I went to this Jardin Botanico about 8 years ago, and I really enjoyed it. I know it's Puerto Rico and you expect it to be hot, but I remember it being sooo hot that day. But the place was very enjoyable. One thing I especially remember liking was the food at the little "restaurant" that they had in the jibaro section. They were cooking jibaro style with lena, and I remember the food being especially good. The lady was cooking arroz con gandules, and I thought she was going to mess it up by cooking with the open flame. I thought it would be hard to regulate the temp, and the rice would not come out right. To my surprise, it was great. I can't remember what else we had to eat, but I do remember that I was surprised how good everything was.
Thanks for sharing that story! I didn’t talk about it in the video but the day we visited it was HOTTTT! We were wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and brought a lot of water. I almost couldn’t record because my phone constantly got overheated and stopped working. Despite the temperature, it is a beautiful place. Next time I might want to visit it in the morning and be as prepared or more prepared for the sun. When we went they didn’t have the person cooking near the casa jibara, but they were constructing/repairing something next to it so it might be that “restaurant”. 🙌🏼🇵🇷
@@BriksTravelGuides The food that we had that day was some of the best comida criolla that we had that trip. I guess if you know how to cook with lena in a fogon, it's not a handicap. I also recommend the golf cart guided tour. Our guide was a lady and was great, entertaining, and very informative. Hurricane Maria caused so much devastation that I thought about all these parks in PR, and how they might have been affected ---- Tibes, Caguana, Cabezas de San Juan, Jardin Botanico, La Marquesa. As far as I know La Marquesa is still closed, which is a shame, because it was a great park.
If someone enjoys The Jardin Botanico, they might also enjoy Parque Forestal La Marquesa in Guaybabo. It's a great park to visit, but unfortunately it's been closed since Maria. I recently looked it up, and was surprised to see that it was STILL closed. Made me wonder if it was ever opening back up again. Well I found this recent article that says that it's planned to reopen at the beginning of 2023! Great park worth checking out. They have an observation tower with a pretty big and shaded upper deck. The view is great, and the day I went there was a strong breeze up there that was so refreshing. My memories of La Marquesa were great limbers, decent restaurant/cafe, GREAT aviary, cool funicular (like a ski lift gondola) ride, and the great observation tower. If they could restore it to what it was, it definitely worth a visit.
Hey!! Thanks for recommending that! I never got to visit La Marquesa when it was open so I’ll definitely keep an eye our for when it opens back up in 2023! People seem to enjoy watching videos of the reopening of the many amazing attractions we have. Hopefully we can keep them all open and prosperous, and hopefully my videos help achieve that! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
Hey Brik, I hope all is well. I am planning to visit PR this next month. I will be staying most of the time in San Juan but I also wanna explore a few other towns such as Caguas and Ponce. I don't drive so I would be taking public transportation. I can't find information on public buses/transportation online how to get around the island. Will you be able to provide me some information if there's any buslines or bus companies that travels from San Juan to different areas? Would be much appreciated. Cheers!
Hey Davis!! In the metro area you can get around using Uber, taxis, and the electric (scooters in certain areas). You could also use the AMA which are the public busses, but they are unreliable so it might take you a lot more time to get to places. You could also try taking the Tren Urbano, which reaches all the way to Bayamon. Unfortunately, Ubers don’t operate all the way in Ponce or Caguas, so I’m not exactly sure how you’d get there. I would say maybe try finding a tour operator that can take you there. Maybe go to a hotel concierge and see if they can connect you to one. Hope that helps!
Hola! Como menciono Kellie, actualmente no estan pidiendo pruebas para entrar a PR, pero puedes confirmar en la pagina oficial de turismo en Puerto Rico: www.discoverpuertorico.com/info/travel-guidelines
Hey Angel! I agree, Puerto Rico is amazing! I talk about your second point on my video about Vieques. Go check it out. Thanks for leaving a comment! 😄🙌🏼🇵🇷
