The Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail is a renowned hiking trail situated along the southeastern coast of Oahu, Hawaii. It offers visitors a scenic and enjoyable trek with breathtaking coastal views.
Throughout the hike, hikers are treated to stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean, surrounding cliffs, and offshore islands. On clear days, the neighboring islands of Molokai and Lanai can be seen in the distance.
As hikers reach the summit, they are greeted by the iconic Makapu'u Lighthouse. The lighthouse, built in 1909, stands tall at 46 feet (14 meters) and serves as a navigational aid for ships passing through the Kaiwi Channel. While the lighthouse itself is not open to the public, visitors can still appreciate its historical significance and take in the panoramic views from the lookout point.
The Makapu'u Lighthouse Trail is approximately 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) round trip and is completely paved, offering a moderate hike that can be completed in around 1-2 hours, depending on the pace.
