A true testament to Bob Dylan’s extraordinary talent for song writing, his words resonate with every generation that followed. When interpreted by the biggest bands and artists they always sound relevant and timeless. I love Dylan’s voice and his brilliant phrasing and cadence, so almost always prefer his versions. Yet I could listen to covers of Dylan very happily as well. The GnR version was from my high school years so it conjures up great memories. My three favourite Dylan covers are All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix, My Back Pages by The Byrds and Blowing In The Wind by Peter Paul and Mary. And had to come back to add To Make You Feel My Love by Adele for something more current.

Duff never gets enough credit. I think his bass sound and style are what give GnR their sound. Without Duff there's no GnR! Listen to most of their songs especially their hits, Duffs bass is front and center every time!

Axl Rose is a classically trained musician and it shows in everything he does. Slash is one of the best rock guitarists ever, certainly top 3 from the 80s

Guns N' Roses' catalog of covers is deep. Since the earliest days, they've honored their rock 'n' roll heroes like Rolling Stones, Queen, Aerosmith, Paul McCartney`s Wings, both on record and in concert, and yes this song by Bob Dylan.

You need to listen to their entire debut album "Appetite for Destruction". There isn't a bad song on that album.

It was due to Guns n Roses that I started to listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers, they always quoted Southern Rock as a major influence. Another vote for Patience as the next of their songs you should check out.

GnR’s first album blew up out of the gate and they went from opening act to headliner almost instantly. Bass=Duff McKagan, who is the man keeping that rhythm in the pocket. The “dun nunt” pausing “dun nunt “ you liked so much was the bassist followed by a run of bass notes. Relisten for the bass and Duff will blow your mind. After the 80s of being ripped off of his royalties by the record companies, Duff went back to school and took finance courses so he wouldn’t be taken advantage of again when he helped form Velvet Revolver. Steven Adler is the drummer and the one Sabastian Bach wrote and sang about in the Skid Row song Wasted Time because Steven was so hooked on heroin. Izzy Stradlin is the rhythm guitarist and the first to leave the band on his own after Steven was fired and replaced by Matt Sorum, formerly of The Cult. You know Slash and Axel. Axel has one of the broadest ranges in his voice in all of rock. It’s why they tune their instruments down a 1/2 step to flats (Eb-Ab-Db-Gb). Songs to react to are anything from Appetite for Destruction. Others are Civil War, You Could Be Mine, Locomotive, November Rain, Don’t Cry, Pretty Tied Up, Reckless Life, Nice Boys, Mama Kin, etc…

By the time you get to the Chinese Democracy album, the lineup changes are crazy and all over the place. It's a mess.

November Rain is another great song by these guys if you haven’t already done it. Axl Rose is doing the vocals, even those low twisted ones, and Slash is on guitar. So good.

There have been a lot of great covers of this Bob Dylan classic song. I've always loved Eric Clapton's version of this song with a reggae beat.

Guns N' Roses covered this on their 1991 album, Use Your Illusion II. They played it in 1992 at a tribute concert for Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen, who had died of AIDS. 72,000 people attended the concert, which was held in London's Wembley Stadium. In case you're wondering, towards the end of the end of this version, the man on the telephone says, "You just better start sniffin your own rank subjugation Jack, 'cause it's just you and your tattered libido, the bank and the mortician, forever man and it wouldn't be luck if you could get out of life alive."

The deep voice is still Axel Rose. There are parts of the song where the vocals are double and triple tracked to layer his voice on top of itself several times in different notes to create a chordal harmony, or line.

This is a Bob Dylan song, I wish you had heard the original first. Check out the song You Could Be Mine, it is one of their most aggressive songs and reminds me of Motley Crue's Kickstart My Heart.

Another good GnR song to check out is "Civil War" it was off of one of their Use Your Illuson albums (they realsed 2 seperate albums at the same time and simply titled them Use Your Illusion 1 & 2) I was partial to "Mr. Brownstone" off of their first album, and "Patience" was a good, predominantly acoustic song off of their GnR Lies Lies Lies album

When GnR were on top they were HUGE, pretty much dwarfed those other bands you listed except for Led Zeppelin. Im pretty sure they still have the highest selling debut album in the US with Appetite for Destruction.

This song was from their 'Use Your Illusion II' album. They were at the height of their success in 92 touring the world and topping the charts. And then they broke up. Axl, Slash, and Duff did reunite in 2016 for a reunion tour.

Several years ago I was driving through Arizona, listening to a local rock station morning show. It was one of those crazy morning zoo comedy shows, and they had slash on to interview. They thought it would be really funny to have slash play knocking on heavens door with a guy that plays the accordion, problem was there was nothing funny about it because it sounded amazing.

Guns N Roses are their own genre. There was nothing like them before and nothing since. Def some imitators out there but nothing compares. And that's why they still have the BEST SELLING DEBUT ALBUM from a band ever!!! Appetite for Destruction debuted selling 18 million copies, 7 hit singles, 3 #1 singles, 147 weeks on the Billboard top 200 charts, 4 consecutive weeks at #1, 30 million sold around the world. I don't think it'll ever be beat as a debut album from a band.

Guns and Roses later teamed up with Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots to form Velvet Revolver. Slither and Fall to pieces are worth a watch.

GnR has such an amazing sound. "Patience" and "Welcome to the Jungle" are two that you will definitely love, and are on opposite ends of the spectrum of what GnR does. Also, would recommend that Jay introduce Amber to "November Rain" since she wasn't on the channel yet when you reacted to that song. A few years ago I want to say it was 2015 I stood next to Duff McKagan the bass player for Guns N Roses at a University of Washington football practice. He's a really big Husky fan and quite knowledgable when it comes to football as well. We stood next to each other for allmost two hours and talked nothing but football and in fact I don't think I ever mentioned his music. It just was not why we were there. Anyway he's a great guy, yes he's clean and sober these days as well.

To truly appreciate this version, you need to see the GNR Live version of this song. They throw a change up in the song that is one of those "did that just happen" moments in a song.

Izzy Stradin is the voice you hear. He plays Rhythm guitar and doesn't get enough credit. Overshadowed by Axl and Slash. If you're gonna be overshadowed, I guess that's a pretty good tandem to be overshadowed by, but he is very talented. Guns and Roses was the last great Rock Band in my opinion. There has been good ones since then but they belong with the greats.
