In this video I restore a beautiful vintage dresser that was painted white. I strip down the layers of paint and expose solid mahogany wood. I also find a surprising way to preserve the stick figure drawing ;-)

the way the original knobs were used as screws for the replacement hardware at the start is actually genius, I'm going to do that whenever I switch out knobs from now on

Efficient method of catching stripper debris. Nice art preservation, too. Overjoyed to see your respirator mask. Final result is stunning. Not sure about drawer pulls but if the dresser could talk, it would thank you for your precision, epic sanding and tasteful oil/stain application not only on the outside but also inside the drawers. Hi Jay, I thought I’d watched every video you’ve made so far, and then this one popped up! And, as usual, I was gobsmacked at the amazing transformation, from kiddie’s cupboard to mahogany dresser! Just gorgeous! And I was thinking, wouldn’t it be wonderful for the person who drew that stick figure drawing to get the dresser back again! Then it would have gone (almost) full circle! You can do wonders. It’s a beautiful dresser n I love the Walnut wood too. I admire how precise you are with each piece you work on. Im so pleased that you didn’t stain it or painted like some flippers do. You always find a way to making it better. Wondering, are you keeping for yourself or try to sell it? As for me I’d keep it. Oh my goodness ya caught me by surprise by saving and engraving the child’s art drawing on the back. How special and sweet. What a beautiful dresser. Looks like a miniature highboy. You make me laugh out loud when you say you took a break and went to have a cry lol. If I did that much sanding I’d cry too. Hello, lovely. The piece is sublime! I LOVE the natural colour of the mahogany and the simple yet beautifully decorative knobs. It is definitely necessary and sensible to take time out for a good cry when sanding. It means your doing it right (the sanding). Another way of coping with sanding is doing it when thoroughly intoxicated. It still sucks, but you just don't care. And I don't drink! That's how much sanding can ruin lives, you know I also love that you retained the art by copying to a safe place.

While you were working with this dresser I found myself admiring how well it was constructed and I could see that the wood is of an excellent grade. When you finally confirmed that it is mahogany I found myself nodding in agreement. As usual excellent work. I suspect that the creature you were referring to is one which Dr Zeus would really approve of. Imagination at its finest.

I hate seeing and working on pieces that have been painted. Why ruin a beautiful wood piece with paint. I'd rather deal with peeling veneers or broken ones than spend hours scraping paint out of joints. I once stripped a mahogany sleigh bed of layers of paint. Some idiot thought doing a faux antique look was great. Not me. At the time I didn't have dental picks so had to use a small nail I sharpened as a substitute to remove paint from intricate carvings.
