I still find it awesome how she got this role, and then wanted to audition for the role of Megara in Disney's animated Hercules. It's to my understanding that she wasn't actually allowed to audition for Hercules because the creative team didn't believe she was right for the role. In one of her interviews, she said that she basically kept annoying them until they let her audition, and she ended up getting the part.
Anne Chung in one of the early drafts for the film, It was gonna be based off the musical and use the songs, but when Bill Condon took over as director, he made it fully changed to be based off the animated film, soon Disney asked Alan to write new music instead of using the Broadway music so they could keep it separate. Though when Gulimero del toro was going to direct, he was going to remove all musical elements and make it darker, but he abandoned the project to make his own film. (a reason I heard was that he didn't feel like touching the animated film for how great it was though I'm not completely sure)
I ain't even Bovvered tho well, at the time before it was announced, all over the internet was "Cast Emma Watson as Belle! " "she'd make a perfect belle" which I agreed because she had the looks and all, soon she announced she was casted as Belle which was ironic. The problem with her Belle in my opinion was the auto tune, Disney gave her 3 months to practice singing when she has not taken singing lessons before, so Disney rushed her and that was the final outcome.
aj pennington if she can't sing, she shouldn't be in a musical. End of. The fact that the Internet just handed her the role just goes to show that it's all a bunch of idiots. Samantha Barks would've been better by leaps and bounds.
Man she is so beautiful and a beautiful singing voice. I'm still amazed we are see the woman who played Meg in Hercules. But that movie was made after Beauty and the Beast. I home to find a wife who likes stuff like this.

Same with the Meg voice. I grew up with her singing "I Won't Say I'm In Love" in Hercules, it's weird hearing her sing Belle! But she sounds beautiful anyway.
I watched hercules way before seeing Susan Egan as Belle.. no wonder I am not a fan of her as Belle as everyone else is, I couldn't stand Meg (not because of Egan but because of the way she was written/animated). Hilary Maiberger embodies her more in my opinion.

Do you happen to have the final battle with Gaston as well? And the Beast transformation with Terrence mann and susan ? I've been looking everywhere for it :) . i'm just so in love with that show and the costumes my god that is real theatre!!
I think Susan sounds better as meg I guess it's because I've watched Hercules too many times and I've never seen the musical in person but yeah all I hear is meg but I really do love her voice
It would mean the world to me if I could see this whole play... That is if you have the whole thing. But if not thats fine I understand. You did after all say not to ask.. LOL But maybe out of the goodness of your heart? For a young girl who has a love for Broadway musicals? :)
Actually, this is the permanent version of the song. The original cast album was recorded either during or before previews began. So therefore, several modifications were made to some of the numbers after that.
