar is ook niet zoveel. Ze zullen het koud gehad hebben en misschien ook wel honger af en toe, maar ik denk, dat ze ook heel erg veel goeds hadden. Meer dan ze zich zouden beseffen destijds.
De wereld veranderd, harde waarheid. Leer het te accepteren of wees heel je leven bitter en depressief. Je gaat binnekort toch dood dus geniet er nou maar van.
@@MeatNinja Ik leef niet bitter en depressief maar het is wel een bitter feit als je na 18 jaar een keer terug bent daar waar je geboren en getogen bent en de mensen die je nog kent alleen maar in een neerwaartse spiraal hebt zien gaan dan geeft dat een negatief gevoel. Ik woon namelijk aan de andere kant van de wereld en dan ervaar je dat soort dingen anders.
@hij ......................Geboren in Amsterdam. Helaas is Amsterdam Amsterdam niet meer. Mokum is veranderd in Pyjong Yang aan de Amstel. Amsterdam is een afgrijselijke stad geworden. Blij dat ik er weg ben.
@hij ..................Ja ik kreeg uw reactie en zag dat hij ook alweer verwijderd was. Ik begrijp er ook niets van. RU-vid gaat steeds vreemder doen met het verwijderen. In uw reactie stond nu totaal NIETS wat voor een ander beledigend zou kunnen zijn. PS. Ik ben in de 70, dus "net " wat ouder dan u waarschijnlijk. Mijn stamboom is terug te herleiden tot begin 1600. Allemaal Amsterdammers. :-)
@hij ................Ik heb uw verwijderde reactie nogmaals gelezen en zie waarom hij door RU-vid verwijdert is. U mag het woord J..o d..e...n niet gebruiken. Een verbuiging van dat woord mag kennelijk wel. Ze zijn bij RU-vid lichtelijk gestoord geloof ik.
@hij ...................Zoals u kan zien is het woord dat ik gebruikte, maar dat ik van puntjes en spaties heb voorzien, NIET verwijderd. RU-vid gebruikt een computer om bepaalde woorden te verwijderen. Ze zijn daar helemaal doorgeslagen. Het woord van het "kamp " waar uw oud-oom "overleden" is, mag u ook niet meer gebruiken. Doe de volgende keer als ik. Gebruik puntjes en spaties. Dan kan iedereen het nog steeds lezen en wordt het niet verwijderd. Het klinkt belachelijk, maar het is een manier om toch uw reactie te kunnen schrijven.
Wat lleuk!! Het idee dat mijn overgrootmoeder en overgrootvader op dat moment ergens waren, maf man! En O die fietsen zijn er nog steeds maar dan met import Amsterdammers erop die door het rood rijden en overal schijt aan hebben.
Toen was de mensheid nog vele malen nuchter dan nu, maar wat ik nou echt ongelooflijk fantastisch vind is,dat het na zoveel jaren het nu eindelijk mogelijk is om zwart/wit beelden automatisch te laten inkleuren,’n jarenlange droom die werkelijkheid is geworden🙏👍
For people saying things were better, cleaner back then.. The canals were open sewers, large parts of the city were heavily decayed, and many people had to struggle to survive. Please Stop saying these delusional melancholic things. You might have become old, sour or had to move out of the city, I'm sorry. But that doesn't mean you have to annoy people with your negative nonsense. With that having said, beautiful footage of my beloved home town. Thanks a lot for uploading!
Don't you think it still is? I was there three years ago and really enjoyed it. Still a very old feel, untainted by massive tower blocks and skyscrapers.
@@nicklewis1882probably for tourists its a beautiful city. I live an hour away from Amsterdam, the thing is that its impoverished if you compare the video from then to now. Ofcourse. Everything is focused on tourism. Like serious everything. Sometimes I want to have a day shopping or eat or drink coffee in Amsterdam, but the overpopulation of people there holds back my pleasure being there. Its not relaxed being there in the summer or in the winter, my opinion. To much people. Those little things wich makes me not like Amsterdam
Tell about the music. First we’ve got the street organ. Then that clarinet then sweet violin sounds. It all sounds historically appropriate and really suits the films!

