I saw Slash at Disneyland once. I tried to nonchalantly give him a little wave to let him know I was a fan without intruding on his family day. He immediately came over to me and offered to take a pic with my family and I. Such an amazingly talented man who shows his appreciation to his fans!
Shannon Hoon appeared in the music video and did backing vocals on "Don't cry"... he was from Indiana, like Axl Rose. He would join alternative rockers Blind Melon and their 1992 debut album went 4x platinum (4 million copies sold) in the US, thanks to their hit - the ballad 'No rain'... Tragically, Shannon Hoon also had a heroin addiction and after recording Blind Melon's 2nd album 'Soup' in 1995, he was found dead of an OD. Blind Melon split up after his death.
A cocaine overdose took him in the back of their tour bus. He had tried cleaning up for his daughter who he was genuinely excited about. It's pretty tragic. The documentary which came out after his death, Letters from a Porcupine is pretty great. They are vastly underrated. Being from Indiana and a person who visits the Lafayette area often, it's easy to find fans, but once he passed their second album was abandoned by MTV. They already had Cobain. I only remember Galaxie getting played after he was gone, but Soup and Nico are both fabulous albums.
Shannon had a beautiful tenor tone. I wish he had sing more backing vocals to Gn'R. As far Duff, Izzy, or even Gilby and Dizzy are fine doing that, Shannon its another level!
I saw BM open for Pearl Jam in '93 and they are WAY WAY WAY underrated. Besides 'No Rain' (Gen X iconic song) also check out 'Tones of Home' and 'Galaxy'

Izzy Stradlin, who co-wrote this song, is the most underrated member of the band. He wrote or co-wrote most of their songs. He left the band before shooting the video, hence "Where's Izzy?" sign at 2:27.
indeed. I was lucky to see them play their final gig with Izzy at Wembley stadium just before they shot this video, great days. But for me that really was the last 'real' GnR performance
Slash, Duff & Izzy made a super group, but I never was a big Axel Rose Fan. Didn't Tracy Guns (The Guns in GnR) belong to the band before venturing out on his own (L.A. Guns)?
The 2nd version has better lyrics, IMO, and i like how the 3rd verse doesn't kick off until the 3rd line...it just hit me different. The blue UYI album, withbthat and Locomotive and 14 Years and Civi War and Yesterdays, etc, was the one that saw the most play for me

G N' R took us to a whole new level in the 80's...Axl has great range! I love them! Saw them live on the Use Your Illussion tour with Skid Row in 90...

I remember they didn't even turn out the lights in the stadium while Soundgarden was playing and everyone was just walking around not really paying attention to the band. 1 was 16 it was my first concert. It was pretty memorable.
It's cool Amber hasn't seen November Rain yet because "Don't Cry", "November Rain" and "Estranged" is a trilogy that goes together in that order. They are based on a book of short stories called "The Language of Fear". I actually have the 3 VHS tapes of them making the videos. RIP Shanon Hoon (Blind Melon) he was singing back-ups on the roof scenes. Him and Axl are both from Indiana. Awesome reaction guys.
"Don't Cry" peaked @ #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991. It was the 7th charting single from Guns N' Roses. Between 1988 into 1995, GNR charted 12 singles on the chart, 8 in the Top 40, 6 in the Top 10 including one @ #1, their 1st chart hit, "Sweet Child O' Mine" (2 weeks @#1/1988).

Did you catch the Where’s Izzy sign in the video. Izzy had just quit the band at the time. He cowrote this song and most of the better GnR tracks.they were not the same after Izzy left.
The brunette in this video is supermodel Stephanie Seymore. She was engaged to Axel at the time. She made it into a couple of videos but they never made it to the alter.

This is the first song written by the band and they left it off Appetite at the request of management. They recorded two different versions of it and It was part of the Use you Illusion records. Shannon Hoon (RIP) sang backup and is on the live version video.
What's crazy is that they played this song in their early days in the mid 80s at a small bar, before anyone knew who they were. And now we're in the early 20s and this song keeps reaching an audience.

