My favorite bit of trivia from this movie is that the three blonde girls dressed as a traffic light are canonically called The Bimbettes

The only animated movie ever to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. And then they created a “best animation” category, so this is the only film that will ever have that honor.

Actually there’s been two other animated movies that have been nominated for Best Picture after BATB - Up was nominated in that category for the 2009 season and then the following year Toy Story 3 was nominated for Best Picture for the 2010 season 🥰

The scene where the Beast turns back into a human is gorgeous. It always makes me emotional. The music and the visuals...the animators said they modeled it on Michelangelo.

I've watched this movie about a thousand times, and the bit that still gets me teary eyed is in the credits, the dedication to Howard Ashman "who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul"

If you look closely, Belle and the Beast are the only characters who wear the color blue, subtly showing us that they belong together. In the beginning the Beast as well as Gaston are both wearing red but as the Beast changes he goes from red to purple and then blue by the ballroom scene. Nice bit if color psychology on Disney’s part. This movie for me is right up there with The Lion King.

Probably the best reimagining of a fairy tale there is. People like to nitpick this like it's real life. They also want everything explained. Enchanted which means not everything is as it seems. Everything about this movie is perfection. 😊

The asylum keeper with the amazing voice is the voice of Judge Claude Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame, in my opinion the best Disney villain, and yes, his singing voice is even creepier! Edit: I wrote this before you mentioned you'd seen it before, though I disagree about the music in this being better. It's amazing and both are Alan Menken but overall ibprefer Hunchback.

This was my first theater experience too! My mom not only took me to see it in 91 when I was five years old, but she's also a huge Celine Dion fan so I grew up always hearing her cover of the titular Beauty and the Beast song on repeat. That's why it thrilled me to be able to surprise my mom by being the one to take HER to see the live action remake on opening night 26 years later after she first took me.

They dont explicitly say so, but the background is that Prince Adam was around 11-13 when he was cursed. The surrounding community was cursed to forget he was their prince, and the forest overgrew when no one traveled there for almost a decade. He probably lost his parents young and was never told no, so pretty standard lonely, rich brat behavior, really.

Okay, I was 11 when this came out, but I was already a huge fan of the story because of a TV series of a modern telling of the story. Ron Perlman played Beast and hid in the sewers while the modern-day version of Belle was a detective. It was late 80s/ early 90s gold! Look it up when you get the chance ❤

My favorite Disney princess movie of them all. I love the story, the animation and the music. My favorite song, I would have to say is a tie between "Be Our Guest", "Human Again", "Something There", and "Beauty And The Beast". Also, Beast is technically what's known as a chimera in Greek mythology. He's got different animal features mixed into one character: The head and horns of a bison, the brow of a gorilla, the tusks of a wild boar, the body and front legs of a bear, and the hind legs and tail of a wolf.
@DisneyFan16672
@DisneyFan16672 11 месяцев назад
Great reaction! "Beauty and the Beast" is one of those "lightning in a bottle" movies where the best possible creative team and artists came together to create something truly special. It throws back to classic Disney fairy tales but throws in a few twists. The handsome man everyone views as the town hero is the ultimate villain, while the hideous beast has a heart of gold who proves he not only wants love but is deserving of that love in return. I could go on and on about the soundtrack, the animation, the characters, and the story which are executed to perfection. If you enjoyed this, I highly recommend the live action remake as it expands the story with additional songs, moments, and backstory that gives further background to these characters. Great reaction and glad you enjoyed it! :)

For me one of the best movies of the Disney renaissance along with the Lion King...Well, it is a very interesting and beautiful love story. The reason people initially thought Belle was weird was because she read the movie is set in the 1700s in France in a small provincial town ,and there we can see people following an aligned and normative lifestyle to what is a small town at that time so if someone was different from that lifestyle or norm they were seen as strange or odd.. At the beginning of the movie we can see that Belle is an intellectual Beautiful young girl who knows to read and is very compassionate, gentle and kind the townspeople think that she is a bit strange since she goes beyond the social norms of what a woman would be expected to be in those times, especially from a small Provincial town, ("We can see how the townspeople say she's nothing like the rest of us she's different from the rest of us") alluding to what i just said that's why belle sings about of her life in the town and that she wants to find and live another experience beyond the town. She knows that people talk and make assumptions about her personality, but she is not indifferent to it. and rather she copes with it very differently than the rest of the Disney princesses where the tradition of the princess in trouble who needs to be rescued is broken. Although we saw that at the beginning with Ariel in the little mermaid where they made a different approach to her character where she still has the qualities of the other older princesses but also of the current ones. This movie came out in 1992. which her character was already quite ahead of her time .

The Beast, by the time we come into the story, has been a beast for 10 years (which means that when he met the enchantress, he was only 11). They tell you in the lyrics to "Be Our Guest"--"It's been 10 years since we've had anybody here AND WE'RE OBSSESSED!" Edit: got to the point in the reaction that you deduced that yourself. Yes you are correct!

Actually, I disagree with this assessment. While he had been a beast for ten years... the rose would not wilt until his 21st year. Now if you take in account that he was 16, ten years would have been 26 when Belle broke the spell. The Rose had begun to wilt, but we aren't given a specific rate of decay. But if you take in account that a rose has upwards to 60 petals, things start to make much more sense this way. Especially taking in the account of Maurice's leaving of the faire, and the passage of time between his leaving, Phillipe returning, and her finding him, then the time spent with the Beast.... that's the part that's tricky and trips people up.

A lot of people hate on the live action version with Emma Watson mainly because of her yellow dress but I don’t think people realize that dresses like that in person are very heavy. Not only are they big dresses, but when you start adding the jewels to them especially if they’re real jewels…..the dress is gonna be heavy and not practical to move and dance in. Emma was aware of that and sacrificed looking extravagant for being comfortable. Some people hated it, I personally loved it because she looked beautiful and I understand why she made that choice.
@benarts2271
@benarts2271 4 месяца назад
I can understand it being heavy for a character like Belle. But at least an homage of Christine’s ball gown from the movie version of “Phantom of the Opera” would’ve been nice. With fabricated roses or something. The silhouette I feel like would’ve been okay with Watson if she’s more compassionate with the costumes and the history behind them based on the fairy tale’s time period (1700s French).

I LOVED that film when I was a kid for the same reason your wife did (does) - bookworm. My nan read the book to me as well and I had the cassette (sic!) She's different because this takes plays in a time when hardly anyone was able to read, definitely not your average townfolk and absolutely no women. The live action film expands on that a little more. I actually DID like the live action film, even though I was expected to be majorly disappointed, but as someone who knows this film so inside out that it annoyed my parents bc I played it for months on end, it was incredibly true to the original. And like the Lion King, the visuals on this, especially considering the year? absolutely incredible!

It said to be an old fairy tale from France this story. Disney films are built on fairy tales and books so maybe get the books and read as Belle does is a good advice. Many other big films is built on books written with blood, sweat and tears.