Ik ken mensen om me heen die het niet of wel dragen en beide zijn geen probleem. Een hoofddoek dragen is ook niet verplicht in de Islam. Het is goed als je gewoon behoeft hebt om je zelf wel of niet te bedekken. Wat is daar mis mee? Sommige vrouwen die geeneens moslim zijn houden bijv. ook niet van strakke kleren en niemand die daar raar naar opkijkt? De mensen die onderdrukt worden met hoofddoekjes die wonen waarschijnlijk in hele extreme landen, en extremisme heb je in elk geloof overal wel. Daarvoor hoef je niet te generaliseren. Ik zou eens even rondlopen op straat en vragen aan (jonge) vrouwen met hoofddoekjes of zij zich onderdrukt voelen. En kijk ook gelijk hoe vrij ze leven. Want ik weet niet in wat voor fantasiewereld jij leeft. De enige beperking die moslims in Nederland ondervinden is eigenlijk discriminatie op dit moment. Door mensen zoals jij.
I usually judge a place by how many women you see on the streets along with the men. The more women are out and about (and not hidden under a ton of clothing), the more peaceful is the place. So yes, Amsterdam was very peaceful. Of course, soon bad things would happen to Amsterdam...
@@charlesmartel8446 Yeah definitely not like today but it was quite a thing already in 1929, quite some Indians in Britain, lots of Suriname and Indonesians in The Netherlands. Then there were also lots of Europeans going to other countries in Europe, which also counts for the multiculturality. Amsterdam has been like that for quite a while and same goes for London. If you read some literature from back in those days you'll notice that it was not that strange to see more foreigners than expected.
Ha ha. I once saw a photo of a group of youngsters digging a ditch (or something) somewhere in America during the late 1800s, and one of the girls was a spitting image of Greta Thunberg. So either Greta looks much like girls did in the past, or else she is really a time traveller! 😄
Jazz werd in deze periode populair (onder de stadse bovenklasse, dat dan weer wel), dus buitenlandse muziek hadden we wel. En uiteindelijk is opera en klassieke muziek natuurlijk ook (vaak) buitenlandse muziek ... Nederland kende nauwelijks componisten.
By looking at these old videos, some parts i do recognize, but seeing the grachten this Empty is something i'd like to see in modern Amsterdam or in any Dutch city with Grachten canals.
The age before mass tourism, I'm originally from Bruges and the same happened to my city over the past decades. Only lockdowns during pandemics recreate that feeling nowadays :P
The main Grachtengordel is still not that busy with tourists in my experience. Probably because there are no coffeeshops, it's just the old, old part that's ruined.
1:10 the modern look of that font snapped me out of it. Then I remembered that most of what we still consider as 'modern,' and 'futuristic' even, were invented in those years, the 1910s and 1920s. I believe they even invented the very terms 'modern' and 'futuristic.' What have we gotten since that time? Ah dunno, uh... post-modernism? I never did the research, if I don't understand something new or why so many people like/use it, I just call it 'post modern.' Like mobile phones.
This is fascinating to see. I've lived here all my life and not a whole lot has changed. Sure, things are a bit more modern, there are more cars, but other than that it's not that different. What is funny is that DeOldify has made the water of the canals look blue, which is absolutely not the case :-D.

You clearly don't understand what colonization means. No people or countries in the world have a history of colonization like the Dutch. The Dutch people of foreign ethnicities of today, which you refer to, are mostly a result of that colonization.
Yes, I know what you mean. All the tech and social distancing (and I don't mean the covid shit) nowadays are not the things life is really about. It is about love, loving, social contact, living together with eachother, needing eachother, knowing eachother, eating honest food no junk, not living in some fake social media tech world thing... There was a lot more poverty, famine, less good health care, more inequality, plus a glooming world war back then.It's natural to feel some nostalgia watching this but this is such a naive worldview.

Ik weet niet of Willem-Alexander invloed heeft op de immigratiebeleid van de overheid... Voor de linkse partijen daarentegen is het van essentieel belang dat de inheemse bevolking zsm ethnisch gezuiverd worden door culturele "verrijking".