I got to meet and talk to Shannon while in college when he came into Lowe's for fencing right before his daughter, Nico, was born. Gone too soon and a sure talent. He was also pretty kind to this star struck 20 year old. He came in a second time with his girlfriend and remembered my name. You guys should check him and Blind mrlon out on Mouthful of Cavities, St. Andrew's Fall, Skinned, Soup, Tones of Home. There are so many great songs. I stop by his grave now and again just to pay respects. He rests in his hometown of Dayton, close to my alma mater.
Fun fact: there are two different but very similar versions of this song, one from each Use Your Illusion album. The lyrics in the verses are different.

There were two sets of lyrics to this song- the other has a different melody, though the instrumental is the same. They were released on two different albums that were released simultaneously … “Use Your Illusion I” and “Use Your Illusjon II”
One of my favorite songs from my favorite trilogies. So good....November Rain is Next in the Trilogy...and it ends with Estranged. All power ballads...progressively more dramatic.

My uncle, Wes, did a cover on this song, he played all the instruments then put it together. Unfortunately, he had 2 strokes less than 24 hours apart, he survived, but he is not the same. Every time this song plays, I think of him.

Definitely do November Rain with Amber, and then as everyone else has suggested, do Estranged to finish the trilogy. Don't Cry is one of my favorite GNR songs, between Axl's voice and Slash's hauntingly beautiful guitar, this song never fails to give me chills. Amber is going to love November Rain, and y'all are going to love Estranged, they are both masterpieces of composition.
I love this song. Y'all should react to You Could Be Mine. It was used for the Terminator 2 soundtrack. The entire video is spliced with scenes from the movie.
November Rain actually comes after Don't Cry in the story so it is good you are doing this first but November Rain is a must. One of my all time fav songs. Then you should do Estranged. It is the last song in the ballad trilogy and the most epic song in the Guns N Roses catalogue. If you have not done Civil War then this is also a must. Rocket Queen, Nightrain, Mr Brownstone and Comma are also bangers.
Listen y’all, I would PAY to see Amber react to November Rain. Normally I’m not a fan of reactions if one or more of the people have heard/seen the song before, but this is an exception. She needs to experience it. And she actually would be watching in the correct order, since Don’t Cry is the first in the trilogy of connected videos. Next is November, and then you guys have to follow up with Estranged to finish out the storyline. Please make this happen!
I always got a kick of playing the alt versions at parties,watching people try to sing along “talk to me softly” turned into “if we could see tomorrow” on the alt version.
One of the "backup singers" is (was) Shannon Hoon, the lead singer of Blind Melon. He and Axel were neighbors and Shannon was close friends with Axel's little sister. RIP Shannon.... 😞😞😞😞😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Definitely revisit November Rain it is the type of song that you want to revisit time and time again and Amber now being a rock ballad love i am sure she will think it is awesome.

GNR is an awesome band. They have so much great stuff. I remember back in the day rockin' out to them when they were a new band. You should also check out Slash - You're a Lie ft. Myles Kennedy, The Conspirators.
Cool Reactions! 💜 We last seen GnR in concert, at Mile High Stadium, in 2017. They sold out the stadium with 62,554 fans in attendance. We will be seeing them in concert, next month, in Brazil.
I clearly remember going to pick up this album after school & the dude at the record shop wouldn't let me buy it because I was under 18. I then asked an "adult" if he would buy the album for me like it was a small c pack of beer. The other guy singing with Axl is Shannon Hoon from the band Blind Melissa m which sang No Rain with the girl in the bee costume. He later od'd and died. Very sad. There were two version of the song Don't Cry on Guns N Roses double album Use Your Illusion 1 & 2 each with different lyrics.
Yeah, you should do the 3... they are a set. It is a story told in 3 parts: Don't Cry, November Rain, and Estranged. Great guitar solos. Talking about great guitar solos, you should do some Megadeath, such as Tornado of souls, or Dread and the Fugitive Mind. And some Ozzy such as Mr Crowley, Crazy Train, No More Tears, Over the Mountain, or Bark at the Moon.
