Hi everyone and thanks for your patience whilst I had a little time away from RU-vid!
Just a short video today, but check out this drop-dead gorgeous Kenwood DP-1100SG CD player I repaired recently, one of the all-time great CD players.
My Customer purchased this CD player new, back in the day, and it simply stopped working. It wouldn't read the table of contents on any disc I tried and the display was also out.
As always, please excuse the minimal editing etc, it's the only way I can get videos out these days due to workload issues.

That is one well cared for old Kenwood; just some TLC to bring it back up where its supposed to function. Thanks for your time showcasing this unit; I'm going to keep an eye out for a nice one.

I found an Kenwood DP-990SG CD player in the bulky waste. I took it home and tried it out right away. Unfortunately the drawer didn't open. I opened the player and changed the drive belt for the drawer by using a service manual. In addition, the last owner had bent open the holder for the CD. It just has to bend down again. ever since, this incredible player has been playing like the first day and looking like a display piece.

Great work Mike, educating the public on the quality of older audio gear. Today's gear are built cheaply and flimsily to a strict parts budget, with some exceptions, however, one is paying thousands if not tens of thousands for those well built modern equivalents.

Well done Sir. Was not aware of this CD Player, 2 transformers and all that metal (no plastic). Will keep my eyes open for 1 of these.

Got a hold of 880SG and display works, mechanism works, but when I load in a CD it just doesnt read it and displays a "no disk" icon after a couple of seconds. Haven't opened it yet but I hope it is something relatively simple, maybe dirty reader or something

Two transformers, is that one for the digital section, and other for the analogue section?

Correct, a really nice way to do things and common on better players, even these days.

Is there any voltage switching available for this model?
@thevintagehifiambassador8524
Hello. Does it play less dynamic but more warm and more refined for classical music than my Philips CD 880 or Rotel RCD 971? Or how would you put it between my CDP's ? Thanks.

The simple answer is you need to hear one and find out how it compares for you. Worth also thinking about what your goal here is though in terms of a better player, different player, etc.
@thevintagehifiambassador8524
not essy, my goal is fast, uncomplicated, lots of CD interchanges, long listening, no fatiguing, lots of details but no need for the maximum, cosy listening with a player which does not fail.

“No display” is nothing, no light and no digits on it when it’s broken? If so, is it dry joints issue? Thanks!

In most cases like this the unit should visit a specialist repairer for an accurate diagnosis and repair. Every case is unique and I would need to inspect and test your unit to diagnose the issue/s and determine the work needed to rectify them.
