Push the outer race of the bearing with a used broken bearing of the same size.
@reginaldscot165
@reginaldscot165 11 месяцев назад
If the bearings are broken or used they will have movement in the raceway, so as you apply pressure to the inner ring it will push on the inner ring of the hood bearing, but the outer won’t, because it has a small amount of movement or give in it.
@McGregis

That's what I did too. Just not ideal. I wish I found a drifter the same size as my 6902 bearing.
@Dawg4197

I have a similar kit like this that I use for linkage bearings and head tube bearings. I use the opposite side of the bearing spacers to extract smaller bearings and push on the outer race. There are no instructions with my kit, it was expensive, and not intuitive at all, but there have been a few times when I had to use a tool from another kit to match the bearing and place the piece in a vice. But using the reverse side of one of the included parts has worked, otherwise it would have been a huge waste of money.

for instalation if the bearing is retained on it inner diameter, as on a shaft, apply force to the inner race of the bearing. If the bearing is retained on the outer diameter, as inside a bore, force should only be applied to the outer race of the bearing. For removing the bearing you can do it either way if you don't reuse them.

You can order different size drifts from Wheels Manufacturing. It's too bad that there aren't more sizes in this kit. The really sad piece of this for me is that the bike industry doesn't have more standardized sizes, so one could feel safe with buying any kit and know that they have the sizing that they need regardless of what brand something might be. Thanks for sharing!

The large sleeve seems suited for older (shorter) 9speed freehubs, this looks as if it's for older qr hubs. I'd imagine they have another kit for thru axle hubs (with a larger screw) and a sleeve suitable for the longer 11sp freehub. Seems incredible that they don't have parts to press in new bearings, unless this is a 'removal only' kit.

Thank you for an informative video. I can see a number of ways they might improve the kit but more parts equals more cost, and as you say its functional mode is not ideal. The hub with the rattelly preload tube seems a bit iffy for actual preload.

For the bearing with the middle sticking out I would use a deep ratchet socket. For the missing part could you use a 14mm socket.

But I don’t think the Center of the socket would fit over the 17mm axle. (I have tried.) 😅
@ebikescrapper3925

What about this? 1. could you drill the square part out using a step drill and use a wide flat washer between socket and press. 2. A 3/4 inch socket (I think air guns might use this standard)) has a bigger square, 19mm.

If you only plan to work on your own bikes I'd just get the drifts you need rather than a full set, combine with some threaded rod and the fancy handle of your choice and Bob's your uncle. I know Hope sell a drift set for their hubs, I'm not sure about other brands? For suspension bearing removal/insertion I love RRPs drift kits, you just buy the kit for the bearing sizes you have on your bike. BTW, Hope hubs have an internal sleeve that makes bearing removal more complicated but they recommend, for their hubs at least, removing bearings with a pin punch. They even sell a special tool to hold the hub safely while you punch out the bearings.

@@reginaldscot165 I’ve got my eye on the Alt/Alt hub kit as well. The drifts are made from acetal to keep costs down, so maybe not the most durable for a bike shop, but good enough for the home mechanic. Yeah this kit has flaws, you really need to have over axle bearing adapter/ drift to push in bearing. I stumbled upon same problems buying this kit !!! In the end I was so frustrated not to find anything appropriate inside that kit that I wanted to buy lathe and make it myself 😠 I was looking for 6902 bearing over axle pusher. Nothing. What I ended up doing was to get old bearings to push in the new one. There is one catch though, you need lots of them over axle on hub side. Pressing on inner race is insane and a way to destroy your new expensive bearings. I'm still searching for solution. If someone finds anything appropriate please let me know.

Chinese are good at actually making stuff (producing, manufacturing), but not at designing. And here lies the problem. The kit is underdeveloped. For 80$ you are getting lots of tools, but making clip-on inserts to fix the issue of missing parts will set you back another $80 at machining shop, so this option is moot. At 160$ you'd find better kit for pressing the bearings in and out.
